Thanks Cathy, you were right. I unchecked both and there are no MT pages. The footnote number was shown next to the name or the event but the footnote number and source citation were missing from the bottom of the page. "Curiouser, and curiouser!" As for your blank page, on the Page Layout tab of the Descendant Book window, there is an option to start each generation on a new page and you can also designate that it be an odd numbered page. I would hazard a guess that you have these boxes showing a tick mark in them. Dennis and Ron, I've looked in my C\Legacy 7 folder and do not find the Install.log file. Unless it's hidden in another file it just isn't there. Also I did send a problem report to the Legacy's support link and received back a ticket number. That was Sunday as I recall. [LegacyUG] Legacy charting problem
Kathy, a couple of suggestions. 1. you might look at the picture gallery for each of the people that you had hoped to include in your chart. If you find a ? in a frame, Legacy has lost the path to the picture and it will give you an error message. It'll do the same if you do a multimedia backup. When I do a multimedia backup I've been getting a *Missing Multimedia File in C:\\ etc. I finally found time to look at each file and found every error in the picture gallery and just did a *remove* for each of those that had a ? in the square. I've moved all of my pictures to an external hard drive (not a flash drive) because my pc is an old one and I'm running out of space. For some reason in that move the connection to a few of the picture was lost. It's a simple matter to re-insert the picture again into the picture gallery and when I find time I'll do that. My recommendation would be to get your pictures onto the hard drive. I hope you also have made a backup CD of your picture files. Pictures on the flash drive might work for years, but might not. I've never had a problem with a flash drive but others have so it's not worth it to take a chance. If you don't have an external drive, please put them on onto your C drive. Hope this helps you. [LegacyUG] Newbie questions
Kathy, welcome to Legacy. It appears that you found as most of us did, when you transfer from one genealogy software things show up in the funniest places. At first I thought that I'd made a mistake in buying Legacy. Most of the errors were because I didn't enter them into the right fields in that other genealogy software. Answering some of your questions: Census Records: Geoff Rasmusson in one of his Legacy training video's shows how to enter the census records as an event. All of the information is entered in an event screen. Then copy it and paste it to each of the other people listed in the census. Each person has the same Source and the same data and you only enter it once. You do have to enter the event title, date and place. then just paste in the event screen. Cemetery data: The way I enter cemetery information is to click on the cross + to the far right of the Burial line in an individual page. There you may enter the name of the cemetery, the address of same and even pictures relating to the burial such as an overall picture of the cemetery and a gravestone picture. The obituary is a good addition here also. Re: [LegacyUG] help using new source writer
Anne, I checked this site and found it well done, interesting and helpful. If you found information on a family that is helpful that is good. However, I don't think you should use an index as a source. There are several reasons an index shouldn't be used. First of all: is what you are seeing exactly as it was in the original church record, or any other record that was used to create the index? Secondly: IMO an index would be best if used as a clue to help you locate the actual record. My suggestion would be to follow up on the information that you found and send for a copy of the actual record, or you might find that LDS has a microfilm of the record in question that you could search at your local LDS library. Having said all of that, in the new Master Source Writer, I would use Church records or Marriage records as the type of source. As you progress through the choices, you'll notice that at no point does it mention the word index but you might find something in each tab that works for you. An alternative might be to use the Basic Style Source Template. I have found the Master Source Writer a little easier to use as I continue to work with it. For example, if I'm working on a census record then I enter a lot of census records so that I develop a pattern and get the feel for how or what I'm supposed to be doing.. As to naming the source I'd suggest: Great Britian, MidKent marriage records or another part of the Website Link. This information from the index might be best kept under the tab *Research* until you have the actual data closest to when the original was entered in a church register. Feel free to contact me off line at phusba...@verizon.net if you wish. Good luck, Phil - Original Message - From: "Anne Brooks" To: Sent: Saturday, January 03, 2009 5:50 AM Subject: [LegacyUG] help using new source writer I would like someone to share with me how they would create a master source (using the new source writer), for a marriage found in the index at this website below. I am finding it very difficult to use this tool. I think if you put Mid Kent Marriages Index in Google it will come up. http://woodchurchancestry.org.uk/midkentmarriages/about.html I cannot even decide which of the many options for step 1 would be the most appropriate. Am I alone in finding this difficult? Many thanks, Anne Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp No virus found in this incoming message. [LegacyUG] A question about Sourcing
I have a problem, probably a brick wall in my mind, about sourcing. Determining and naming a Master Source in particular. I have several newspaper articles, some I inherited, some I've downloaded from Ancestry.com Historical Newspaper collection. The articles are from several newspapers, in quite a few cities. I'm using them to keep track of when and where a particular family worked and lived in various cities. The articles range from 1902 to 1944. A majority, but not all, of these articles are from personal news columns (gossip columns). Can someone of this group using Legacy suggest one Master Source that I could use? I have Evidence Explained at hand, while there are many illustrations, what I need is how to name the master source. Phil Husband *** Holiday discounts on Legacy 7.0, add-ons, books, and more.
