Re: [LegacyUG] Media Relink

2017-04-29 Thread Cathy Pinner

Madeleine,
It seems in this case it would be quicker to relink them yourself by
going to the gallery where they are linked. This information is on the
missing media list.
When you click on the icons for the missing media, you get the choice to
use the Media Relinker or to find them yourself.
You may want to copy them out of your Family Tree Maker Media folder and
link to them in a sub-folder of your Legacy Media.

When using the Relinker, you just specify the Drive(s) you want to
search (e.g., C:, D:). Normally, you would just select the C: drive.
The Relinker will search the entire drive to find your picture files.
When complete, you can choose to have them copied into the Legacy
default Media file location. You cannot specify a folder to search in
the Relinker, just a Drive.

The Family Tree Maker file could be an issue — that sounds like a
database and not a picture file. Legacy will only link picture files
with an extension of JPEG, PNG & document files like PDF, Word.
Normally, you would only link picture files. So, I am not sure what
you mean by FTM file??

Re: [LegacyUG] Descendant chart

2017-04-29 Thread Cathy Pinner

Mike,

There's an option in Legacy Charting in version 9 to change Date formats.
See Help and Options - Chart Options - Date Format tab.

This is not in Legacy 8 charting.

If you've only recently purchased Legacy 8 (since 25 Nov 2016) you are
eligible for a free upgrade to 9. If you didn't get the email, contact
Sales.

Thank you so much, Jenny. I moved up to version 8 (but haven't
purchased 9 yet), converted my family from backup, and both your
suggestions worked beautifully. In fact, I can even leave those
individuals set to "invisible", then check or uncheck a single box in
the chart options to display or suppress the invisibles. This is neat!

Now I have one more question. I can change the date format within
Legacy (e.g. to a U.S. style 4/29/2017), but this doesn't seem to get
passed through to the charting program. In my charts, I can't seem to
get anything but the British-style 29 Apr 2017. Is there a chart
option to change the date format?

Thanks again!

Yep, it looks like they added stuff and the codes for the search fields
changed. Was hoping someone had a template to convert them back or adjust
to the new.

Are you customizing the built-in searches? If so you should save your
customization as a new search name so it will not be overwritten by
future updates. There was quite a lot of work done on internet searches
by one of the beta testers during Legacy 9 testing so a lot of the old
search files contain new search strings.

It's not possible to combine 2 Sources (merge into 1) that have been
created with different templates. I think you will either have to leave
your "old" FAG Sources as they are and use the new template from now on,
or create a new Source for each person, using the new template, then
delete the old one.

There is no way to create a report by individual. That would be very
helpful for a lot of people. You may want to submit a suggestion to Legacy.
Click on the "Make a Suggestion" link in the Support section of the Legacy

labelled "Standard" along the row marked Descendant when selecting the

[LegacyUG] Media and document files

2017-04-29 Thread Ian Thomas
I have a general question about linked media files and other linked documents,
which partly arises from Alan Thompson's recent post about the lf.jpg file or
multiple files (news to me). I certainly don't want them (lf.jpg) attached to
Legacy-generated outputs.

Usually, I have scanned my documents to PDF and my photographs to JPG or PNG
file formats (sometimes, as groups of small photos, to PDF). At this point I
haven't wanted to have Legacy FT create "albums" or "books" or its other
document or web outputs that might include my images or relevant documents, but
may soon want to have (A4-sized) PDF documents, some of them multi-page, within
some Legacy-generated document output.
What are the options for doing that?
My practice is to save PDF outputs from the Trove newspaper scans (Australia),
rather than JPG images, and also separately to have for each its NLA scan URL
and its text content (my accurate transcription) in a plain text file. This
generates a lot of files. I'm not sure yet what I will do to incorporate them
into the overall Legacy data collection.

Does anyone know if there is any way to exclude this file from the report? The
