June,

Ancestor Colours are just that. Colours applied to your direct ancestors. Your
father has a colour because he is our ancestor, his brother does not because,
although he is related to you (Uncle) he is not an ancestor.

If you use Tools > Set Relationships with yourself as the starting person you
could add relationship as a custom column on the Index to show how you are
related to people.

Re: [LegacyUG] Latest Updated

2020-09-28 Thread Cathy Pinner
I've not heard of the Index View being slow to load. It's basically
instant for me. I use it all the time.

How big is your file? Is it slow every time?
How much RAM does your computer have?

It is known that some people have a problem with the Name List opening
slowly. It helps to turn off the columns for hints and PPs and only show
3 tag columns - but not a lot.
It is difficult to know what is causing this slowness for some people as
the active testers aren't seeing it.

Well after just letting the blank screen look back at me, it finally
loaded after about 15 minutes.  That option is still OK, but I really
prefer using the "name list' because it gives me more details about
each person I click on than just using the "index" option.  Is there a
fix for the loading of the "name list"?

Thanks

When I click on "Index"  I cannot make it work.  I have nothing but a
blank screen.  If I type in a surname, nothing happens and the screen
is blank except for what I just typed in.  It does not matter which
category I put data into, I still have a blank screen with nothing
happening.

On the main Legacy Screen there are six Tabs across the top; Legacy
Home, Family, Pedigree, Descendant, Chronology and Index.

The Index tab is what people are talking about. It is like the View >
Name List but you do not have to open a new screen to access it. Using
the RIN, Given and Surname boxes you can change the sort order (in the
same way as in the Name List). In Deluxe Versions you can also
customize the Columns displayed on that view by clicking on the Column
titles.

Re: [LegacyUG] Index and Ancestral Colours

2020-09-28 Thread Cathy Pinner

Ian,

If  your Ancestor Colours only go back 4 generations it is time you
reset them. Tools > Ancestor Colours.
Like Set Relationships and Set Direct Line, you need to refresh after
adding more generations.
Set Direct Line is not such as issue as it is setting the preferred
child and you probably are adding your direct ancestor first each time
you move back.

Where Ancestor Colours show is controlled by Options > Customise 8.3

Cathy

irhock...@xtra.co.nz
Tuesday, 29 September 2020 8:41 AM

Ancestor Colours only go back 4 generations – which is not far enough
back, and with the latest update the option to “include married names”
in the index only sticks for the current open session.

I have to remember to turn the option on every time I open Legacy and
want to use the index!

Cheers,

Ian

Thank you for the index thread. It has taught me something that is
going to be very useful.

What it made me question was the ancestral colours. I have set them up
on the Family screen and they are correct on my immediate ancestors
(grandparents, great grandparents etc) but seeing the index and the
colours there has made me realise that the colours actually only show
on the immediate ancestor and not on children of those people.

For example my father has a colour and his father but not his brother.
Is this is how it is supposed to be or am I missing something - just
as I had previously missed using the index.

Thank you - June

Re: [LegacyUG] Date problem

2020-09-28 Thread Brian Kelly

Gwen,

The way Legacy interprets numeric dates like 4 10 1942 is based on your
Windows settings for dates. You seem to have our Windows dates set to
mm, dd, so 4 10 1942 is interpreted as Apr 10 1942. If you want 4
10 1942 to be read as 4 Oct you need to change your windows date setting
to dd, mm, .

PS 14 10 1942 would be correctly interpreted because the 14 cannot be a
month so Legacy knows it is a day and then reads the 10 as a month.

OK Nix that last problem with the index being empty. It just takes
forever to fill.
Looks interesting, I am contemplating possibilities.
Thanks

[LegacyUG] Index and Ancestral Colours

2020-09-28 Thread June
Thank you for the index thread. It has taught me something that is going to be
very useful.

What it made me question was the ancestral colours. I have set them up on the
Family screen and they are correct on my immediate ancestors (grandparents,
great grandparents etc) but seeing the index and the colours there has made me
realise that the colours actually only show on the immediate ancestor and not
on children of those people.

For example my father has a colour and his father but not his brother. Is this
is how it is supposed to be or am I missing something - just as I had
previously missed using the index.

Thank you - June

There's been so much talk about it that I just checked and both my index page

On the main Legacy Screen there are six Tabs across the top; Legacy Home,
Family, Pedigree, Descendant, Chronology and Index.

The Index tab is what people are talking about. It is like the View > Name List
but you do not have to open a new screen to access it. Using the RIN, Given and
Surname boxes you can change the sort order (in the same way as in the Name
List). In Deluxe Versions you can also customize the Columns displayed on that
view by clicking on the Column titles.

On my copy of Legacy 9, there is a number of tabs: 1. Legacy Home; Family;
Descendant; Chronology; And finally, *Index*! Like I said before, I use the
Index tab everyday.
