Re: [LegacyUG] 1935

2020-01-14 Thread Brian Kelly
There are actually three variations in the response to the question
about where a person was living on 1 Apr 1935:

Same Place meant the person was living in the same town in 1935. It
meant they had moved within the town between 1935 and 1940.

The entry same house meant the person had not moved. Note that in urban
areas there was a place to enter the address where the family was
enumerated.

If they were not living in the same town then the place where they were
living would be entered.

The answers received are what the person answering the Question "In what place
did the person live on April 1, 1935" told the census taker. The suggestion to
check the age of the person that the "Same Place" refers to is a good one.
Census enumerators did take short cuts and filled in answers before hand.

Check the hand writing to be sure that each persons "same place" is not a
mirror image of the ones before and after the family of interest.

2020-01-14 Thread Helen Gillespie
The 1940 census asked where the person was living in 1935 and frequently they
had not moved - therefore the „same place“. Occasionally they may have moved
Which would be given. Possibly because this was deep into the Depression- or it
was turning around a bit by then and whether their circumstances had changed
radically from 1930.

My best guess

One other to look out for on that 1935 - Same Place entry. Double check the
date of birth of the individual, some census forms will indicate "Same Place"
when that person wasn't even born then.  They might have been born in 1935, but
after 1 Apr. I have come across that several times.

Hi Trevor,The other responses you have received about 1935 are correct. What I
do, is in the Event/Fact: I make it "Residence", Date: 1 Apr 1935 (that being
the date they are asking about, and the official date of the 1940 census),
Place: I enter the same location that is shown on the 1940 census. (City.
County, State or Country)
I hope this helps a bit.

You are looking at a 1940 census record. One of the questions is asks for
the 1935 residence. If they lived in the same place as they did in 1940,
the reply is "Same Place".

That is the answer to the question, “Where were you living in 1935?“ When
it says same place that means that wherever they were living in 1940 they
were also living in that same place in 1935.

Thank you Brian

Funnily enough, after I had sent that email I remembered the cloud back-up
feature and solved the problem.

Re: [LegacyUG] syncing my Legacy tree in 2 different laptops

2020-01-14 Thread Brian Kelly

To update your Legacy file on the 1st laptop you will need to do
File > Restore from local file using the backup file you made when
exiting Legacy on the 2nd laptop.

If you made a backup to the Legacy Cloud on the second laptop you can
use File > Restore from Legacy Cloud to restore the Legacy file.

Brian Kelly

P.S. You can have the Deluxe features on both your laptops. Simply note
your customer number in File > File Properties on the laptop with Deluxe
Legacy. Use that customer number to transform your Free version to the
Deluxe. The Legacy terms of use allow you to install the Deluxe version
on multiple computers so long as no more than one copy will be used at a
time.
