[LegacyUG] Different files with same name in Media folder
I had to delete an early version of a source picture because it was wrong. I created a new source picture using the same filename as the version that I had deleted. However, when I try to add the new media to the event, a popup box appears that says: "Filename Changed The filename ... already exists in the Media folder. The two files appear to be different. Legacy has changed the name of the file you have just selected by adding a number to the end to make it unique. You can accept the change or edit it." The new filename is then given: filename_2.jpg I've gone to the Media folder in Legacy Family Tree and cannot find the earlier version. I've searched the C: drive for the file and only the new version is listed. Where is the earlier version hiding and how can I remove it so that it is no longer referenced by Legacy? Thanks in advance for anyone's help! [LegacyUG] Delaware Hundreds Subdivisions
The 1870 Federal Census for one of my ancestors indicates that he was an inhabitant of "St. George's Hundred Subdivision No.9". in New Castle County, Delaware. I'm familiar with the Hundreds and have a map of the Delaware Hundreds from the 1868 state atlas, but can find no reference to subdivisions. I would appreciate any information; a map of the subdivisions would be wonderful! [LegacyUG] Relinking Media
I changed the paths for all of my media, so the Media Relinker is unable to find the media. However, I had copied all of my media into the Legacy Family Tree\Media folder. Is there some way that I can direct the Media Relinker to this folder so that the links are re-established simultaneously? Thanks! [LegacyUG] Change of source media path to ability of Legacy to find and link to files
*BACKGROUND* The path that I used when I created new source media is: C:\Genealogy Master Images\aaNEW FILING METHOD 2015\surname\first name\Source Copies\document file name An example is: C:\Genealogy Master Images\aaNEW FILING METHOD 2015\DAVIS\Ida Ellen\Source Copies\birth certificate When I saved a document or photo to a source, I chose the option to leave the file where it was and link to it there, i.e. I didn't use the default media folder location. *PROBLEM* The "aaNEW FILING METHOD 2015" part of the path needs to be deleted for all of my source media in Legacy as paths are becoming too long for Legacy to handle. Reference to the 2015 filing method is also no longer relevant. The problem is not within Internet Explorer as I can easily move the surname folders directly under the Genealogy Master Images folder, then delete the intervening aaNEW FILING METHOD 2015 sub-folder. *QUESTIONS* 1. Will Legacy be able to find my source media if I remove the aaNEW FILING METHOD 2015 sub-folder from the path? 2. Is there a way to make a global change rather than having to change the path for each individual document or photo? [LegacyUG] Changing my source path
My filing system is C:/Genealogy Master Images/aa New Filing Method 2015/ followed by separate folders for each surname. I want to delete the "aa New Filing Method 2015" out of the paths for each source. The filing system would then be much simplified as C:/Genealogy Master Images/ followed by the surname folders. How can I change the path for my sources? [LegacyUG] Renaming Restored Files
I have had to restore my family files. How do I rename them so that when launched, Legacy pulls up the restored files, not the original files? The original data files are contained in Legacy Family Tree/Data and is named "Jess 2016-09-21 4.09.25 PM". The folder contains the Legacy Genealogy Software, and .CBH, .FG, .FSD, .SC, .TC, .RC3.RC3, and RGD.RGD files. The restored data files are also contained in Legacy Family Tree/Data and is named "Restored Jess family file 21 Sep 2016 2016-09-21 4.09.29 PM". It contains the Legacy Genealogy Software, and what I believe are new .CBH, .FSD, .TC, .RC3, and .RGD files. Do I rename "Restored Jess family file 21 Sep 2016 2016-09-21 4.09.29 PM" or will Legacy find it with this name? [LegacyUG] Unmarried parents, an illegitimate daughter, a step-father, and half-siblings
I have a convoluted problem that I've tried to lay out below: Problem 1. In Family View for George and Lidie: a. Marriage info box correctly shows they did *not *marry b. Ethel is correctly listed as their daughter c. Clifford and Edward, the biological sons of Lidie and her first husband Charles. are listed as half children to George and Lidie's "partnership" Question 1: The boys are *not *half children to George because he never married Lidie - how do I indicate that the boys are not George's half children on George and Lidie's Family View? Problem 2. In Family View for Charles and Lidie: a. Marriage info box shows correctly that they *were *married b. All 3 children (Ethel, Clifford, Edward) are listed as their children Problem 2: How do I indicate that Ethel is Charles' step-daughter so that it shows correctly in the Children list on Charles and Lidie's Family View? Problem 3. In Family View for *each *of the 3 children (Ethel, Clifford, and Edward'): a. When the "show 1/2 brothers and sisters" box is *not *checked, each child's Sibling List shows no half siblings, as expected b. When the "show 1/2 brothers and sisters" box *is *checked, each child's Sibling List shows Ethel twice - once with no half sibling relationship to Clifford and Edward, and once with Ethel as a half sister to Clifford and Edward Question 3. How do I fix the respective Family Views for Clifford and Edward so that Ethel's half sister relationship to them is indicated? Question 4. How do I fix Ethel's Familv View so that Clifford and Edward are indicated as her half brothers? Question 5. How do I ensure that Ethel is listed only once on each child's Sibling List? Thank you for the inputs, everyone. I think I was concerned with loss of quality each time you OPEN a .jpg file, not just when you edit the file. Re: [LegacyUG] Source Name Filing System #2
Wes - Your approach seems logical, although I have a few questions: 1. Why do you first save images as TIFFs, then convert to JPEG? Why not save as JPEGs from the beginning? 2. Where and how do you maintain original documents, such as birth certificates? Should these be kept in a safe? 3. Is there a need to keep hard copy file folders/binder systems if you use electronic files? What might you keep in hard copy (other than original documents)? 4. Do you treat photographs differently from documents? 5. Is it correct that you save all images in your Legacy Data folder, then duplicate some of them into the Legacy Pictures folder so they can be linked to your sources in the Picture Gallery and saved as part of the Multimedia Files backup? 6. Why did you create a Legacy Data folder instead of using the Data folder that Legacy automatically sets up? Many thanks in advance!
