[LegacyUG] Removing Temple Data

2015-04-30 Thread brittongen
We use 7.5 De Luxe and Win 7. I recently needed files from 8 to 15 years back,
finding some apparently archived in 2007 in Legacy native format, versions 5 or
6. Several appeared to convert successfully to 7.5, navigation OK to material
of interest, but when I ran file repair prior to use/merge, Temple data errors
were reported, plus a list of Temples. I assume that I was originally given the
files as PAF gedcoms, and the LDS content propagated quietly until it reached
7.5. I'm not LDS, so it's information that I should not have, and certainly
should not pass on. Is there a convenient way to delete or remove it? The
numbers are in the low thousands, so even making new gedcoms and using a text
editor isn't real appealing unless find-and-replace-all could be used to
quietly disable the relevant tag(s).

The advice here:
http://support.legacyfamilytree.com/article/AA-00385/11/Error-Messages-Problems/Fix-This-Temple.html
requires that I revert to an earlier file version without the problem. None
available. Repeated repair cycles do seem to clear the problem, but presumably
valid Temple data may remain.

My suggestion would be to download and install a much earlier version of Legacy
and use that to turn the Temple stuff off. Then, the saved file (hopefully
without Temple) could be read by a recent version of Legacy and hopefully there
will be no Temple data in the file.

[LegacyUG] Add Event/Fact

2015-04-30 Thread Gillian Häkli
Is there any way I can get back or find somewhere the original list of
predefined event names and facts? Over the years I’ve added events and facts to
various people in my own way. As a result, the list is getting out of hand. I
want to tidy things up, which means starting all over again for most of the
people. I’ve already deleted a lot of my invented facts and events and am
perfectly happy to delete the lot. Only, first, I’d like the original list.

Regards,
Gillian

If you're not LDS and don't want to see the LDS information, just go
to Options > Customize > General tab and deselect the LDS display

It will still be in your file and a heck of a lot easier than trying
to remove what's there!

Gillian,

There is also another way to do this. Legacy starts with a few built-in lists.
These include common Source Types, Event Definitions, Marriage Statuses, Child
Statuses, To-Do Categories, and Temple Names. To restore master lists to their
original contents:

1. Click on File > File Maintenance > List Cleanup.

2. The first screen you will advise yo to backup. Click the Proceed button.

3. The next screen is the main Master Lists Cleanup screen.

4. Under "Keep/Restore Original Values for" select Event Definitions by
clicking on its checkbox.

5. Click the Proceed button and confirm with Yes that you want to reset the
Event Sentences you their default wording.

6. When finished click the OK button.

Many thanks Everyone, including Robert57p, for all your help. I'll probably
get along fine this time by keeping the Master Event Definition List open
beside me and checking and updating my events and facts against that. Good
idea of Robert's to distinguish my inventions. But I'll make note of Jim's
advice. It will be useful for other clean-ups.

Gillian,

There is also another way to do this. Legacy starts with a few
built-in lists. These include common Source Types, Event Definitions, Marriage
Statuses, Child Statuses, To-Do Categories, and Temple Names. To restore master
lists to their original contents:

1. Click on File > File Maintenance > List
Cleanup.

2. The first screen you will advise yo to backup. Click the Proceed
button.

3. The next screen is the main Master Lists Cleanup screen.

4.
Under "Keep/Restore Original Values for" select Event Definitions by clicking on
its checkbox.

5. Click the Proceed button and confirm with Yes that you want
to reset the Event Sentences you their default wording.

6. When finished
click the OK button.

I put a period in front of events that I've created. That let's me know that I
may need to look at them more closely (such as to tweak sentence structure).

I understand this resetting to default wording applies only to the
current family and not to other family files. Is this correct? Does
each family have its own set of sentence definitions, or is there one
universal set?

Hi Boyd,

Each file has its own set of sentence definitions (provided you're not
using the Legacy defaults on all files).

Re: [LegacyUG] Add Event/Fact

2015-04-30 Thread Rune Mattsson
I made a copy of my FDB database, renamed it to MDB (Access) imported it in
Open Office (i don’t have MS Access)
After that I copied the tables tblET (EventTypes) and tblRO (Roles) into
spreadsheet

Then I have all Event Definitions with their roles and sentences in easy to
read tables.

But it would be nice if there was a possibility to print/save the tables as
text direct from Legacy, the events and sentences are very flexible but
quite hard to handle!

Best Regards
Rune
