Ron;

Thank you for the reply, but I ran check/repair immediately after noticing the
problem with the data. It didn't find any problems.

Diane,

I suggest that you run FileFile MaintenanceCheck Repair, repeatedly until you
it stops reporting errors, and then check again. Also closing Legacy and
turning off the machine can sometimes eradicate similar problems. If neither of
these suggestions work, then please come back to us.

Nannette;

I'm sorry to hear you're having problems too. I'm glad I had a backup.
Unfortunately it was an older backup so I lost a some of my recent work, but it
was better than nothing. I haven't checked my sources and photos yet. I hope
I haven't lost any of them.

Diane, I too had all my source documentation, transcriptions and photos
stripped away with this last update. Now I'm doing backups after each sourcing
entry series. What a frustrating situation.

Subject: [LegacyUG] Any reports of problems with the latest update??

I'm wondering if anyone has had any problems with their database after the
latest update? When I opened Legacy after the recent update I noticed a
problem with several locations. All of a sudden Legacy took random locations
and assigned them to hundreds of people the location didn't belong to. I now
have 300+ people that all got married at the same cemetery. I haven't checked
all locations but so far have found 4 locations that were randomly assigned
where they didn't belong. So I went to one of my backups. The locations are
fine, but when I started Legacy today (with my backup that I had been using for
a couple of days) my entire line was gone. My husband's line is fine, but all
of a sudden I didn't have any ancestors. They were all still in the database,
but had just suddenly disconnected from me. So I had to reconnect everyone.
It's getting very frustrating! Anyone else have any problems??

Re: [LegacyUG] Any reports of problems with the latest update??

2012-02-11 Thread Ron Ferguson
Nannette,

I am not certain from your description that your problem is the same as that of
Diane. Do you mean that your sources, transcriptions and photos are no longer
linked, or the files no longer exist?

If changes have been made then everyone should backup when exiting Legacy,
there is an implication in your post that you do not do this. In the event that
you do then, you can use FileRestore Family Files to at least get your sources
back (I am not clear what you mean with “transcriptions”), and if you also use
the multimedia back up you can also restore your photos. Provided they still
exist then they can be relinked if you do not.

I do, however, agree that an update should not cause this problem, although
coincidence can never be ruled out, even with respect to my problem!

Usually when sources are lost it's because there's a check mark in
front of one of the Show Only filters in the Master Source List.

Make sure there are no check marks.

Diane:

I reported a problem with the latest software update, related to web page
creation a week ago: my saved
parameters for the web page setup were not loaded automatically, and
subsequently overwritten with apparently
some default values. It's now under investigation, but your problems sounds
similar enough in some respects
that it needs looking into.

I firmly believe the first priority of Legacy - or any other genealogy software
- is to preserve the users'
data.
