Sorry Sandra, I forgot about Step 1. As I was writing my reply I had a nagging
feeling there was something I was missing, but couldn’t work out what. The
reason I don't actually use Step 1 is that it gives a false record at times. By
that I mean it appears to show *ALL* children of a couple, when actually they
aren't. Best explained by example. My first husband had 4 children to his first
wife. Then we had a child of our own. Correctly, those 5 children show up under
our marriage. However, I have since remarried, to a man who had two children
with his first wife. Under our marriage I see my first husband's four children,
my own daughter, and my second husband's two children. Now the first four
children have nothing to do with my second husband, and I don't want them
showing in our marriage. So, I choose NOT to Show half siblings, but in the
cases where I want to see half siblings I add all children to their natural
parents, and to the marriage of the natural parent with the step parent.
Cheers

RE: [LegacyUG] Half Siblings

2012-09-14 Thread Jan Roberts
True half-siblings (i.e. they share one parent) can be shown by checking Show
Half siblings (click on the siblings icon below any individual – at the bottom
of the box that appears there is a tick box for Show Half brothers and
sisters). It will show for all families with half-siblings. To have
step-children included you need to attach the children to the marriage of the
natural parent and the step-parent (as well as their birth parents if you
wish). You can also use the Child Status box (right click on each child as
required and select Children’s settings) to designate step-child of father or
step-child of mother. This will show up in the children’s list next to their
name. You could also designate relationship to Father / Relationship to Mother
in the same place.

Thanks, I have ticked the box to Show Half brothers and sisters.
What I was wanting is a way to have a couples full list of children (full and
half) appear in the family view without having to click on the siblings icon
below an individual.
So I can tell at a glance how many children they jointly had without having to
go through each set of parents and link children manually.

There are two places you have to use to turn on the display of
half-siblings:

1. On the family view: right click on any child, select View show 1/2
kids
2. In the sibling list: Open the sibling list and select Show half
brothers and sisters.

There are two show 1/2 sibling settings. One is on the sibling list,
that is probably where you turned yours on, and one on the Family View.

To turn on 1/2 siblings in family view:
Right click on any child.
Select View from the drop down menu
Select show 1/2 kids from the drop down view menu

To turn on 1/2 siblings in the sibling list:
Open the sibling list
click to put a check mark in the show half brothers and sisters.
