Re: NEW TOOL ALERT! EZ∙Drive System for Woodpeckers Slab Flattening Mills.

2024-07-10 Thread Shuai Robert
Wanted to point out if new router but hit a knot its likely to microchip.
Ideally sand the knots?

So to level a slab I would have to crosscut both sides with a core box,
ball nose bit (half of a ball instead of flat end mill)

Both sides, let it settle for a year ideally, then sand/plane the little
ledges left by bullnose.

If you have a crosscut sled table saw with dado it's same idea upside down,
or a track saw if set/shimmed correctly.

Crosscutting save time having to identify grain direction with none helical
cutters. Also relief internal tension.

But all this takes too long, just don't hit a knot and tear out too much,
sand to hide flaw.. ask customer which side he prefers before putting too
much work on one side.

Repeated exposure to ammonia, usually in the workplace, may cause chronic
irritation of the respiratory tract. Multiple exposures to ammonia have
produced chronic cough, asthma, lung fibrosis, and reactive airways
dysfunction syndrome (RADS), a chemical irritant–induced type of asthma.
Chronic irritation of the eye membranes and dermatitis have also been
reported

Also I've heard of ammonia or other volatile solvents working well in
vacuum chamber or might've been pressurized back in the day when they did
the experiment.

So logic tells me I will try vinegar in vacuum chamber to help with
penetration.

Re: wood bending with vinegar

2024-07-02 Thread Shuai Robert
Hello dear friends,

Thank you for sharing, I didn't know about vinegar.

I have steamed wood for bending and found rosewood to be insanely bendable
with heat.

I have bleached wood to the point it becomes toilet paper like and just
melted all the lignin (cell glue?) I guess I can epoxy this mushed fiber
bundle back to solid

Oak bending (steam) actually probably requires almost zero runout (split
wood from froe) there are videos on how to beat green white oak into strips
to weave baskets.

Veneer soft 2 and other alcohol based veneer softener also work I believe
but have limited penetration.

Product Description

[image: Veneer Softener]Super-Soft 2™ softens crotch, burl, and other wavy
veneers. This improved version conditions veneer by temporarily
plasticizing wood cells without leaving a residue or odor. Veneer softener
helps prevent splits and cracks by making the sheet surprisingly flexible.
It does all this without affecting the veneer's bonding, staining, or
finishing propertie

There are so many styles for machines

I bought a laser
Sheave Alignment System branded as Johnson made by lasertoolsco.com in
little rock Arkansas and it was very badly machined on the inside (like 40
grit finish), and the switch was a solid piece of brass twist to contact 2
AA batteries. I would not recommend the AR manufacturer for laser.. Germany
or Taiwan seems to be better at laser..

Re: DynaGlide suppliers

2022-01-26 Thread Shuai Robert
Wet lube has reputation of attracting more dust than dry lube

in our legacy application, I think a mixture of mineral oil (baby oil) +
petroleum jelly (vaseline) to achieve a lithium grease consistency will
actually help with dealing with dust.

Heavy Router plate pressuring downward and sideways compress wood dust and
along with wood resin it starts to form small blob of "compressed gunk"

this gunk will start scraping off dry lubes.

with petro jelly mixed with mineral oil the dust mixture cannot achieve
"hardness" because the Jelly keeps particles from binding.

this slime smears and re-lube your surface each pass.

2022-01-25 Thread Shuai Robert
Hello guys,

I have used the
Slip-it https://www.slipit.com/all-products/sf-sliding-compound/index.html
for hand-planes on wood, also on hand saw and jig saw blades to reduce
friction.

It is non toxic paste with a little bit of liquid oil and becomes softer
with temperature (soft year-round for So Cal weather). I can apply it with
cheap brushes and due to being silicone free it doesn't cause fish eye on
finishing

Regardless don't put it on the piece you're cutting, just on metal tools or
wood on wood jigs.

It does not dry or film, (note manufacture claims it attracts less dust -
due to paste wax sitting on top of oil), but as long as the gunk has a
place to go it wouldn't affect operation.

one quart lasts forever. you just dip a brush lightly on top of the soft
oily paste and apply liberally over surface of intended travel of your tool.

If it's possible to coat the rails with epoxy precisely that will be most
slide-y surface.

I have a legacy in the garage for few years now, bought for $300 cash
including the Porter Cable Router.. haven't got to using it yet. Slip-it is
what I would use on the metal contact points.
