Quite feasible. All there needs be is an option to sort or not sort.

No, the program would only have to read the sort order from the data input page.

But I guess I will have to yield to the view that the two “pages” are just not
connected in Legacy. I can live with that.

To sort the way you manually sorted, the program would have to be able to read
your mind. It cannot do that, it can only read the date. Obviously, it sorts by
the year (only) first, then sorts by month/day/year as shown in your excerpt.

Re: [LegacyUG] Chronology View

2016-07-16 Thread Cathy Pinner

It's the CHRONOLOGY View. It's whole point is to put things in date order.
A date that is just a year or about is sorted before 1 Jan .

I don't know if you are doing anything wrong or not. But Legacy sorts
first by date, then by alphabet.
I use the Census for both Residence Events and Occupation Events.
Because they bot have the same date, Legacy puts
the Occupation first. I kept trying, but finally gave up. If you
happen to find a way to make it do what you say, please let me know.

Thank you so much.

Take control. What's your setting at Options - Customise 2.2

Unless there's a bug you don't have to auto sort edited events.

After some playing around with Legacy, I now believe it does indeed
make the Chronology View respect the order setting you have made on
the Individual’s Information screen. The problem is that if you edit
a “common-date” event or fact (but do not change the date), Legacy
will place it alphabetically within others of the same date in the
Individual’s Information screen. If you don’t do a “resort” the
Chronology View will look “wrong.” Unfortunately (for me at least),
remembering to resort is not an easy thing to do.

Ugh.

Don,

The whole point of a Chronology Report is to order by date.

Maybe you need an Individual Report instead.
