[LegacyUG] Recording Illegitimate Children
I have an anscestor Ann Hubbard who led a merry old life!! The information I have is that Ann Hubbert married Charles Ingamells in 1818 but he died in 1823, but they had no children. She then had a child with Samuel Clarke (Mary) and twins (Abraham and Isaac) with Willam King - but did not marry either. she then had children with George Atterby in 1836 and 1838 and eventually married him in 1849. She is with George Atterby and several of the children on the 1841 census, including Abraham aged 11. My question is how do I record the children of Samuel Clark and William king without setting them up as husbands? Thanks in anticipation. Re: [LegacyUG] Surname Case Problem
Ron, That is not a bug Ron. The whole concept of a master list is that there is only one copy of a surname. If you want two versions of a surname you have to have both entered in the master list in order for Legacy to be able to choose them. Re: [LegacyUG] Showing Gender on Descendant Report?
For the Descendant Chart (not in the charting application but in the main Legacy program from the Reports menu), in the Report Options dialog box the Child Status checkbox is disabled (along with most of the others). Am I missing something? On Sun, Apr 18, 2010 at 9:22 PM, Ron Ferguson ronfergy@tiscali.co.ukwrote: Paul, I don't think so. However, if you add Male, Female, Unknown to the Child Status list, this will appear after the details of the person as eg. (Male), and in Report Options set it to show Child Status. This is, perhaps, not ideal as I imagine most of the individuals will be the start of a line or an island, in which case you will have to give the individual unknowm parents (if you don't want them to show after setting the status delete the parents, and in OptionsCustomiseData Format set it to leave Unknowns as Blank). Unfortunately there is still a bug which means that the Unknown will show in ceratin parts of the report. You could also set the relationship to Parents as Son, Daughter, Unknown Sex, but I don't think this looks as good. Re: [LegacyUG] attaching a pdf file to an Event
Connie, Legacy can only use picture files in webpages. It does not pick up document files such as PDFs. in order to include a PDF file as part of the webpage you would have to manually enter the webpage file on the page where you want the PDF to be available. Re: [LegacyUG] Web page creation
Hi Brian, I am looking for basic info on the web page creation feature. When I create a web page using Legacy and save it,do I then download to an online server or creation site.Don't know if I am explaining this right, does the Legacy web page creation feature automatically place your data on a web page or do I need something else to put it on the web? Legacy will create the web pages and save them on your computer. What you choose to do after that is up to you. :-) If you want to put them on the web for others to find, you need to upload the pages to a server that does that. Choices to make there, too - are you going to pay an ISP to host your site, or use a free one? As you can see from my signature below, I use Rootsweb's Freepages for my web site. I don't have Legacy-produced pages there, but I could if I wanted. Not only is Freepages free, but there's good peer-to-peer support to be had, too, so you're not alone when you have a question. http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index.cgi?op=showpage=freagree.htm You may also want to make use of the WUL group (Webs Using Legacy, if I recall correctly) if you find your questions going beyond the creating of the pages with Legacy. http://uk.groups.yahoo.com/group/WUL/ Although I don't have Legacy-produced web pages on my site, I have made use of them today. I've generated a set of pages for one half of my family, and burned them to a DVD to share with two aunts. I find this the easiest method for sharing my data with close family, who want to know everything I've found out about the family we have in common. In the past I've tried sending them a Legacy file for them to use in the free edition of the program, but they didn't want to be that involved and didn't use it. The web pages are excellent for that. They know how to browse a web page, so I don't have to teach them anything. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/ Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
Re: [LegacyUG] Surname Case Problem
Hi Laura, is there any way to all CAPS on some instances of a surname and on others, just regular? In FTM, I had my direct line in ALL CAPS. All others with the same surname were typed regularly. You've already had responses that have told you that yes, you can have Sansone and SANSONE in your surnames list, but they will be separate, unattached names. That may not be what you want. Did you know that you have other methods for highlighting your direct line? You don't have to rely on capital letters here. You can have your direct line showing in bold lettering. Options Customize Data Format Indicate direct-line children in lists (bold) You can have relationships showing above the central couple in Family View. Tools Set Relationships You can put an asterisk against a preferred child in any family. It's automatically applied to the first child entered, but it is quickly changed if desired. Right-click on a child in Family View and select Children's Settings; select the child you want and click on Set to Preferred Child. Hope this helps. :-) Kind Regards, Wendy Howard -- Kaiwaka, Northland, New Zealand http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/~wendyh65/ http://freepages.genealogy.rootsweb.com/%7Ewendyh65/ Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp
RE: [LegacyUG] Surname Case Problem
I put the Given name in CAPS and have the preferred direct line bolded as well. That makes them easy to identify and avoids the problems you have encountered with putting the Surname in CAPS.
