RE: [LegacyUG] Split View
Hi Sherry, Hope you had a wonderful Christmas…. I have done a reinstall of Legacy from the website. My problem remains however it is not how I first thought. It is not the split view that causes Legacy to freeze. It is the particular family file that I was trying to open that causes the freeze. My main file works fine and I can open it again in split view but if I try to open this one particular family file, by itself or in split view, that seems to cause the freeze. What do I need to do? I’m running Windows Vista. Re: [LegacyUG] missing multimedia files
When Legacy links to a multimedia file it stores the exact path to the file in your family file. For example C:Legacy\Pictures\UncleGeorge\aunt_millie.jpg. or C:\Documents and Settings\Username\Documents\Pictures\MyFamily\UncleGeorge\aunt_millie.jpg. Since you have changed computer and have all your multimedia on a new drive, probably with a different path on that drive you will have to point Legacy to the correct path(s). Go to Options Customize Locations Click the View List of Multimedia Locations button Select each file path in the list and use the change button Browse to the new location of that path on the separate drive where your pictures are now stored. Click OK to change the recorded file path. Repeat as needed for all the other paths Brian Customer Support Millennia Corporation br...@legacyfamilytree.com http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com -- On 28-Dec-12 05:55, Donna Newell wrote: I purchased a new computer and I am now experiencing a problem. Re: [LegacyUG] Unable to link a Source to the correct Event
That depends on you. You could try simply reinstalling the program in which case it will simply over-write to the same location and all the necessary files that the program uses. If that fixes your problem, so be it. If not, then you may need a clean install which can be a little time consuming depending on your level of computer skills. If you need help there; simply ask but we will need to know your skills. I may have a degree in computer science but I still can't read minds. We need to know what help is required when re-installing from scratch. Re: [LegacyUG] BRAND NEW? -- Spacing problem in .pdfs -- and in general Notes.
Hi Pat You may have received and answer by now, but in case you haven't, the problem appears to be with the original paragraph, where there are some codes between the words in some places that are not just the usual space. I don't know enough to identify what they are, but can see some when looking in MSWord with formatting marks displayed (Options/Display settings). However what I do when copying text with possible formatting problems is to paste into a text editer (Notepad) before copying and pasting into more sophisticated programs that may use the rogue codes. You end up wth only the text left in the pasted copy. That might help you here to ensure the text is clean. RE: [LegacyUG] trouble exporting correct names
I finally got time to do this, and it worked. Thank you Dave, and also Jim re splitting files, and Carl for your suggestions. I'm glad I finally signed up for this list. I'll have more questions I'm sure. Re Advanced deleting, if anyone else does it, be careful which # you tag the people you want deleted; I tagged the default #1, which also identified my WWI vet era people. Changed it to 5 and got the correct people. I figured a focus group export an individual (me) and entire family line, instead of export entire file which would grab the orphans, would delete the orphan families. But, when I did it, the orphan disconnected families were still in there. How do I do this? If the ones you want to get rid of have been disconnected (unlinked) from your main tree, then use: View Tree Finder to see all the unconnected trees in your family file. Note that you should refresh this list every time you use it. In Tree Finder you can select whole trees and Tag all the individuals contained in each. Then by going to Advanced Deleting you can delete everyone that has that tag set. I'd like to try it but where do you host these web sites? Rootsweb provide free space. See http://accounts.rootsweb.ancestry.com/index.cgi?op=showpage=freagree.htm to apply for space there, and http://freepages.rootsweb.ancestry.com/directory/genealogy.html to find other people's pages. You'll find quite a variety of sites there.
