Re: [LU] 2nd half

2023-12-30 Thread John Lee via Leedslist
I suppose as fans of 50 years +, we’ve seen it all before, and like Simon says,
I think we’ve seen this set-up very recently! Obviously it was a relief to have
some defensive organisation and not being gubbed by 4 or more every week, but
the ultra cautious build ups and not using our key strengths, i.e. fast
forwards who need the ball early, it isn’t that surprising teams have sussed
out how to beat us, and why fan discontent is on the rise. Farke has done a
pretty good job so far, but if he cannot/ will not vary our build-up play, or
buy someone who can, then this is only going one way.

Imho, he really must play Gray in the middle - our problems arn’t with the
actual players in attack/defence, but not having a McGinn type midfielder.

Finally, there are players who keep getting a game who provide nothing - Gnonto
is one!

Hopefully our Xmas form will have benefits, because Farke must see plan A isn’t
the be all and end all! And hey, let’s end on a positive - I think we’re too
good to go down :-)

Agree on Bamford away as the better option. Gets way too much stick for
being offside by know nowts, but the reality is he’s making smart runs and
the midfield are playing it too late. As you said, it’s because they never
practice anything other than plan a in training.

Re: [LU] 2nd half

2023-12-30 Thread Richard Walker via Leedslist
Might be a bit premature given the Ipswich result but it’s beginning to feel a
bit like the end of Bielsa in that teams seem to know how to play against
Farke’s slow, predictable 159 passes build up play by putting men behind the
ball and making sure there’s no room to play and then they know they’ll get a
chance from a set piece or counter and win the game.
Hopefully we’ll stuff Brum and Farke will somehow change his tactics for away
games.
Darkow - 5. Strangely had nothing to do but what he did was poor.
Spence - 5. Disappointed at his best position but a lot of that might have been
down to Gnonto who really didn’t help going forwards
Byram- 5. Did ok first half , unlucky with the goal
Rodon- 7. Battled hard
Cooper - 6. Thought he did ok
Gruev - 5. It was his best showing for us and he saw a lot of the ball but he
is just a ball pusher and not a creator.
Ampadu - 6. Worked hard but doesn’t have the creativity
Gnonto - 4. Should have had a pen but apart from that he looked rusty. Needs
more game time but probably won’t get it after this.
Summerville- 5. Trying hard but it’s difficult to receive the ball and beat the
5 men that are lined up in front of you.
Rutter - 6. Ditto but did have some success. Should have scored first half. Not
a no 9
Piroe - 2. Totally ineffective as our no 10
Subs:James - 7. Made an impact
Bamford - 5 BUT for me he shows there is another option by playing over the top
and running on to balls. It’s obvious though that Farke isn’t practicing this
in training though cos we can’t do it at the moment but for me it’s Bamford in
at no 9 in the New Year.

Hope the radio Leeds folks ask Farke some proper questions.

We lost all pretence of shape after all the attacking subs and to be honest I’m
as likely to score from the sofa as Bamford was on the pitch.

With the quality of players we have at our disposal that was simply
unacceptable, as was Preston and Sunderland.

Piroe as a 10 might work at home but in these away games we look short in
midfield.
I’d like to see a midfield trio of Ampadu, Kamara and Gray / Gruev. With the

I don’t think 4th is good enough for the squad we have and we need to figure
