 Good morning Ed.
What Legacy modal do you own?
Owning a second hand machine may offer you some very real benefits that you
arenot aware of. And of a matter of coarse there may be still some MOD's that
you will/ could add to your machine, to make it your own.
Feel free to ask and or add to any topic offered. That's why this group was
made, so every Legacy user could lean and grow form the conversations with
others who users.  The Legacy is a good machine, but there is a learning curve
that needs to be understood, and explored by every user/owner of the machine.
Who knows that one trick or method freely offered, just might help others who
are running into a problem, what may be common since to you, may not be for
others. So be sharing we "ALL" can grow form the experiences.
Have a good day.

it even more control, by using a router jig (sold at Rockler woodworking.) Now
I still found that I had some problems using this template follower.Problem #1
stiffness of the X axis. It was hard to move the carriage and control the Y

both movements for control, and #2. I found, that I did not need to control the

much easer, but it is not nessasary to have in order to use the follower.
NOTE: different mind-set.  I own a lathe and use it with the Legacy on
different jobs. I find both machines work very well together/better then either
machine dose independently.  I LIKE adding details with the Legacy, So a lot of
the rough work is done on my lathe. the fine details are done on the Legacy,
like roping and fluting/reeding...  For me this is where the template follower
works for me.
Now I can do everything with the follower if nessasary, but it will take longer
and honestly it just dose not give me the look I am always trying to achieve.
(fine details/sharp lines/cuts are not there, they are more rounder.)
NOW cutting form the side will give you the profile more like a lathe, and
using the  template follower will also help you control the movement/shape of
the spindle.
NOTE: More light cuts will always give you better results over LARGE Cuts,
which remove to much material. (Speed vs quality.)

Im sorry I need to stop here.

I fixed this in two ways. #1 I added handles on both movements for control, and
#2. I found, that I did not need to control the X movement since I had a motor
drive, I just let the motor do its thing, so I only needed to control the Y
Axis movement, this made things much easer.

NOTE: three photo of my last MOD. done on my 1000ex.

NOW How to use the template follower.

If you have a motor control it makes life much easer, but it is not nessasary
to have in order to use the follower.

MORE LATTER.

C.A.G.

Hello Everyone.

I am in the process of making a new template follower for my 1000ex.

Over the years I've modified my template follower a number of time. Each time

learning and improving the original design. I state this to the fact that many
in the

group are new, and have not see the modifications that have been done.

(If anyone would like I can post some old photos of these mod.?)

But at this time, I will just go over the goals of this new MOD.

To start off , my legacy was modified to work on linear rail back in 2020. And
my Carriage was also

modified to give me a longer depth of cut, over the original Legacy design.
Having said this

My Legacy no longer looks like what most of you all own. Because/due to this
MOD, I can no longer

use the template follower in the same way as I used to do.

My plan it to make the follower work form a table that is in the front of the
Legacy (working side, not the back side as originally made.) I find working
form the front makes everything more user friendly.

Now WHY go through all the troubles in Modifying the template follower for the
Legacy, When it is the least used tool on the Legacy?

I find that using the template follower gives the Legacy an ability that most
people would only dream of.

Giving the Legacy the ability to follow a profile/shape, as well as other
design elements that can not be easily

done on other machines. (It dose not make the Legacy into a copy lathe, meaning
it dose NOT make exact copies of an object, but it dose add a lot of similar
possibility's to the Legacy, that you can not get else-ware.)

I will stop here and show some old works that I done using the follower on my
Legacy. Perhaps Latter we can

then talk about more possibility's that the Legacy can do, and perhaps, explore
some new ideas?

talk to you all more latter.

Have a good night.
