Re: [LU] 10 wins: we are staying up
It is amazing how some of these players have stepped up. Yes they make mistakes but Ayling, Dallas, Cooper (and even Alioski to a degree for me) have been absolutely fine (despite how much I swear at them during games.) Alioski I think has really improved. He seems calmer, looks backwards rather than just forwards all the time (so knows when to slow it down when necessary), and has put in some great crosses. Yes his weakness is one-on-one defending but it really is not his position. I hope we sign him again. Re: [LU] 10 wins: we are staying up
Agreed Tim - we don’t need to be in Europe yet, and really it’s just media commentators talking about it for the sake of something to say. It must be the case that some of our first team squad will leave this summer - Alioski appears Galatasaray bound, Tyler Roberts needs a move, I hope to God Costa goes, even though we’ll take a hit on the transfer fee, I don’t see Pablo playing a roll either. I’m sure Bielsa would love to promote Greenwood and Geldhardt (sp?) up front, but we really need a class forward/attacking midfielder. I suppose depending on Koch and Llorente’s recovering, we might still need another centre back. Anyway, why I started wittering was that we haven’t got a strong enough squad for a Euro challenge yet, plus our players deserve, and probably need, a rest. I think Wolves are a good lesson to heed. Of course if we keep winning any opinion will be irrelevant ;-) > On 9 Feb 2021, at 12:44, t...@3lv.uk wrote: > > Is that the Covid break that, without which, we probably wouldn't have got > promoted!! I do think this is a worry. I don’t think Kalvin would leave as long as he’s in the England team, unless we went down. And surely Raph didn’t expect to sign for us and be playing in Europe next season - but if a Champion’s League club comes along with Champion’s League money...? Ed. Re: [LU] 10 wins: we are staying up
As I see it we have 2 challenges 1. Staying Up - that job has nearly been achieved 2. Hanging on to Raphinha. Would we refuse a £50 million or so bid? He is beginning to look like a superstar in the making Another thoroughly, in the main, professional performance. Some truly astonishing misses from Bamford and Struijk made it much tighter than Palace deserved, some very leggy passing from Ayling, and a pitch that is having far too much influence were the negatives, but far, far outweighed by the positives of a superb team performance, players doing their job (Eze pretty much redundant as Dallas, and others, got up close and personal), our attacking passing, with Raphinha outstanding. Oh, and 3 more points, mean we make the top half of the table. Bamford’s post match Sky interview was very open, articulate and funny too - Whether his ‘slip of the tongue’ about being amazed a bigger club hadn’t taken a punt on Raphinha, before correcting himself by saying ‘a more established Prem team’, will get him into bother who knows?
