With the £40-£50m on offer for a year in the EPL and the parachute payments would postponing make much difference? It would seem to be more of a budget to tread water at the moment build hotels that mean new income then go for it in the future. Great way to run a business but not a football club. I've been brooding over the match, the result, the performance since watching it on Saturday. First observation: a newly-promoted side should not have outclassed us to such an extent - we may not have spent much money on the side, but we did finish 7th last year. Secondly, a question: how / why can almost all members of a team play with such little enthusiasm for 90 minutes? I think the result reflected the balance of play - in midfield we were totally overrun, there was no creativity, no closing down, and precious little skill on offer. Frankly, it looked more like we were the side who had just come up and got soundly thrashed by an established Championship side. Has Larry lost the dressing room? As regards cruicial points, yes we should have had a penalty earlier on - a blatant trip on Max. Apart from that, Paynter's appalling miss was about the only other chance we had in the whole game. btw, i HEREBY CONFESS to having joined Twitter for the express purpose of catching the #twitterwhites comments during the game, which were on the whole numerous and all despairing. I have questioned the value of it before but after this match (and other things I've spotted) I think I will have to quickly revise my initial huge skepticism of the medium. I'm sure it'll be a much more valuable way to keep track of non-televised matches from those at the ground of course rather than the white noise of euphoria or doom like last Saturday. Nothing new to add on the game from my armchair viewing, but we did lose the 1st game last year to a team that was nearly relegated in the end, and we do have 3 home games coming up. O'Dea was horrible. I haven't seen anyone deal with crosses that poorly since Jesus. When he couldn't kick a dead ball, unopposed, from a free kick into the box...well, that's just poor execution and lack of ability. I'd expect player at the U13 age to be able to deliver a free kick taken in the oppositions half into their box for team mates to attack. And that's not even mentioning that he was equally as poor passing a ball that was moving. O'Dea makes Ian Harte look like he has the silky sweet skills of Messi. Perhaps there's a reason Celtic don't keep O'Dea and that all his loans haven't turned into permanent deals? I thought Connolly was ok too. he played a couple of decent balls out of defence that actually found their man and could have led to something. With Brown hacking at everything O’Brian watching the game like a spectator they didn’t really need to attack down the wings. In the very first minutes MidgetBoy aka Ross M. almost managed to control a pass that put him through to a 1 on 1 against keeper. However being a MidgetBoy he couldnt reach the ball Secondly Howson got a very good shot on ball in around 6th minute. He should probably have scored there. Soton scored first goal in 9th minute ish and the rest is history. So there you go, stuff dreams are made of. And Paynter can't score when he does get the ball! I think that 4-5-1 was forced on us because of the injuries the Becchio and Sommma. Going 4-4-2 would have meant that Paynter had to start. 4-5-1 seems all the rage these days with wingers playing so they can cut inside onto their stronger foot (think how many goeals Gradel scored doing this last season).
