Re: [LU] Liverpool.. maybe my last words here

2014-04-19 Thread Andy Pyzer
Regardless of opinions and we all have them, for me Liverpool have been the
best team this year and deserve to win the League as the best footballing team
and I hope they do and I hope Everton get into top 4 too.

When I moved to Liverpool in 1971 at age 5 from Scotland and chose an English
team it was obviously Leeds because we were the best and had some Scottish
players obviously and my mate Kevin supported them and Liverpool were not
destined to be huge for 20 years were they? I stayed Leeds loyal all these
years because I am a stubborn twat.. a similar trait with several here although
you may have been born in Leeds so have no choice... I have lived in the Middle
East for the last 22 years... FYI.

There was a recent BBC thread on Leeds on what happened from an author who
pointed out that all Leeds fans do is moan, why us, why this why that etc. What
has happened to Leeds United? Part of my joy of this list is the eternal
pessimism whether we win lose or draw, it somehow makes my life better to know
the pain we all go through week in week out. but we get through it.

It is an obvious difficult issue when people are killed at any ground for any
team or any fan and yes I agree I have many scouser friends who are now
constantly giving me the Hillsborough 96 blah blah, but the fact is it happened
and no matter how you want to paint it people died right or wrong. Turkey scum,
Arsenal scum, Liverpool scum... seriously guys? seriously? people died.

I thought we were football fans? Anfield is one of the only grounds I have ever
gone to where the fans stand up and actually applaud a team who beat them, they
are fans like us who recognise skills and ability and talent and support their
team winning or losing. Fuck me we won the league since they last did

I lost a mate at Hillsborough, a school friend who in fairness I had not seen
for many years but nevertheless he is gone. we all have a laugh here but
sometimes just sometimes maybe we should think about our comments and that
includes me.

Leeds has had a tough time, my mate Rick took over Radio Yorkshire in November
and asked me to run the sports section for footy and rugby league, he meets and
met Ken Bates on many occasions and I was in Leeds less than two months ago,
fuck me I have some stories but it would compromise him and he is my mate,
maybe one time I will tell you some stories.. not now. By the way I couldn't do
it but didn't post it here whilst I was in negotiations. I wish them well
regardless of your comments that may follow here.

Not sure how this missive will be received.. maybe time to retire. I'm not
asking for any sensitive oh poor you shit comments here but maybe a little
humility from some of the generic crass comments that normally come from some
of the regulars... x

The 96 who died at Hillsborough will always have a place in every footy
supporter's hearts. There's no doubt about it they were innocent victims of a
number of events that afternoon.

That for me doesn't change my opinion of Liverpool, the city and its fans . The
knife merchants and utter lowlife but out of respect for the 96 I will now shut
up and keep my stories to myself. Most people know the score when it cones to
Scousers and the b'stards are still storming gates and getting in without
tickets today.

I always remember going to our 1-0 defeat at Chelsea the saturday after
Hillsborough. Someone had tied a Leeds and a Liverpool scarf together and fixed
them to the fencing at the front of the Leeds end. A classy and at the time
poignant gesture.

The only reason I don't want them to win the league this year is that younger
football fans are always amazed when I inform them that Leeds were champions
more recently than Liverpool!

Re: [LU] Liverpool.. maybe my last words here

2014-04-20 Thread Nick

Same here Andy - i’m rooting for Liverpool (and for Everton to finish above the
Arse)…admittedly part of my support is based on the fact that my other half and
her dad are keen reds (he’s a born and bred scouser…)…but yes, the tone of your
email has it spot on for me, there’s one thing having sporting
rivalries/hatreds (and all teams have some shite-arse little bastards that
attach themselves - FFS are we saying Leeds fans are angels here?) but then
there’s real lives and deaths; and if you can’t see that one matters way more
than the other then you have a problem…

Hillsborough, the injustice etc doesn’t mean they have the "right to win the
league”, no one does, you generally hope that the team playing the best
football wins it, unless it is ManU of course…I find Liverpool much less
offensive that Chelsea, Man U, Arsenal, Spurs…I don’t much mind between them
and City

The real scandal of Hillsborough is not that some fans may or may not have got
in without tickets…it is that the police panicked, lied and covered up…and did
so by pinning the blame on the ordinary folk…and that establishment (both
government and press) bought it and played it for all it was worth, refusing to
accept any other history. This made criminals out of people who went to a
football match. That is an inexcusable fabrication which shows the contempt
that people in power have for the “ordinary person"…just makes you wonder about
all the other times we’re lied to and how often we accept that version.

Keep it up Andy

Re: [LU] Liverpool.. maybe my last words here

2014-04-20 Thread Ted
I agree with all those sentiments Andy & Jonathan.

I've always a small affinity with Liverpool, it started I guess with the
story about Liverpool fans applauding and singing "champions" to us when we
beat them for the title in 69.

Even when they were winning loads of trophies they never seemed (to me) to
think it was "their right", unlike scum today.

And like a lot of people I believed what we were told (initially) by the
police, government and to some extent the press over Hillsborough. I cant
believe its taken 25 years to (nearly) get to the truth. I can't imagine
what the families have gone through.
I was there (Hillsborough) with us in 87 and it so easily could have been
our fans that died.

So yes, I'd like to see them win (only cos we can't!) On a scale of 1 to
100, its 100 for me for Leeds, 1 for L'pool, none for the rest and minus 50
for Scum and Galascum.

And yes Rich, I remember the early 80's and Scousers carrying/using
Stanley's - they were no angels (neither were we) but it doesn't mean they
deserve what they got.

On another note... Barnsley. Remember? We had a game yesterday? No reports?

I went but I'm no tactician or report writer so can only give a few
observations.

Two successive wins, unbeaten in the Cellino era (!) but we're still poor.
A mediocre game at best between two struggling teams.
Murphy looked better playing further forward again.
Ross's first touch and finish were the real bright spot of the game (after
a great knock down from Smith).
Wooton on the wing?? Wtf? God knows what Stewart must think when a sh1t
defender is playing in his position and keeping him out the team.
I wasn't sure what to make of it but as the teams walked off after game,
McDermott only briefly glanced at us fans (they have to walk near our end
to get to tunnel that's in the corner), he gave a quick wave whereas Gibbs
was giving it the big Leeds salute all the way past. He (Gibbs) seems to be
giving more instructions during the game too. Is McD's time coming to an
end? The Leeds fans did sing the McDemott song too.
Good turnout from Leeds fans, even tho we didn't sell about 1200 of our
5300(?) allocation.
I like the Cellino chant, to the Volare tune...
Cellino, oh oh oh oh, he comes from Italy, he pays no V A T, Cellino, oh oh
oh.
Well, it made me smile.
A few pints in Leeds, a short train ride to Barnsley, couple of pints in
the Metrodome, a win (first since 97 at Oakwell?), a short walk back to the
station (avoiding the young Barnsley mob being "held back!" by Plod) a few
more pints in Leeds before the train home. Not a bad day out!

I only thought we'd get one point from the Blackpool game until the end of
the season. Two games on and we have 6 points - shows what I know! Can we
win the last three? Just maybe!

I never said they deserved Hillsborough. Nobody deserved that.
The Italians didn't deserve Heysel either. I firmly believe that neither would

Re Hillsborough:
I guess you'll have been there in 87 Rich? If so, how can you say that?

The only reason IMHO that it didn't happen to us is that because of our
"past", we were checked and re-checked on approaching the stadium. Had that
not slowed down our entry to the ground, (along with the early kick off
before pubs were open) I'm pretty sure it could have been us. Nothing to do
with which city we were from.

But I guess I wont change your mind!
