Yes your right russ it does give much more accurate positioning as well sorry I
forgot to mention it before, as well as the added stability it gives the saddle
for template work. and thank you for all your videos it gives new legacy owners

I bought said vise at a garage sale for $5.00 and a friend cleaning out his
garage gave me another vise with all the goodies and the so called lathe. The
lathe was a separate device in a box. Meant to be driven by a drill. I've
never used any of it. Clamping the vice to the rails is a slick idea. Might
need to play with it.

Thanks bill. I plan on making a clip to attach to different rulers. As to the
“multivice thingos”, it’s a zyliss vise. I love that thingo :>)it’s like
the swiss army knife of vises. Do search on youtube on the name and you’ll
find several demo videos. It was worth every penny I paid for it on ebay.
Don’t tell anyone, I am addicted to vises like others are addicted to plum
bobs, handplanes, or handsaws, or . . . well, you get the idea. I’ll do a
video on my milling table soon (If interested) and show how I use the vise.

RE: New Legacy video on youtube

2017-08-23 Thread Russ Veinot
I should mention that the zyliss works on my LOM table but think that if I was
building a new table, I would put a classic workbench tail vise on one end with
dog holes down the center and a moxon vise on the other end. The problem with
that setup would be the weight of the table when done. Also, A tail vise
would have less hanging down under the table.

The other issue with my table design is when you want to machine a board on
edge. Especially a longer (and wider) board. More on that when I finish that
prototype table :>)

not bad not to bad at all i like it simple and very fast, very fine adjustments
could be done with shims, also solves the problem of keeping the bed flat when
adjusting height .

new legacy video on youtube

2017-08-02 Thread Russ Veinot
I just downloaded another video. It’s about how to adjust the rail height
easily. I can adjust mine in under 1 minute. All comments are welcomed.

I use a spot light pointing directly into the center where the bit is. When
well lit, you can see the bit in action.
