Re: 2 Morse Taper
The pictures brought back memories of my machine shop days. I ran a 120" VTM, a 5" Horizontal mill, 10' tracer lath, and a host of othe machines. At the Rexnord/Nordberg plant where I worked they had a 26' VTM. Always loved seeing the massive parts being machined on that HUGE machine. Then I went into welding, and that was my most fun job! Hi Bill Having reached the age of 84, and the good Wife thought it would be a good idea if we moved closer to the Daughters Great and great Grand. We bought a small house near them. Not much room for all my lathes milling machine welders etc etc etc. So had to dispose of it, gave most of it to a younger chap who used to work for me in the Forestrry contacting job. It feels like a big mistake now to have got rid of it all /!!?? Re: 2 Morse Taper
No one mentioned to NOT hammer it in like you would a lathe.Ā In fact I wouldĀ recommendĀ that you take it out frequently.Ā Ā You remove the knob from the end of the spindle and use the 1/4" Allen wrench to tap it out.Ā If you don't follow this advice, you will find the drive gets stuck inside the socket and heavier means are necessary. If you really don't take this advice, the two metals will become one and they are seriously not for woodworkers to attempt getting them apart! So some of this was said tongue in check, but the double locking collar is the definitive way to go.Ā Last I checked, legacy still had then in stock.Ā They are just two locking collars welded together. One has a smooth 1" bore that tightens on the drive an the other collar I threaded 1-8 that tightens on the spindle If you choose to use a chuck or a face plate you will need a smooth bore split collar to make the accessories turn true. Hope that helps On Aug 3, 2019, 2:41 AM, at 2:41 AM, Richard Ellis wrote: >I have just put together my shortened 900 However I am not to impressed > >with the head stock 2 morse. Re: 2 Morse Taper
What make you think the 2MT will slip - they don't on a lathe which has much high rotational forces placed on it then a 900.
