Michael:
I would suggest that you contact the outlet you have selected to do
the printing and find out from them what printer drivers they
use(assuming that they are using a plotter type printer)
Once you know which printer/plotter they are using, download the
driver and then, using that driver, format your chart according to
the paper sizes available for that printer/plotter. That should give
you a pretty exact chart size and make the chart a dream for them to print.

Re: [LegacyUG] The marriage tag - What is is good for?

2009-09-08 Thread Kramer
I would imagine it would work to tag marriages that you come across
where one or both spouses died leaving behind young children so you
check on whether the surviving spouse remarried or if someone was
appointed guardian. However, that could be done in the To Do list.
In the marriage view, I would rather be able to note the church
location of the marriage rather than having to make it an event to
record the church name. In the deluxe versions of 6.0 and 7.0
everything else has the link to record an address, but not a
marriage. So I make it a marriage event so I can keep record of it.

Under search you can find all marriages that have status "divorced"
but at this point the option to tag all of those marriage records
has not been added to the program. You can manually set those tags
in Legacy and then use the Marriage Tag tool at the bottom right to
look at each of the tagged marriages. Another good example would be
to find all marriages with place containing "Boise". The search
works well but again there is no option to set those marriage tags
for the search results. Instead, you can set the individual tag but
if an individual has multiple marriages...not all of them will be in
Boise so you will have to page through them to find the one that
triggered the tag.

Summary: Marriage tagging could be a valuable tool and should be
developed. Millennia needs to add to the "Advanced Tagging" the
option to tag the marriages. Most of the other tools are already
present to use those tags in searches, etc.

Yes, I belong to those most people, and never had any reason to use
the Marriage Tag. I only meant that a user who tagged the marriages
can print the Search List of those tagged marriages.

How usefull this is? I don't know.

Perhaps I'd better clarify that. I meant the "like most people" to
apply to the first part only, about Individual Tags.

The size that is shown at the bottom of the screen is the size of the

[LegacyUG] Photo Gallery

2009-09-08 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
I have some people with 'dozens' of photos. Looking at the Gallery, I uncheck
many of them to create a Photo Album with less than the whole batch. Using the
'Preview' it still includes ALL of them. I can not find, in either the book or
the help file, how to print a partial list. What I have been doing is create a
Photo album at 30 per page, then send to a 'new' family member to choose which
they might like to have forwarded to them, but some of the photos are actually
scans of documents, which are not offered by me in this operation.
I don't want to remove the photos from my photo gallery and reinstall later.

Re: [LegacyUG] How would you list these military events?

2009-09-08 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES
It depends on what you want to do with the 'facts'. If you can attach photos
for 'most' of the locations, it might be better to split the Events then. If
you use the chronology tool, that would be good. Some of those places may have
'museums' at the sites (to photograph). This also depends where you might use
it eventually.

[LegacyUG] How would you list these military events?

2009-09-08 Thread Michele Lewis

I am looking at one of the most complete CSA records I have ever seen.

03 Sep 1861 - enlisted in the CSA at Camp McDonald, GA.
03 Sep 1861 to 03 Nov 1861 - listed as present on the company muster roll
Nov 1861 - listed as absent on Regimental Return, "Left at home in Ga. on
[?] furlough

03 Nov 1861 to 01 Jan 1862 - listed as present on the company muster roll
Jan and Feb 1862 - listed as present on the company muster roll
Mar and Apr 1862 - listed as present on the company muster roll. "Detailed
on special duy"

Jul 1862 - listed as absent on Regimental Return, "Sent to Genl hospital"
29 Sep 1862 - listed on morning report as being released back to duty from
General Hospital, Camp Winder, Richmond, VA
30 Sep 1862 - listed on morning report as being released back to duty from
General Hospital, Camp Winder, Richmond, VA.
23 Jul 1863 - listed as a casualty [missing] in Wright's Brigade in
engagement at Manassa Gap, VA

Sep and Oct 1863 - listed as present on the company muster roll
31 Oct 1863 - listed on the hospital muster roll, 2d Division, Jackson
Hospital, Richmond, VA
Nov and Dec 1863 - listed as absent on the company muster roll. "Furloughed
from hospital"

08 Nov 1863 - listed as being admitted to General Hospital #9, Richmond, VA.
09 Nov 1863 - listed as being transferred from General Hospital #9 Richmond,
VA to Jackson Hospital Richmond, VA
10 Nov 1863 - Admitted to Jackson Hospital in Richmond, VA with "Debilitas"
[Defined as weakness or feebleness]

18 Nov 1863 - Furloughed from Jackson Hospital Richmond, VA for 30 days
1864 - listed on a receipt roll for clothing, issued "2 qr"
1864 - listed on a receipt roll for clothing, issued "3 Qr"
Sep and Oct 1864 - listed as present on the company muster roll
Nov and Dec 1864 - listed as present on the company muster roll
Jan and Feb 1865 - listed as present on the company muster roll
09 Apr 1865 - Listed as a POW at the surrender at Appomattox Coutyhouse, VA

Wiley's medical card number was 52045712

Would you list these a separate military events or make one event and list
all of this in the notes???

Gwen,

The examples given will only work if the place of birth is recorded in the
Location field and only contains "Doncaster".

For the second condition try using AND individua, place of birth, contains
Doncaster.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Filter for location details

Hi everyone

I am trying to do a search, filter for anyone who is born in
Doncaster who has no death or burial details./

I did this:

Individual
Death place
Equal to
blank

This works however it also picks up everyone born in different place
so I have a large search list of people.
What could I use as a second condition to filter this out better so
I only find the following

Anyone born/christened in Doncaster
and
Anyone who does not have information in the Death/Burial place

Thanks heaps for any help with this. I am a little confused how it
should work.

Gwen
