Hi Marianne,

I don't know whether you saw the very brief answer provided or whether it was
helpful if you did see it.
You added your question to an existing thread which has been further highjacked.

The answer is to Merge them.
If you knew how to do that, you wouldn't have asked your question.

The alternative to merging in this instance is just copy the source to the
source clipboard - on the Assigned Sources page you'll find a copy button
bottom left which copies the highlighted source with the source details to the
Source Clipboard and paste it to Petrus - and add an AKA for Petrus. Then
delete Peter.

However, I'd practice merging as it's likely you will find the same issue again.

Tools - Merge - Manual Merge

Before you do the merge
1) backup your file
2) take note of the RINs of the people you want to merge.
3) with Petrus highlighted, open the merge screen as above.
4) use the Select Right to find Peter
5) check the options for information that is different by choosing the radio
button next to information you want to keep.
6) Note that the alternate data doesn't need to be lost. eg: You can opt to add
Peter to the AKAs of Petrus by clicking the black square next to Given Name and
choosing "Copy the name on the right to Alternate names."
You'll find options under that black square when you are wanting to preserve
other differing data.
7) When everything has been checked - including on the various tabs that have
an asterisk, click "Merge Right Individual into Left Individual" button
Done

It did in previous versions. The maximum is 2 now. It did open three windows
but it would only duplicate the file I started with.

The closer you get to the 2 GB, the greater the chances of running into
problems when doing some of the calculations. Access needs some room to work
in

My suggestion would be to split the file, groups and individuals not linked to
your Family File, clean it up to remove strange unknown entries that can show
up from gedcom imports and do regular File > File Maintenance > Check/Repair
and then the additional Compact Family File. Make sure your Master Lists are
clean with no duplicates in them and it's probably best to not hang on to
sources, locations and surnames that aren't in use. Purge those Master Lists.

Since I'm not quite sure of your question - how many different Family Files can
you have or how many separate families in one file - I'm answering it both ways.

You can have as many different Family Files as you want. Unless you're using
Split Screen (View ribbon), you can have only one open at a time. Split Screen
lets you open two files at the same time.

You can have any number of unlinked groups or individuals within a specific
Family File. However, that can get confusing. Go to View > Trees to see all
the unlinked groups and individuals in your Family File.

The only limit to how many individuals you can have in a file is a limit set by
Access of a file size no larger than 2 GB. I've seen files with over 1 million
individuals that weren't even close to the limit and files with just over
500,000 individuals that were pretty darn close. It all depends on how much
other information you have added.
