Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.4 now available

2010-02-02 Thread RICHARD SCHULTHIES

I just downloaded 7.4. I had been using the Family Search ID field as a storage
field, and now the program will not let me empty the field. It will allow me to
edit the User ID and AFN. I have only 3 people with something there, that I
know of. What I had there, is the word NONE with the RIN of the person. I
actually put that in the AFN field (until I find the AFN), but a few slipped
in. It has apparently locked the field.

Nope! That subfolder contains the software.

It is stored in the .fsd file located in the same folder as the data file
(.fbd).

How does Legacy 7.4 store the information displayed on the nFS screen?

My wife and I have a research database, which I keep synched by using
Intellishare. I will probably go through the database with nFS, but I will
want to share that information with her. Will drag and drop bring the nFS
info along? How about GEDCOM? Will I need to integrate her data then just
transfer her database? Or is there some other file that stores that data?

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy 7.4 now available

2010-01-31 Thread Carl Cox
I have been trying 7.4 on the newFamilySearch. It works great except for one
problem: The list of names on the left that are being worked on can be
scrolled by the wheel on the mouse. But I often wish to scroll the screens
on the right, and am used to using the wheel. When the mouse cursor is on
the data screens on the right, I expect that screen to scroll with the
wheel, but instead I move a name on the left list and the program obediently
starts to retrieve the new data. I recognize that the wheel works that way
in many programs, and I can have that problem in those programs, but it
seems that the wheel would be more useful in moving the data rather than
selecting a name on the list.

Am I being too picky?

Another problem: how do I change the person from whom the list of persons is
made? Do I have to exit the nFS program, go back into Legacy, then
re-initiate nFS with a new person selected?

Carl,

I don't quite understand your question. Can you not scroll the list in
the nFS screen ? Whatever the problem, you should not need to exit nFS
and reload it. Possibly change your filter at the top left. You may be
just looking at direct line ancestors ? If so, change your filter. Take
a look at Geoff's video listed below.

Carl,

For now, yes. Your question reminded me that we need the ability to change the
root person upon whom the percentages are based. I'll see what we can do.

Regarding the scroll wheel, I, too, agree that it'd be nice to enhance this as
you suggest.

The names the filter works on depend upon the one that was highlighted in
Legacy when you choose nFS. Filtering just uses those same names. I have
18000 names in my database, so selecting all the names is not an option.
Similarly, tag or focus requires working on the Legacy database, which
requires exiting the nFS screen then re-establishing it. All I want to do is
change the original highlighted name so I can use a different snippet of
names to work on, but I don't see how without the exit and re-signing in.
