[LegacyUG] List for pictures

2007-03-16 Thread Pat Jones
Is there a simple (or any way) to view/print a list of what
pictures are associated with which individuals? I'm trying to
clean up an imported datatbase making certain the named census
for each individual is correct. In most cases, I haven't found a
way to make the pictures big enough to read the names on the
pictures of the census.

I'm afraid there isn't as but I do not really see why you cannot achieve
your aim. If you go to the source picture there is a zoom button which
enlarges the image. There is also given there the path and file name of the
image

One point though if your images are too big they don't always show up so you
may have to reduce the size of the original.

Well there actually is but difficult to find as it's not among the Reports

Print the Picture List from View > Scrapbook

You have a lot of different options of what to include.

Thanks to Ron and Cathy. Cathy, I will tuck you piece of

I had been editing for about 6 hours solid - much too long for

Cathy,

That doesn't produce the sort of list I was thinking of viz. given the file
name find a list of the individuals/events etc where it is used. I am slowly
looking at a reasonable way of doing this in Open Office. At present I can
think of a longish way but am looking for a short cut.

Hi Ron,

Isn't it in the right order for you? However, my initial point was
that there was a way to print a list of photos and who was using them
even if it isn't perfect.

It gives Picture file name then lists where it is used and who by -
provided you've chosen the right options.

Examples
E:\My Pictures\Family
Originals\cemeteries\sherborne_cemetery_location_of_martha_guppy.jpg

  Burial Picture: Martha OSMENT [307]

E:\My Pictures\Legacy Pictures\bell clark\bell004b_alt_clifton_st_house.jpg
Event Picture: Residence: Peter Albany "Albany" BELL [545]

E:\My Pictures\Legacy Pictures\bell clark\bell004b_alt_clifton_st_house.jpg
Birth Picture: Edith Beryl Joyce "Joyce" HARRIS [10]

E:\My Pictures\Legacy Pictures\1871 Census\1871_guppy_john_rg10_2019_36_4.jpg
Picture: Event: Source Detail: Martha OSMENT [307]

E:\My Pictures\Legacy Pictures\1871 Census\1871_guppy_john_rg10_2019_36_4.jpg
Picture: Birth: Source Detail: Martha OSMENT [307]

E:\My Pictures\Legacy Pictures\1871 Census\1871_guppy_john_rg10_2019_36_4.jpg
Picture: Name: Source Detail: Mary "Polly" R. GUPPY [309]

Are you wanting to be able to choose a particular picture and then
get a list for just that picture?

Hi Cathy,

Yes, enter the file name of a picture and see *all* the instances where the
picture is used (which btw is what I thought the OP was after - but my mind
may have been channelled because of my working on my own question). With
censuses obviously this could involve many individuals.

Re: [LegacyUG] List for pictures

2007-03-17 Thread ronald ferguson

Marg,

Not really although you will find that the pictures become disassociated
with Legacy as Legacy only saves the path. This is no big deal as Clicking
opting to search for yourself then clicking on one when you get the "Picture
Not Found" message will teach Legacy where to look.

I do tend to use more thqan one though as I separate censuses etc separate
from pictures.

Re: [LegacyUG] List for pictures

2007-03-17 Thread Cathy

Hi Marg,
I assume you mean your pictures are in many different folders.
I try to keep pictures attached to Legacy in sub folders of the one
folder. This keeps them separate from other pictures on my computer
(including larger copies of pics I have attached to Legacy).

It certainly makes it easier to shift from one computer to another.

The backup multimedia files will find and zip together the pictures
from all over your hard drive but this could make for a very large
file and you still have the issue of unzipping it (extracting the
files) on another computer.

If you shift the pictures after you've attached them in Legacy,
you'll have to help Legacy find them again. If you change their
names, you'll have even more work to do and it may be easier simply
to re-attach and then purge unfound pics from Legacy. The place to
help Legacy refind moved pics is Options > Customise - Locations Tab.
Either enter all the new paths or use the Test Multimedia paths
button and follow the directions on screen when a photo isn't found.

Hi Marg,
I assume you mean your pictures are in many different folders.

Thanks for that great tip. I have just printed out my list of pictures and note

If I move them all into one file will that cause any problems?
