The original message to the list is in the attachment.

This action is required because of the DMARC Reject/Quarantine Policy
imposed by some email providers. Users who want to send messages
without conversion to attachments should use a different email address
for their subscription.

Known providers for free email accounts whose emails do not require
this conversion include gmail.com and hotmail.com. Many other email
providers will also work but you will have to give them a try.--- Begin Message ---

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location List maps

2017-08-30 Thread CE WOOD
And, NEVER trust just Google or Bing maps. Entering a latitude and longitude
will not necessarily return the exact location. That is the main reason many of
the cemeteries on FindAGrave are wrong - someone trusted what Google or Bing
returned without looking at the map, and pinpointing the churchyard!

It would be useful if a better implementation was also substituted - consistent
with the way that both Bing Maps and Google Maps return the LatLong to the user
on their maps (which are different, as you would know).

In my opinion, the current method in Legacy for manually inputting a location
is a nonsense. And if the nlocation name inpout returns a not-found, I always
end up somewhere off the coast of the USA.

I saw a post from someone on this list, in the last week or so, who had 3
browser windows open to effectively do accurate and reproducible locations to

No, it's still being worked on. It probably won't be in the next update as
there's a new beta to test some FamilySearch stuff and that is likely to go to
public release before the mapping is sorted.

I assume Legacy cares enough about the many users with earlier versions of
LegacyFamilyTree so that your fix will return that invaluable tool to them!

[LegacyUG] Web Publishing

2017-08-30 Thread Wendy Edwards
Hi

has anyone any experience with Legacy and publishing on one of the free web-hosting sites, such as blogger, blogspot (or whatever you have found)? How did it go?

I am particularly concerned about the ease of updating when I have new data. I guess the iniial loading won't be a trivial exercise.

TIA

I see so many complaints about the new Legacy I just have to add my 2 cents
worth.
I am absolutely in love with the new program.  I've been able to find extensive
information thru the "Find A Grave" & the "Family Search" additions.  It has
re-inspired me in my genealogy searches and I couldn't be happier with the
"MyHeritage" access.
Because of the new info I've had to merge many locations in my files.  (Reason
for complaint?)  Nope, while I was adding United Kingdom locales I found and
added MANY "Battles of..." information to the individuals that died in the
battle, famous and not so well known.  What an addition the the history of our
families.
I have been unrelated families added to my database since a friend and I are
researching families with roots in our small county in West Virginia.  What a
joy to learn again what I didn't understand when I was in school learning that
dry information.
Thanks, Legacy/Ancestry, A whole new world has been opened for me.  I'm in my
late 70s and feel young again with so much to do.  "God put me on this earth to
accomplish a certain number of things; at this rate I have so much to do, I'm
never gonna die!"

I just completed a manual mere of two individuals and got a pop-up telling me I
need to do a "Reset Relationships." It doesn't tell me how to do that and I
can find nothing in the help index under either "Reset" or "Relationships"!

Re: [LegacyUG] Reset relationships

2017-08-30 Thread Bob Austen
Hi Pat,

In ‘Help’ under ‘relationships’ it points out: ‘The Set Relationships window is
reached by choosing Set Relationships from the Tools

 tab of the Ribbon

 bar.

Go to: Tools/Set relationships/select the starting person/set relationships

You may wish to ‘clear relationships’ prior to setting the relationships for
the new person. Normally I have the relationships set to myself as the
starting person but you can change this to anyone else if you are focusing on a
particular line.

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Location List maps

2017-08-30 Thread Cathy Pinner

Ian,

I've mapped the majority of my locations and I haven't manually input
the coordinates once - if that's what you mean.
Otherwise are you complaining that you have to type in a location? Seems
unreasonable to me. You'd still have to type even if it were possible to
have a complete list of all world locations for the last few centuries.
The geo-database was a try at a list of current locations. To me it was
so unsuccessful I haven't installed it for years.

What the new API will facilitate is yet to be seen.

I don't understand the wish for things to be even more easily entered. I
expect to research locations. I learn heaps more than just where it is
on the map.

I already often use Google Maps in Legacy, but on three screens:
One with Legacy and the second with Google Maps open.
And on the third, I've excel where I convert the usual standard
decimal coordinates to the non-standard string of numbers used in Legacy.

And then copy and paste.
Wish I could do it right in Legacy on one screen
