have gone with a combination.

Correct. Because the event (or Event) in question is the Informing,
which really has little to do with the occasion of what is being
Informed about.

Do you create the mirror image, and have an

I was going to write "Not a specific Event, but in the case of a
Birth/Death Informant, the information will be recorded in the Source
Detail because as well as attaching a copy of the Certificate I copy all
the text to the Text field", but then I went and looked at my own record
and saw that I have added Birth Notes (behind the plus sign next to the
Birth field) of "The birth was registered on 8th January 1945. The
informant was A F Dodd, Father, resident at 10 Cearns Road, Birkenhead.
The Registrar was E W Owens."

In the case of witnesses to other Events - Marriages, Wills and so on, I
usually Share the main Event and use Witness as the rôle.

[LegacyUG] Informant Event Definition?

2015-06-07 Thread gregandlaurel
Hi Rob, I think adding or not adding the date of the event in addition to
the date of registration is a personal choice. I like to include both. My
event sentence format is different than yours, but here is a Birth Informant
event from my file:

1886 Feb 15 - Birth Informant - Annie registered the Dec 28, 1885, birth of
her daughter Charlotte with the Superintendent Registrar's District of
Swansea in Swansea, Glamorgan, Wales.¹

and under the daughter Charlotte's events, I would have a Birth Registration
event:

1886 Feb 15 - Birth Registration - Charlotte's mother Annie was her birth
informant registering the event with the Superintendent Registrar's District
of Swansea, Registrar's Sub-District of Swansea in Swansea, Glamorgan,
Wales.¹

I wouldn't refer to the birthdate in the daughter's event because I would
have a separate Birth Event just prior to the Birth Registration event.

Thanks Jenny! So you only record the date of the registration (not the date
of the event) correct? Do you create the mirror image, and have an event
(following your example) for yourself saying who was the informant on your
record?

Thanks,

Rob

I don't think my way is much different to yours.

My sentence "«b»[EventName]«/b»: [onDate] [HeShe] registered the [Desc]
[atPlace].[Sources]"

gives "Informant: on 8 January 1945 he registered the Birth of his
daughter Jennifer Margaret Dodd at Birkenhead, Cheshire, England.¹

for my father being the informant of my own birth.

Update: I just ran a Check/Repair and the orphaned source was removed from
my next printing of the report.

So all is good in Individual Chart Land.

Thanks!

[LegacyUG] Informant event definition?

2015-06-07 Thread Rob Miller
Hello! I'm trying to create a definition for Informants (i.e. Betty was
the informant on her son's civil registration.)

Do Legacy users include the event date AND the registration date in the
definition?

I'm finding it very chewy. Presently I have:

[HeShe] was recorded as the informant [Desc] [onDate] [inPlace].

which creates:

She was recorded as the informant on her son John's August 25, 1961 civil
birth registration on 27 Aug 1961 in Winnipeg, , Manitoba, Canada.¹

Could someone please suggest a better way to record the information?

Thank you!

Rob
