Re: [LegacyUG] photo search
Cathy, Thank you! I've never checked out all of the Scrapbook features, primarily because I wasn't interested in 'slide shows', etc. Having to page through all of the attachments isn't perfect, but it gave me the path/picture clues I needed. For JLB, Nancy, and others: I had already been using the Options | Customize | Locations and the Picture Center. That was my problem. It told me I had pictures on a path, but there was no way to work backwards to find out what they were or who they were attached to, especially because it retains the path of obsolete directories. That's where the Scrapbook worked. Thanks to all. Mike Michael J Method family research of: Method, Feehily, Fredrick, Herzog, tenEyck, Belsley In a message dated 12/18/2007 6:12:54 P.M. Re: [LegacyUG] Reports
Sherry, I would expect that whatever scanning software is used, you should be able to scan the entire flatbed as one image. You may need to 'discard' some of the individual selections it shows you in Preview mode and then stretch the remaining dotted outline box to collect what you want. Considering that it could be a collage, you could have many photos and they don't all need to be regimented in rows and columns. Re: [LegacyUG] Reports
Sherry, I have a suggestion for you that has worked for me on scanners that work in that way. When you scan a group of photos put over the back of them a large piece of paper/white cardboard to cover the entire scanning area. This tricks the scanner into thinking there is just one image. This trick can also help when you get scan bleed through when scanning an image that has print on both sides such as a letter. Sherry. This can be done using The GIMP and I would imagine Photoshop. It is quite possible that other photo-manipulation programs could do it as well. I know it can also be done in Open Office and hence it should be possible in MS Word also. [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage
How can I get a picture of a marriage included into the generated reports. The only option I can check is pictures of persons, but no other pictures of (e.g.) events like a marriage. The picture is in the database (the pictorgram is active on the input screen) but I see no posibility to include in either a generated report or internet pages. Thanks for any help on this. Re: [LegacyUG] Pictures for marriage
Rob, If you have time to search the archives you'll see this has been asked numerous times, and you will get to see all sorts of ideas to work around the problem. (This affects the basic facts of birth, baptism, death, burial, and marriage.) Most people create a separate event called wedding picture or just photo and attach it to that. [LegacyUG] Making collages [was Reports]
You don't have to scan all the pics at once. You can make a collage with photo editing software. Even the free Faststone Image Viewer has this facility - use the Tools Wallpaper anywhere. Change the background colour. Use as many photos as you like, use the masks to blur or shape the images. The limitation with Faststone is that the resolution will be your screen resolution. I now have a 1680x1050 pixel monitor so that's not the drawback it was. With more sophisticated photo editing software you can add photos to the one canvas and rearrange, rotate individual images etc. But you need layers to do it that way. Or use Microsoft Publisher or Powerpoint and then save the slide as a jpg. Collage images are very useful to add to Legacy Calendars. Make a collage of everyone who has a birthday or anniversary that month. Cathy At 01:13 AM 20/12/2007, you wrote: Rich, I like that idea! RE: [LegacyUG] Reports
You can get standard (US) grade school photos all eight years on one. (4 x 2 landscape) Overlapping the white borders gives extra room. Putting more requires creating a collage look, but the final products are generally worth the time spent on it. You might create a 'poster' and use scrolled clear tape as double sided (not the real stuff), and take apart, when complete, before the photo backs start reacting to glue (sticky stuff?). Large enough is a judgement call. You must learn the ancient game of confusing the computer, and they are getting smarter. I put a plain page behind them, that way I don't get a background of printer parts. When using color photos, an off-white bacground can add zest? [LegacyUG] Search for range of RIN
I am quite certain that I have been able to do a detailed search for a range of RIN numbers. In version 6.0.0.168 and possibly other recent versions, something has changed so that the Individual RIN field is treated like text instead of a number. The MRIN field is still treated correctly and the search works for it the right way. Has anyone else noticed when the logic changed for searches on Individual RIN?...or that it did change? I would like, for example, to search for RIN numbers greater than 100 and less than 450. Ron Taylor Give Legacy as a Gift for 25% Off. Re: [LegacyUG] Search for range of RIN
Hi Ron, There's an acknowledged bug that was discussed earlier this week under the mrin search thread Here's what Brian said: Problem report submitted to programmers. As stated elsewhere in this thread, the beta release is working but I found three defects in the General Release 6.0.0.168 1. MRIN search returns no records. 2. Individual Search by RIN returns no records. 3. When looking at the choices for How to Look for Individual RIN the list seems to be the list used for dates not for RIN. My list was Equal to, Before, After, Not Equal to and Contains.
