[LegacyUG] Backing up to the cloud

2019-06-03 Thread Susan Osborne
Does it cost to use the backup to cloud feature in Legacy?
Is there a problem with security if you use it?

Re: [LegacyUG] Lost family file after name change

2018-05-23 Thread Susan Osborne
You may have messed up the 3 digit file extension when you renamed it.  Legacy
stores the files in Documents.  The main executable file is shown with a blue
dot with a letter L in the middle.  The file name is shown with no extension in
the list of files in the Data File but when the file is open on the desktop the
file is shown to have a .fdb extension.
If you left this file in the Legacy folder when it was renamed, you should be
able to rename it again correctly so that it will work.  The place to look
would be in the Data file which is found in the Legacy folder.  It is found in
Documents/Legacy Family Tree/Data.

[LegacyUG] Program Glitch in Legacy 8.00.566 Standard Version?

2017-07-03 Thread Susan Osborne
We are experiencing a strange problem with this Legacy program that we cannot
get a handle on and need help figuring out what the problem might be.
When clicking on the name of a child in one particular family file, the program
pulls up a child of that person instead of the mother whose file was clicked
on.  The only way to get to her file is to then click on her name as she is
displayed as the mother instead of displayed as a child in her family.
Do you know what could be the cause and / or solution to this problem?

Re: [LegacyUG] How to define/locate the "Family File Folder"

2017-02-14 Thread Susan Osborne
I would think another option when you are saving and working from your file on
your computer that as you close your program that you choose to 'save as' the
file to the cloud.
When you do this, though, you will have to make sure that when you open it
again that it is opening from your file on your computer and not the one in the
cloud that it was saved to last.

Set the locations, then Save.

If they get lost in future you can clock on the bottom where it says "Options

Re: [LegacyUG] Couple married twice

2016-10-14 Thread Susan Osborne
I have this situation also.
It appears that both of these churches were both affiliated to the  Church of
England.  Sometimes there was a second marriage because in a church of another
faith when one faith was not the established church in England at the time and
the marriage would not have been recognized.  But, this does not appear to be
the case here.
I, personally, would use the information from the earliest marriage in the
record and enter the second marriage in the notes.
Maybe the couple had a falling out and felt they needed a renewal of their vows?

I am now looking into possible reasons for them going through two

I would be grateful for any suggestions.

Re: [LegacyUG] Relation who can't be correctly linked.

2016-06-07 Thread Susan Osborne
The obituary may not be correct either.  Families sometimes will cover an
illegitimate relationship by calling them 'uncle' or 'nephew' to others outside
of the family.
DNA  tests of one of his descendants MAY shed some light on this.  But, you may
never know for sure.
Personally, I would link him in the tree the way the family chose to and change
the 'relationship' tab to show that he may not be related to the particular
parents that he is linked to and document this in his notes until more is known.
My husband has a grandfather who was adopted.  The name of his mother is known
but no father is mentioned on the birth certificate.  DNA tests of descendants
show a family relationship to the adopted father's line.  It appears by this
that the father who adopted him may have actually been his biological father
and without the DNA results no one would have known.
Good luck on this one

he was illegitimate and the surname Bloor should not be tacked on.
(Similarly, his wife was illegitimate and her father's name as her own
surname tacked on, incorrectly.)  Then I found a report of my 2nd Great
Grandfather's funeral in which he was described as a nephew.

If he was illegitimate and was a nephew of my GG Grandfather there were
4 daughters who might possibly have been his mother.  Of 3 of them I
know nothing other than their names and dates of baptism, the 4th was
just old enough (about 16) to have been Uncle Tom's mother 4 years or so
before she married.

How would other users link Uncle Tom to the rest of the family so that
his correct relationship shows up?  Would you link him to one of the 4
sisters with a note that the relationship is totally unproven?  Link him
to all 4 with the relationships all unproven?  Add a new unknown sibling
as the parent of Uncle Tom?

If you want to link them rather than put everything into Legacy, create a Word
Docx file or PDF file in a folder on your computer and link that file to the
individual. The file could contain the contents of the blog or essay.

If it is an internet file, you can simply put the url as the source for
