I got mine from Tim. Excellent tool and very fast. It can be used to offset the
bed easily and consistently too.

RE: Leveling 900 Rails

2019-11-30 Thread artmarbles
My height tool uses 3/16” stainless steel. The old models (1000/1500) all had
round holes that you used as a visual check. Then you would measure all the
corners at least once to make sure the bed was level. The newer machine used
the same visual method and measurement. I developed my version only for the
900’s because at the time only standing models of the 1200/1800 where being
sold. With the added acme screw on both ends it was easier to set the bed. You
still had to measure the four corners to make things flat enough.

Enter my height tool. It uses twice the amount of locations then the old
models but the real innovation was using the rods. When placing the rods in
the brackets, you are able to let the bed rest on a repeatable location. Then
simply tighten the bed down. No need to check all the corners. They will
always be in the same place.

Hope that helps.

Legacy started making the slots in there machines when they started there new
factory, WITH there new CNC laser.

My guess why they started making this design, is simply there new laser could
do the job quicker (Time is money.) On the older machines many of the parts
were punched out, with a press. The laser could do the same jobs (even if so,
they were a little different) faster and cheaper then the old ways of making
there machines.

I would also like to point out, it wasn't but a few years after Legacy started
using a CNC laser, until they making everything CNC, and drooped the manual
line all together.

just put them there for no good reason.
Did you see my old post when I showed the adjustment for the Revo?

RE: Leveling 900 Rails

2019-11-29 Thread bulkeley
Curt is right tims unit does make things easier and also more accurate on
adjusting the bed height, yes you can do things by altering the existing holes
in the legs but tims is just easier also you can move tims along the rails if
needed. Tims unit doesn’t lift the bed it just makes it real easy to aline it
when you do either by hand or what ever mechanical means you use.

Hello Richard

Tim's jig/device was made to improve the height adjustment for exactly the same
types of units you show in your pictures. the staircase alignment slot in the
legs of your unit (shown in the picture), were not as users friendly OR precise
as

what Legacy use to make (in the earlier Legacy models).

By no means is Tim's jig necessary,to make the bench top unit work, it is only
a simpler way to get the exact height you want in the rail adjustment.

(A jig, is any tool that makes the job easier to do/perform) . This is exactly
what those plates do.They make the alignment of the Legacy's rails easier and
more precise. Its up to the person using the Legacy to decide if they are
needed or not.

Have a good day.

Re: Leveling 900 Rails

2019-11-29 Thread Richard Ellis
Hi Curt
I was wondering as to what the slots were for. As I have not seen another
900 I don't know if all 900's had them.
I intend to make a small jig , may have to enlarge the slots.
Has anyone on the group done anything similar??
Certainly making jigs is all part of playing with the LOM's I have made
quite a few for my Revo
