Try Contains rather than Equal to.

Equal to will only work if what you are looking for is the ONLY data in
that field.

(And the rules for this list say no attachments.)

RE: [LegacyUG] Search information in Notes

2013-12-17 Thread Kurt Kneeland
You can use Search -> Find

In the Where to Search you can select any one of the note fields

Under How to Look, select Contains

Under What to Look For enter your search string

I don’t think it will take it in the form you showed. If you just enter it as
Grange Farm, it will look for that phrase.

If you want it to look for Grange and Farm as separate words, you’ll need look
just for Grange, click the And option and set up the second condition to look
for Farm.

Otherwise, you can use the 2nd and 3rd conditions, with the Or option, to
search up to 3 different Note fields at one time.

On the Where to Look list, most of the Note fields are grouped together, but
the one for Event-Notes which applies to custom events, is listed separately
further down on the list.

This topic probably will be covered in due course, but I don't think the
videos for Legacy 8 are ready yet.

If you open Help, you will see "Tutorial" on the right-hand side. Click
"Tutorial Lessons" and scroll down to the exercise "How to search for
individuals" under the Intermediate heading.

Hi Jenny
Thanks for your help and guidance. I now understand that there is no global
search facility across all database fields.
Can you give me some guidance as to how to search the notes fields please. Is
there a video guide on this?
I have looked at the search facilities but cannot see how to do the search.
Thanks
Mike

I'm a bit confused because your subject is "Search information in Notes"
and then you say "a global search on all data". Do you mean that "Grange Farm"
might be within any of the 6 Notes fields?

Unfortunately, Legacy can only search on 3 criteria at a time so to cover all
the Notes fields you would need to Search twice.

There isn't a global Search which searches every field in the database.
