[LegacyUG] Legacy hangs

2012-06-06 Thread Tony Rolfe
I have been experiencing a similar bug. I haven't reported it because I
can't reproduce it at will. However...

I am in the middle of a big search list, usually working in Pedigree
View. I stop working on the current person and do some work on other
people. This may take anything from a couple of minutes to more than an
hour. They may be family members of the current person, or someone
distant in the tree - it doesn't seem to matter. Finally I want to get
back to the current search list person, so I do "find next" followed by
"find previous" and nothing happens. The same person stays on the
screen. My work-around is to right-click/edit someone else in the
pedigree view (say a grandparent of the highlighted person) and then
immediately save them. "Find Next" now (usually) works.

I have tested using multiple "find Next"s and the pointer moves, but the
screen does not get updated.

If I can ever determine what it is that causes the problem I'll report
it, but "do something for somewhere between a few minutes and an hour or
so" isn't really specific enough.

Cheers

Tony

Re: [LegacyUG] Legacy hangs

2012-06-06 Thread Jim Terry/Support
If there is a bug that develops, Legacy has some built in tools that can
fix some problems.

1) File Maintenance: There are glitches that may develop in the family file
from time to time. They can often be fixed by doing a Check and Repair of
the family file. Please click on File on the menu bar and select File
Maintenance > Check/Repair and proceed with the repair. If any error
messages occur during the Check/Repair process, click No in the error
message box so that the repair steps can finish. Do Check/Repair twice if
errors are found.

2.) Reset buttons: Sometimes there are combinations of user settings that
may cause screens to freeze. Please click on Options on the menu bar and
select Customize. Next, click the Reset to Defaults button at the bottom of
the screen, confirm the reset and then Save. Often this is all that you
need to do. You will, however, loose some customized settings, such as
screen colors and personalized font settings. These things will have to be
reset.

If the problem continues, please send a message to
supp...@legacyfamilytree.com.

Thanks,

Jim

Asking a silly question - On Options--> Customise--> General

What is the setting for "To Move Names in Family View"? Single or Double?

It is definitely a bug. A piece of software should NOT hang,
regardless of what you have been doing or for how long.

So, I guess you are saying there is no plan to fix the bug.
The workaround is to close and reopen legacy. ;-)

The only change I had made to the family file
before this happened this particular time, was to delete
a marriage.

It's not really a bug. I suspect that you have probably been working in
Legacy for quite a while when this happens. You found the solution: just
close Legacy and reopen it. Other times when things happen to your
computer, rebooting is all that's needed.

I will be working on my family file in the family view
and will reach up to click a parent and nothing happens.
Then I try clicking a child and again nothing happens. I
am simply stuck on the current individual. I can continue
to work on the individual selected, but nothing else. I
get out of this situation by closing legacy and then
opening it back up.

Is this bug something others have experienced? I am
running version 7.5.0.185.
