Our support staff will be addressing your query in the Support Forum. Pierre At 05:59 PM 11 12 2006, you wrote: Hi Pierre, thanks for pointing out these features of Map My Family Tree (MMFT) software. I am looking forward to trying out all these nifty features. In the mean time, could you help with this question? I posted it to the MMFT message board this morning, but have not seen a response yet. I need some guidance on the following scenario: My Legacy database location reads: Bainbridge - Oak City Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia, USA The official gazeteer entry in MMFT with coordinates reads: Oak City Cemetery, Decatur County, Georgia, United States I defined a custom place: Oak City Cem. to go with the official entry above (that's what will show up by the dot on the map) I want to leave my Legacy database entry exactly as it is (with the city name as well as the cemetery name in front of the first comma, but have the MMTF gazetteer recognize that my Legacy location and the official gazeteer location (which contains the appropriate coordinates) are one in the same and to not count my Legacy location entry as an error. I feel I must be missing something, but I have been over the help section of MMFT several times to try to figure this out on my own. Thanks for helping answer this. I feel sure this will help out other potential customers who want to use MMFT with Legacy. Gail Rich Nestor Smyrna, Georgia www.roots2buds.net *** Give the gift of Legacy for the holidays! Map My Family Tree shows individual Canadian provinces. We have not yet found an economical source for the Counties, will probably have to digitize it ourselves. Re: [LegacyUG] Map My Family Tree - how do I recover my registration key?
I apologize if I'm mistaken, but I believe this thread has metamorphosed from "Registration key for Legacy Family Tree" into "Registration key for Map My Family Tree". Just for the record, Map My Family Tree does not require a registration key. I speculate that Ms. Smith may have originally been inquiring about a Registration key for Legacy Deluxe? For all questions regarding Map My Family Tree support, please visit our Support Forum. We're trying to answer questions as conveniently as possible for our customers, but would not want to usurp this newsgroup with questions not related to Legacy. Respectfully yours, Pierre Cloutier At 08:32 AM 12 12 2006, you wrote: This one was so weird I checked - and he's right. We've been discussing Map My Family Tree like it's Millenia's, and that's almost certainly why I purchased it, but it isn't Millenia's. It's Progeny's. I wonder if that means it should do much of anything. Thanks, Ron, you saved me two days of phone calls! If you didn't purchase the software through Millennia, why would you even begin to ask about your registration key on this list? Common sense would dictate that you go to the source of your purchase. Re: [LegacyUG] Re: Map My Family Tree
Please forgive my forwardness but I would like to point out that: Map My Family Tree is the only genealogy mapping program that can print large maps by automatically tiling them over several pages for easy, convenient assembly. Large maps enable you to see greater detail, such as a list of all persons living in a town. Map My Family Tree will not crash when publishing PDF 24" × 36" or larger. The PDF maps are sharp, clear and compact, because they are stored as vectors, not raster images. Great for taking to Kinko's. Map My Family Tree gives you precise control over the pixel size of image files (JPG, BMP, etc). The maps can be annotated with text, lines and photos, using your favorite image editing program, such as Paint or Photoshop. Your custom placemarkers will appear in Google Earth, featuring the spinning globe. Print place names and people's names: you don't have to sacrifice one for the other! These features are rather obscure and technical, but in the long run, they insure robust and practical map-printing. Pierre Hi Susan, I think I may have inadvertently led others astray with keeping the same subject line on some of my previous notes. The original thread started out discussing Family Atlas and its features. Then I stepped in and asked for a comparison between Family Atlas and Map My Family Tree. I should have changed the subject line back then. Then Geoff from Legacy stepped in and mentioned that Legacy was selling Map My Family Tree (not Family Atlas) as an add-on to Legacy. After reviewing information for both programs, I decided to purchase Map My Family Tree. I just received the CD Saturday and am just now plugging it in to install. I promise a review some time very soon. The price tag for Family Atlas seems very good, but I am hopeful that Map My Family Tree will be worth the extra bucks. Hope this helps clear up the confusion! Re: [LegacyUG] Family Atlas Genealogy Mapping
Map My Family Tree does not show historical boundaries at the present time. We are aware of the interest in historical maps, since most of a person's family history happened in the past. This enhancement is on our list. Pierre Cloutier At 08:00 PM 30 11 2006, you wrote: Here's a question - When the map drills down to more detail in the US (where 98% of my family research is based at present), does it only provide current county lines within a state, or does it have the ability to convert boundaries as you scroll back through time? This would be neat! To see an example of this feature in action for the state of Georgia, see http://www.mygeorgiagenealogy.com/ga_maps/ga_cf.htm. *** Give the gift of Legacy for the holidays! Re: [LegacyUG] Family Atlas Genealogy Mapping
Map My Family Tree ver. 1.3 offers filters which enable you to choose what appears on your map. You can select any combination of: Individuals Names Gender Ancestors Descendants Date range Type of event MMFT provides a variety of colorful placemarkers. You can also use your own images as placemarkers. These same placemarkers will also appear on the Google Earth map (not the generic Google placemarkers). Map My Family Tree 1.3 can be downloaded as a free upgrade. Pierre Cloutier At 08:29 PM 29 11 2006, you wrote: I tried map my family tree but could not get it to map more than a couple of places of origin, so I uninstalled it. I manually entered my places in Google maps, and it put placemarkers for me. I just got the Legacy version, but since I've now got my most important maps done I've no real reason to use it - particularly if you can't specify which events you want it to plot. Progeny Software does not sell any products that compete with Millenia's Legacy. Progeny's philosophy is to complement our business partners' products by offering add-on graphics programs that leverage our customers' investment in their genealogy data.
