Thanks. That is exactly what I am doing (and always do, because I want to back
up media as well).

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy Media File.

2019-09-06 Thread Holly Nelson
I am not the expert that Cathy is, but here is what I did. I put the media
files from the old computer (I had more than one file) on a usb stick and
copied to the place I wanted them in legacy on the new one. Then I ran the
"media relinker" on the new computer. It did a remarkable job, and then
notified me of the missing media files, which I found on the old computer
and transferred to the new one the same way. After you get that done, you
want to use the new computer for all additions, so you don't have to
somehow link everything again!

Hope that makes sense. Best of luck in the transfer!

Re: [LegacyUG] Census

2018-01-17 Thread Holly Nelson
Good thoughts! I had to check the pregnancy angle, but sister Alice was
born in May 1921, and the census was done on 16 Jan 1920. Too long for a
pregnancy, and I have never heard (or found evidence of) a miscarriage in
between. They did lose their first child shortly after birth (1912), and
that is well documented, so I can see them being very cautious of any
pregnancy!

Still a mystery! But thank you for your ideas! Unfortunately, all the
siblings are now deceased, so I can't go back and ask questions of them!

Re: [LegacyUG] Census

2018-01-17 Thread Holly Nelson
Thanks to all for your responses.

I was close to my grandparents, who lived in the house my father was born in
until their deaths in 1971 and 1977. There were no family members nearby this
small Indiana town, who might be babysitting for a 21 month old toddler.
Perhaps neighbors? Possible, I guess. But it still seems that he would have
been listed as a member of his parents household. (?)

I never have heard of my father being a sick child. I have many pictures of
him with parents at 1 and 2 years of age, and he certainly appears healthy.

So it is a mystery, and I do love mysteries, so will continue to pursue.
Thanks to all for enlarging my considerations!

[LegacyUG] Census

2018-01-16 Thread Holly Nelson
I have an unusual question. My father was born in 1918 (I have his birth
certificate, and mutiple corroborations of this). He appears with his
family on the 1930 and 1940 census, but is not listed on the 1920 census.
His parents are there, as well as his older brothers.

My thoughts about how to handle this are to make an event for the 1920
census (that is how I handle all the census reports) and note that he is
not listed on it, though parents and older siblings are.

Is there a better way to note this apparent error?

Holly

Re: [LegacyUG] Master Locations List

2017-02-02 Thread Holly Nelson
I wish I had read all of these responses first! I have just finished
moving the name of the cemetery (with its address) to the Burial Address
and then deleting the name of the cemetery from the location (leaving city,
county, state, etc.) It would have saved me some time!
