Re: [LegacyUG] Error 3022

2011-05-10 Thread Sherry/Support
In Options . Customize > View, right click on the tab itself to reset
the options on that page to default. Then reselect to display the
numbers.

If you are still having problems, please contact
sa...@legacyfamilytreee.com so we can have a good support trail for
this issue.

We need to know the build number (full version number showing in the
Updates section of the Legacy Home tab) and which version of Windows
you're using.

If you have Windows 7 or Vista, make sure that Legacy is installed per
the instructions on our website at www.LegacyFamilyTree.com

Re: [LegacyUG] Focus Groups & Family Group Sheets -- program with Index at end of report

2011-05-10 Thread Brian/Support
I could not duplicate your problem. I got a name index at the end of all
the reports. I suggest you try the remedies suggested by Sherry. Also
make sure you are using the most recent version of Legacy, 7.5.0.77

Re: [LegacyUG] Another name for.....

2011-05-10 Thread Brian/Support
The Another name for sentence is hard coded into the report any time you
include alternate names (AKAs) for people in the report. To exclude the
alternate names go to the Report Options > Include tab and remove the
check mark from the alternate given and surnames box.

2011-05-10 Thread hwedhlor
I don't see any issue with phones or cameras in the courts
here. My wife just served on a jury in Maricopa County
Superior Court, and was able to take her iPhone there. More
than one other juror had an iPhone, and one, who happened to
be an attorney, had an iPad. I've never had an issue with
my iPhones at the FHC in Mesa, which is the second largest
in the world. Nor have I had a problem at the State
Archives. Often I can use the CamScanner app, or JotNot
Pro, to photograph, and OCR documents on site.

Thanks. I also have the G2 (T-Mobile), so that is good to know. I’m going to
have to download it. Just to handy not too. Especially for $15.

I was one of the beta testers and I am using the full production version -
currently on the G2 Phone form HTC/T-Mobile.

I don't regret the $15 that I paid for it. I do find it useful enough. You
are correct in that making data changes can be a little difficult on a phone
screen. Of course that isn't so much an Android issues as it is a device
issue. If you have an iPhone you will have a small screen too (relative to an
iPad). Of course there are Android based tablets with screen sizes similar to
the iPad so history is starting to repeat itself and people are starting to
consider "Apple vs. Android" (vs. Apple vs. MS-DOS)

So, hardware/software platform aside, I do use Families primarily as a portable
reference tool rather than a data entry tool. Screen size is not the issue for
me but rather I decided early on that I wanted to use Legacy as a single point
of entry for all data rather than try to regularly sync back and forth between
various applications. So, if I'm at a genealogy library somewhere, I use
Families to keep all the pertinent information close at hand to assist me with
my research and then I key it in later directly to Legacy. That's what works
for me but I'm sure others are happily making data changes on their Android
phone or Tablet and successfully synching them back to Legacy. As a beta
tester, I did test that functionality and it worked fine. Incidentally, I
originally was testing on the HTC/G1 which was the first Android phone on the
market and it worked will there. Even better when I finally upgraded my phone.

Re: [LegacyUG] Families iPhnoe app

2011-05-10 Thread Noddie
Thankyou John for your wonderful explanation.

I feel this is the right program for me. I was just wondering how I
'update to the legacy database to reflect all of my changes made'

I am using a mac with parallels and use Legacy family tree latest
version. I do not expect Families to be the same as Legacy but
am I right in saying it is like a holding/viewing program, and from
there
I need to use 'Families Sync free program' to upload my data to
the ipad. It seems to me I have to upload to Families, and then
to the sync program? to view it on my ipad.

Appreciate your time with this, before I go ahead an buy it at
$19 for the ipad. What a clever invention.

Regards
Gwen

Re: [LegacyUG] Families iPhnoe app

2011-05-10 Thread hwedhlor
  Gwen,

I am running the Families app on both an iPhone 3Gs and an
iPad 2, and I heartily recommend it. I was a beta for the
Families app when it was only available to run on the
iPhone. Running it on the iPad 2 offers an even better
display, and easier access to features due to the larger
visual format.

Please do not think of Families as a "version" of Legacy
Family Tree. Families was developed by an entirely
different company, to run under a completely different
operating system on totally different hardware than Legacy.
Having worked in the computer industry since 1965 I
understand that duplicating program features across hardware
and operating system boundaries is not a simple process.
The task is a bit like being asked to copy the Queen Mary,
but as a submarine, using plans written in a language you
don't speak or read. Passengers from the Queen Mary want
visit the bottom of the ocean in your submarine, but they
expect the same amenities they were used to enjoying on the
Queen Mary!

Rather than concentrate on which Legacy features are
"missing" from the Families app, I celebrate the fact that I
can now do field research, and document findings, without
having to carry a laptop. Navigating through my Legacy
databases with Families is done on a familiar user
interface, while the iPhone and iPad 2 allow me to
photograph documents found in the field.

Although Families will probably never duplicate the enormous
feature list of Legacy, Families does offer the user the
option to make fundamental data entries on the portable
Apple devices they choose to carry, then to update their
Legacy database to reflect all of those entries. The
creators of the Families app have proven to be very
supportive of their user base, and I look for them to add
features over time.

If you are a Legacy user, and own an iPhone, iPad, or iPod
Touch, you will find no better genealogy software than the
Families app for use on your Apple device.

There's Super Anti Spyware that does a great job of catching what all the other
programs miss and it's free too. I've used it before with Norton 360 and it
caught a bunch of junk it didn't. It may not be the cure for all things
harmful to your computer. They update it frequently too and the professional
paid for version is cheap.

I was going to post the link, but I know this is off topic and don't want to
pass around anymore links. The website is the same as the name without the

[LegacyUG] Error 3024

2011-05-10 Thread John Groome
All

I am running Legacy 7.5.0.77 on a Windows 7 laptop with my data files
sitting on an external hard drive.

When trying to attach a source to a record I get the message "Error saving
Source.Error 3024: Could not find file ''.Would you like to TRY IT AGAIN?"

On answering "yes" (and it may take two or three attempts) the source is
attached to the data record.

On saving the individual, the error "Error saving Source.Error 3024: Could
not find file ''.Would you like to TRY IT AGAIN?" appears.

Again, after two or three attempts the record saves.

On running check/repair another 3024 error appears "Error closing
files.Error 3024: Could not find file 'H:\Legacy\data\all.fdb'.Would you
like to TRY IT AGAIN?" followed by "Error closing files.
Error 3276: Invalid database object reference. Would you like to TRY IT
AGAIN?".

Neither "yes" or "no" have any effect so the only option is to "quit"

On re-opening Legacy everything seems to fine, but when I try to attach a
source to to a new individual the process starts again.

Has anyone any suggestions

[LegacyUG] Focus Groups & Family Group Sheets -- program with Index at end of report

2011-05-10 Thread Cathy-0
Can anyone else replicate this problem?

I've a project database which contains 17 small family trees. I have set up a
Focus Group for the specific 17 individual people who relate to the project.

I want to produce a report showing Family Group Sheets (FGS) for the 17 people
and their immediate families with an index at the end of the report of everyone
shown in the FGSs.

Yet when I produce the report on the screen, the last page of the report is
currently just a blank page and I do not get any index at the end of the report.

Now, occassionally in the past I have actually gotten a report of the 17 FGSs
with an index at the end. But this is the exception and not the norm.

So, is this problem something unique to me, to my PC, or is this a bug?

I would appreciate hearing from anyone who might try to replicate this problem.

With thanks,

Cathy-0

I guess you mean other internet/virus programs ? This mail certainly

I doubt any programs we install on our computer will monitor what's on
someone else's server.

They only prevent malware from coming across the internet to our computers.

Unless there's something new that I haven't heard about.

RE: [LegacyUG] Families iPhnoe app

2011-05-10 Thread Kirsten Bowman
Gwen:

You don't actually create a GEDCOM from your Legacy database; rather, there's a
(free) Families Sync program that goes on your desktop computer and handles the
transfer of data to and from your mobile device. And yes, you can edit the
data on your iPad but I don't find editing very convenient because the small
fields don't "unpinch" the way some sites or apps will, so extensive editing
would be (for me) fairly clumsy. Also, the Families version doesn't have all
of the features of Legacy on the PC. I'd love to clean up my Locations list
using the iPad, for example, but there's no "Show List" option at the Master
Location List and I'm hesitant to edit without knowing exactly who I'm
changing. There are a few more of my favorite Legacy features missing as well.
Families doesn't look or operate *exactly* like Legacy on the PC but I still
think it's a dandy little app and well worth the $15 even if you just want to
carry the data with you for reference as I do.

I was also wondering about an app for the iPad 2 which I could use in
conjunction with my Legacy family tree.
Would I be right in saying that 'Families' could be the one I would
use. Would it sync with my mac and my
windows side where 'Legacy' is.

I was hoping I could gedcom a file, and send it to my ipad and then be
able to view and edit records from
there? The site for the software does not explain the use of it very
well, it is only a viewer or a mobile
user friendly program where I could transfer my data to and then
transfer it back to my mac.
Thanks for your time

Gwen
