Michael,

Do you really expect to see TWWS show up in W. Springfield, MA?

I find it hard to buy into a "show" that can't get the word out better than 2-3
weeks before "kickoff".

They are supposed to start in Baltimore in a week+. None of us here in that
area are holding our hopes up (not trusting) that it will pan out (

or

be worth it).

After what happened to many of us that paid up front for what was to be
recorded sessions that we'd be able to watch as we wanted over the next 12
months? Not likely!

There's a competing "Show" -

"Woodworking Expo"(?) They have announced their schedule for this Spring
through early Summer. Check them out. More likely to happen - IMHO.Happy New
Year - to all ya'll!Mac

Top of the morningTim,

No, like my LOM 1200 I don’t use it, anyone in the my neck of the woods
interested in them make me an offer.

Interestingly of all the Clubs I’ve belonged to over the years and all of the
symposiums I’ve attended all over the country not a single woodworker or
woodturner has ever mentioned the Router Crafter or even the Legacy Ornamental
Mill for that matter.

The Woodworking Shows are back on track for this winter after being shut down
for 3 years, I will be doing turning demonstrations at the one in West
Springfield Mass Jan 13-15 for the Western Mass Woodturners the only Club I’m
still active with even though I’m 2 1/2 hours away.

RE: issues not having the reversing left/right gear set

I have never heard of any of the metal gears ever being damaged during use
ever, unless abused by the operator

like if the mill fell over onto the floor or something so yes your right lost
along the way

The machine I'm looking at now is a 1200. The owner(who bought it used) cannot
find any drive gears other than the one on the unit. Also interesting enough
as I had said before the reversing gear set is on the machine and they cannot
find the left hand directional gear. The person said they bought to do spirals
and such ,but then headed in another direction so did not actually use. My gut
is telling me that they either bought it not understanding what it was missing
and then found it to be non functional for what they needed with the missing
gears and therefore it set unused. Or they just misplaced the most important
parts over time and now cant find them. What I find interesting is that so far
any machine that I have seen that is lower priced is missing these gears and
therefore not a current option, but every machine that has the gears appears to
be over priced for what I'm willing to pay for an obsolete machine with a
limited specific functionality. I assume that under normal usage the gears
should not be wearing out, but could they get damaged in use? If not then
obviously all of these gears are being lost along the way.

I find it very funny that most Second hand Legacy's you can find on the market
today, are missing gears. I have no idea why? Its not like they will fit any
other machine on the market, or have any other uses.

BUT The last Three Legacy's that I've bought second hand were all missing the
gears.

So knowing this, Perhaps it could be a good way to get someone selling a Legacy
to lower the price, if they are missing parts?

Many of these people have no idea on what they have, its just something taking
up space, and they just want to get rid of it.

Wish you luck on finding your own Legacy.

Curt my manual said that the 900 only came with the left hand directional gear
set.

If you wanted both you had to order it?

Hello Mike.

Remember that the Legacy comes with 7 drive gears, and at least one Standard
gear set. and two directional gears sets, Beyond that everything is Gravy!

Wish you luck on finding your own Legacy.

talk to you more latter.

Have a good night.

there about a month ago and they received them just the other day.
Gears and Dyna Glide are still available. not much more.

Re: issues not having the reversing left/right gear set

2022-12-30 Thread Tim Ziegler
Hey Mike,

My guess getting lost or misplaced is what is happening to them, especially
2nd and 3rd owners.
Remarkable thing is when I got my WoodChuck, one of the first Legacy's it
had all the gears plus.
This machine did not have many hours on it.
Great thing is you can order these from Legacy at least all the main gears.
Not sure about the directional gears though.
I never had to order them.
Well keep us posted or if there is a machine near one of us, and you'd like
someone to look and take pic's of one your interested in
please let anyone in the group know how they could help.

Kind Regards,

Re: Very Nice Legacy for sale ON E-bay

2022-12-30 Thread Mike Newman
Yep I'm aware of this machine and just not willing to spend that kind of
money. Im working on others that are much better deals than this one. I
always think about re-sale value on these types of purchases to manage the
down side risk if I decide to change directions or my direction is changed
for me. Can I exit with a reasonable cost difference that makes it worth
it. If I'm using in a business I can also factor in profit from sales off
of it as a part of the equation. This is more of a hobby purchase so
limited revenue in the equation. May be able to turn some of my ideas into
business things but not that far down the road on this one. When I bought
my sawmill years ago when I first retired there was a significant amount of
revenue/profit generated by the machine that more than offset its full
purchase price and then when I was done I was able to sell it for what I
paid which is the best kind of deal. These LOM's are niche enough machines
that there is a limited market for resale/use so I need to be more
selective in spending my budget. My CNC was the similar to the sawmill. I
had it for a year and was able to sell for 95% of purchase price because I
had an certain level of machine that appealed to many people looking to
upgrade. I'm in no real hurry, but my nature is to move quickly if I can
since the clock never stops on life , right.

Re: issues not having the reversing left/right gear set

2022-12-30 Thread Mike Newman
Good to know that they will probably not wear out if I can find a set of
them or machine with them. I was waiting until after the holidays to call
Cindy at Legacy to better understand what if any options exist there and at
what cost/leadtime. Also was hoping to find a machine with them at a
reasonable price sooner/easier. I'm sure a few more machines will hit the
market after the holidays as some do not want the hassle of selling
something during that time if they have company or are traveling.

Re: issues not having the reversing left/right gear set

2022-12-30 Thread 'Curt George' via Legacy Ornamental Mills
 Good morning Mike
After Years of use, I have not had any problems with the gears, I honestly do
not think, a normal Legacy user would ever weir out a gear, If they/ the gears,
are missing it due to being lost or misplaced. Which is really frustrating to
me. knowing that the gears are going to be thrown in the trash or had already
been so.
I need to call Cindy at Legacy and ask he about making the drive gears.  I was
told, in the past that Legacy would make all wearable parts for there machines,
but when I last checked, they told me that they did not have any. Which I took
to mean that they were not selling them any more. And if Legacy will still make
them, at what cost? ($$$) .I wish you luck on your quest, Mike. Hopefully you
will soon find the machine of your dreams. ;-)

Re: router crafter

2022-12-30 Thread Mike Newman
I'm about ready to open up the box on the new never used router crafter
sitting on my shelf just to have something to play with this winter, but
then I can't advertise it as new never used to sell it. This could be the
most important decision of the day. LOL I already know how to easily
extend the centers out to 6ft and I could be making twisties by the end of
the day. Something to think about over morning coffee.

Re: issues not having the reversing left/right gear set

2022-12-30 Thread Mike Newman
The machine I'm looking at now is a 1200. The owner(who bought it used)
cannot find any drive gears other than the one on the unit. Also
interesting enough as I had said before the reversing gear set is on the
machine and they cannot find the left hand directional gear. The person
said they bought to do spirals and such ,but then headed in another
direction so did not actually use. My gut is telling me that they either
bought it not understanding what it was missing and then found it to be non
functional for what they needed with the missing gears and therefore it set
unused. Or they just misplaced the most important parts over time and now
cant find them. What I find interesting is that so far any machine that I
have seen that is lower priced is missing these gears and therefore not a
current option, but every machine that has the gears appears to be over
priced for what I'm willing to pay for an obsolete machine with a limited
specific functionality. I assume that under normal usage the gears should
not be wearing out, but could they get damaged in use? If not then
obviously all of these gears are being lost along the way.

Re: router crafter

2022-12-30 Thread Tim Ziegler
Thanks Michael,

Yeah wish we were closer I'd snap up your LOM, But we are in midwinter here
and lots of icy roads. Not great for travel.
It is odd that no one talks about them or maybe don't even own one. It does
seem to be a special type of niche that many
are intimidated by. Also a certain age group of which many are
downsizing and can't sacrifice the space maybe???

Well I am excited for your shows to start. Keep an eye out for Rollie
Johnson, I am sure he's more than ready too.
Look his name up in the Fine WoodWorking Magazine, he's been busy writing
articles for sure.

Re: triton router

2022-12-30 Thread Tim Ziegler
yes and they have really nailed it. They are quiet and smooth. Makita has
really "up-ed" their game.
they had to or they would have been left in the red and yellow dust.
Though I'm a big Milwaukee fan, I don't own their routers or chop saw.
