Jane,

May I suggest that you take a look at my tutorial at:
http://www.fergys.co.uk/Blogs/Y-DNA_Search.php

Whilst this is mainly aimed at those requiring trees for DNA comparisons, I
think it may be close to what you are looking for, if not it may be
adaptable. Perhaps you could let us know.

I'm not quite sure what you did by importing the Legacy 7 files. Once
you have upgraded to v8 and try to open a v7 file you will be asked if you
want to convert it, with the option of making a copy.

However, if you can find the LEG8PAT.fdb using file explorer then you
should be able to find it with Legacy. Go to File/Open, navigate to the
folder where LEG8PAT.fdb can be found, click on the file, and click on
 Open.

Perhaps you were clicking on the blue L in the upper left corner - this
normally shows the recent files opened, and there is a chance that you had
not actually opened the second file?? Navigate as above, making sure the
 file has an .fdb extension.

I'm confused then.

Are you saying you need the siblings of everyone on your
direct line?

If that's what you need, try the ancestor book option with
yourself as the primary person on-screen.

RE: [LegacyUG] Copy Role Sentences

2014-02-10 Thread Kurt Kneeland
It works between roles in the same event as well as between events.

When you create the new role of wife, the default sentences are displayed.
Click the Reset/Load button. You can then choose which event (can choose the
same event as your current or another one) and which role in that event that
you want to copy the sentences from. All 8 sentence definitions are copied
from the selected role to your new role.

Only difference from what you are asking is that instead of copying the old
role and then renaming, you create the new role and then copy the sentences
from an existing role.

RE: [LegacyUG] One Direct Line Report

2014-02-10 Thread Kurt Kneeland
I'm not sure which report you want or how much detail, but try using tagging to
mark just the individuals you want included and then create the report you want
for just the tagged individuals. On the Relationship Calculator, under
Options, you can tag the individuals in the displayed relationship chain. You
can also tag using Advanced Tagging. You can do a Descendants tag from your
ancestor, and then do an Ancestor Report of your tagged ancestors.

There have been some previous discussions of similar cases that required
exporting tagged individuals to a separate database in order to get the report
exactly as desired.

If you go to Report menu Other Source Citations you can set up what
you want from the Include and Options tabs. One of the options is
to Include the source detail File ID. is that what you are looking for?

As a matter of interest the Help File for Source Labels points to a
Source Labels report, which does not appear to exist. What is probably
intended is to point to the Source Citations report which is one of the
Other reports.

Either the whole Help item and its index should refer to Source
Citations Report, or the report title should be changed to Source Labels
report. Considering the content of that report, it would make more
sense to amend the Help file (8-0545)

Mike,
Never thought, whats in my routers thumb drive, could be vulnerable,
(going to clean it up now)
that's one thing I don't like about cloud storage.
I think, in the end I'll sink by copying and pasting through the
thumb drive, from one comp to another.
With out images It'll, it might take 4 seconds, I can handle it.

My wireless router has a port for a memory stick, which I use to

Could I keep my family file in my routers memory stick,

I assume it would operate like dropbox, shouldn't work on one, while the
 other is open.
If you do this, be very, very careful with the way you set up security on
 the
router. The memory stick (thumb drive, flash drive whatever...) is usually
treated as a network drive and can be accessed from the other side of the
 router
i.e. the big, bad Internet world with all its' hackers.

Click (right or left) on the + in the upper right corner of the Children
window OR in the white space above the column, in the header marked
Children. You should get a pop-up window with 6 choices - select Link to
and existing son or Link to an existing daughter - the Name List will
open allowing you to choose the person you want to link to.

Right clicking anywhere in the childs area will return add a brother and
add a sister among other choices. I do not see a plus, but there is a logo
that displays the screen by which you can sort order, select child status,
and edit each child, among other things. I had never seen that logo before.
When you have an empty slot, clicking there returns add or link to a child,
among other options.

When you have set the display for full screen, 6 children can be added, but
with partial screen selected you only get 5 per column.

The problem there is - I get all my ancestor lines. I just want the
line from me to my 7th great Eippy grandfather. I need it to show all
those people inbetween - spouses, siblings of the direct ancestor, but
only ones descended from the 7 ggfather down to me (and their spouses
siblings) , not the other ancestor lines (of which I have more than 70.

thanks for the idea.

If that's what you need, try the ancestor book option with

2014-02-10 Thread Jane Sarles
That sounds like an interesting project, but I am not sure I am at the
level of expertise that I can accomplish it.

I will try, but I have tried to work with the Relationship Calculator
and haven't quite figured it out. I am unable to find a way to clear it
and start over, for example.

I wonder if tagging may be the answer, however. If it is possible to do
an ancestor report and select only tagged people, that might do it. I
will check on that.

I'm not sure which report you want or how much detail, but try using tagging
to mark just the individuals you want included and then create the report you
want for just the tagged individuals. On the Relationship Calculator, under
Options, you can tag the individuals in the displayed relationship chain.
You can also tag using Advanced Tagging. You can do a Descendants tag from
your ancestor, and then do an Ancestor Report of your tagged ancestors.

There have been some previous discussions of similar cases that required
exporting tagged individuals to a separate database in order to get the
 report exactly as desired.

[LegacyUG] Search/Replace feature?

those names will sort to the END of the list instead of the top.

I can't make it do it. When I leave the SURNAME field in

What am I doing wrong?

I rarely use the Report tab to get to reports, rather I use the Report

Curious then that there is no way I can find to get from Help files to
