RE: [LegacyUG] Indicating ancestors by colour

2006-12-06 Thread ronald ferguson

Phil, I have always found that they work, not withstanding the version.

You do not say how you tried to set them so:

1. Options>Customise>View and check Ancestor Colour Coding then Save - this
will give you the coloured boxes on the name pahels for your g parents etc.

2. Tools>Set Relationship (from whomsoever you wish) then
2a. Tools>Set Direct Line as Preferred

It does work as I have just changed all mine and put them back again.

Dear all,

I have just downloaded the latest version.

Even on broadband I was clearly competing with all of you, judging by the
slow crawl of the download!

Could some kind person suggest what I might be doing wrong?

I am trying to do two things and neither seems to be working.

I have set the necessary options (I think!)

1) to show up members of my tree who are ancestors

2) getting the four grandparents' colours to show

Neither option is working with the latest version nor did it with the
previous one (.110)

I have set two options, is there a third which i have managed to overlook?

OR, is this a current "buglet"?

Many thanks

Ron,

Thank you for that.

Yes, sorry not to have spelt out what I did.

I did both those two things!

Funny!

Well, no big deal!

I wonder if there is another option that can
interfere with them working happily.

I'll play around with a few more

The 1-2-3 tag option is set and I know not what
it does, so I'll start by unsetting that one!

Thanks for confirming it works for you.

Will it let you say, manually select all emigrant ancestors from France and
color them green?

Then once you've colored all the emigrant ancestors green, is there a way to
specifically select all the people you colored green, for instance, to
export to a GEDCOM for a mapping project?

Will it also let you color code all six lineages who lived in Acadia a
single color?

Re: [LegacyUG] Indicating ancestors by colour

2006-12-08 Thread Brian/Support
The Ancestor Colours use a system of colour coding your direct ancestors
developed by Mary E.V. Hill. There is a description of the system in
the help files. In essence though each of your grandparents are assigned
one of four colours. All the ancestors from each of those four people
are then coloured so you can tell which of the four lines you are in at
a glance.

Note though that if you are also tracking collateral branches in your
tree, like your spouses ancestors, they are not on any of your four
coloured branches so people on those lines will have no colour code. The
same applies to siblings of your direct ancestors so grand aunts, grand
uncles or their descendants will not have colours either.

Did you click on the check box to turn on the option? Who was the person

However, you can assign a Tag instead of a color to ancestors who emigrated
from France if your purpose of using the color green was to identify them.
Then you can pull them up in a list of their own or select them for a separate
report.

of Ancestors". The name in the box will be the starting individual for whom the
colors are applied. To change the individual, click the "change" button, to the
right of the name. Your name list should appear. Decide on an individual to
change to, either by name or by the RIN. After you have selected, click "Apply
Ancestor Colors", and you should be all set.

I did have it checked. But when I go to any of my grandparents and click on
Tools > Apply Ancestor Colors, it puts the whole line as blue. I have tried
it on each of the four grandparents.

You said, "You can change the start point for the colour system using Tools
> Set
Ancestor Colours." When I click on Tools, there is no selection for "Set
Ancestor Colors." But it does say Apply Ancestor Colors.

I'm still lost.

Paul,

Did you click on the check box to turn on the option? Who was the person
selected in family view when you did that? If ancestor colours were not
on and you turn them on using the options screen the starting person for
the colours is the person selected at the time.

You can change the start point for the colour system using Tools > Set
Ancestor Colours.

Re: [LegacyUG] Indicating ancestors by colour

2006-12-09 Thread Richard Van Wasshnova
I wondered why I suddenly started seeing ancestor colors with vers 117 &
118. I had done everything EXCEPT Options > Customise. Thanks Cathy for
solving the mystery.

To get Ancestor Colours to show.
Tools > Set Ancestor Colours.

The new version is supposed to have removed the necessity to also go to
Options > Customise. I haven't yet downloaded it so haven't checked.
