[LegacyUG] Problems with Descendant Narrative Reports
I have just updated my Legacy Deluxe to version 8.0.0.439 hoping that it would fix a number of problems with the Descendant Narrative Book report that I am using extensively in a family history compilation that I have been making for family. A couple of problems to do with couple names have been fixed but other issues have not. Before I report the faults I was wondering if anyone else had the following problems or could replicate them. Firstly, I use the following settings - Report Options>Include>Format>Use quoted names for narratives Report Options>Include>Format>Event Narrative Format>Bullet point each event. Options>Indent each gen 1cm The issues I have are - 1. Quoted names are not always used in the narratives, sometimes they are are sometimes they aren't. An example would be - 1-Elizabeth Jane "Janey" Smith was born in 1888. Noted events in her life were: * Elizabeth resided in Sydney in 1900. * Janey worked as a waitress. 2. Each generation should indent 1 cm. This works only for only the initial sentences for each generation, any bullet points are not in line with the individual to whom they are associated and are back in line with generation 1. An example would be - 1-John was born in 1876. Noted events in his life life were: * John worked as an engine driver. John married Janey Smith. They had two children: Ellen and William. 2-Ellen was born in 1908. Noted events in her life were: * Ellen was a talented artist. Ellen married Peter Jones in 1930. They had five children: Jane, William, John, Ellen and Robert. 3-Jane was born in 1931. Noted events in her life were: * Jane resided in Melbourne between 1955-1960. I know that this was not an issue before version 8 as I have a previous copy of my book which is correctly laid out and quoted names were also fine. I don't think I have missed a setting somewhere but there is always the chance that I am doing something wrong. I would really appreciate any help, advice. or even knowing if others have these faults or if it is just me. Re: [LegacyUG] Descendent Book Report (Modified Register)
So glad these are a known issues. I use the Descendant Narrative Book report extensively and all these faults are in it too. The other problem I have noticed is that I have each generation set to indent further than the previous and this report is not currently indenting any of the notes to there correct place with the individual they are associated with. Is this also a known issue or do I need to report it? Re: [LegacyUG] Notes Problem in V8
Thank you everyone. I knew it was probably something that I was doing. There was a whole new section in the Report settings that referred to including the notes. Once I ticked this box everything returned to normal. Thanks again. [LegacyUG] Notes Problem in V8
Hello everyone, Was just wondering if anyone else had any trouble with events notes not showing in descendant narrative reports? If so I'll report it as a bug, but if it is just me I may have altered a setting somewhere without realising it. Although what that setting may be, I don't know. I use this feature extensively but now in V8 the events are listed in the reports but the notes have been stripped out. On example I found had a few blank lines and then the source citation number. Most of the others stripped the lot. Any help would be greatly appreciated. [LegacyUG] Sentence structure issue
Hello Everyone I have tried looking in the help and the old archives but I have not been able to find a solution to my problem when creating Descendant Narrative Reports. One of my Aunts had four children and then divorced. Later on she fostered a child by herself. The first part of her listing with her first husband and biological children is fine and I have managed to list her without a spouse in the report for the fostered child, but it now reads in a strange way and seems to be missing a full stop. The sentence produced look something like this - Jane had a child She had one son: Jonathan "John". (Notice the missing full stop after the word child.) I would like to edit the sentence structure but I am not able to find it, although I did find a whole section where you could edit these for marriages. If I am not able to edit this sentence then this would appear to be a programing error in regard to the missing punctuation. Any help or advice would be greatly appreciated as my Aunty recently died and I am trying to get this report right for her family. Hi Doris, At risk of also being off topic, be wary of putting living people's names on Ancestry or anywhere else, even without details. I have been burnt by this, Belinda PS Can the user group only discuss problems, or can it discuss general topics, I wonder:) Or is there another group for that? From: Connie Sheets To: LegacyUserGroup@LegacyUsers.com Sent: Wed, 12 May, 2010 1:50:01 AM Subject: RE: [LegacyUG] Use of Gedcom Files Doris, Rootsweb is now owned by Ancestry.com, but part of their agreement when they bought it was to keep it free. Kirsten was, I believe, referring to the Rootsweb Worldconnect Project, which is separate from Ancestry Public Member trees. Besides the relative ease of uploading a gedcom file to Worldconnect, no one will have to pay to see it, plus you can remove it at any time.
