[LegacyUG] Question about sourcs

2015-08-06 Thread Susan Swindell
Not sure how to word this but in v7 you could put several sources on the clip
board then choose which one you wanted to use. In v8 you can put up to 5
sources on the source page but cannot seem to choose between them. I have been
working on a family using 3 sources and cross referencing them. When I choose -
say source 2 it still adds the information from sources 1, 3 and 4 to the field
(event). Then I have to go in and delete the ones that aren't pertinent to that
event. What am I doing wrong or is that just the way it now works?

That is the way it has always worked when multiple sources were on the
clipboard. The users assumption that only a selected tab would be
applied when they used multiple sources on the clipboard was one of the
main reasons we removed the multiple source clipboard from Legacy 7. You
may have been correct that with very early versions of 7.0 there was a
multi-source clipboard but by the time Legacy was updated to 7.4 and 7.5
the clipboard only held one source.

The multiple source clipboard has been re-introduced in Legacy 8.0 as an
option and the help for the source clipboard explicitly says that all
sources on the clipboard are assigned (that information was present in
the Help for Legacy 6 and earlier but was not as clearly specified as it
is now).

Susan,
You can save up to 10 different clipboards and you can pull them up as needed.
That is different than the 5 sources that you can put on a single clipboard.

At the bottom of the Source Clipboard you will see two buttons, Save Citations
to Disk and Load Citations from Disk. That is where you can save and pull up
10 different clipboards.

Re: [LegacyUG] Entering a Location on a Military Base

2014-07-22 Thread Susan Swindell
I was born in a military hospital. For years I had listed the wrong county
until I took a good look at my birth certificate. The base was in a
different county than the city it was named after. Perhaps you could find
a genealogical society or historical society in the area and query them as
to the county in which the hospital is located.

Hi. Legacy seems to be autocapitalizing Ira, NY to IRA, NY. I can't figure out
why. Only the town, not the county (Cayuga County). Can someone else test this:

Ira, Cayuga County, New York, USA

and see if it changes the R and A to caps?

I came from using the PAF program where I could create an Index of everyone in
my data base where I could have columns: RIN, Surname, Given name, Birth Date,
Death Date, Father, Mother and Spouse. It was done in Alphabetical order.
Is there any way to do this in Legacy? I have been trying all weekend with no
luck.

I would go back and do it in PAF but Windows 10 doesn't work with PAF.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Re: [LegacyUG] Location standards

2019-02-04 Thread Susan Swindell
Debbie, I'm in DAR, and always used commas when entering locations in the
applications. Is the "no commas" something new?

On applications submitted to NSDAR the rule was established about 3 or 4 years
ago. But since you retype everything onto the application it doesn't affect how
you enter things into Legacy.
