Re: [LegacyUG] Keeping track of attached documents
gc, I hear your frustration but Legacy is not a one-stop shop for all things genealogical. I've gone the whole nine yards IPTC-annotating all my image documents. If I want to narrow down what I'm looking at to include source documents with reports for other people and any other type of creative project, I can search the embedded tags. - JL JLog - simple computer technology for genealogists http://www.jgen.ws/jlog On 5/13/2010 11:41 AM, Gary A Crull wrote: > Right now, I don't know if/why I might want to generate a report. Re: [LegacyUG] Keeping track of attached documents
The advantage of typing them is for the content to show up in Reports. If I type out an obit (and it's not that hard) it becomes part of a report for that person. What's the point otherwise? Printing photos of source documents in the Legacy reports, where that's an option, will give you a small thumbnail, not a full size document that anyone could read anyway. Having the images attached to Legacy makes them immediately available for viewing. I think that's the point. - JL JLog - simple computer technology for genealogists http://www.jgen.ws/jlog On 5/13/2010 11:41 AM, Gary A Crull wrote: > Right now, I don't know if/why I might want to generate a report. But having them attached in Legacy means you always know you've got them when they're needed! Like you, I don't believe in typing out all the contents of a document when I have it attached (except occasionally - usually for brief newspaper items - when I want the text in the Event Notes) but I do like my Source Documents to be attached whenever possible so it is easy to call them up when I need to look at them. -- Jenny M Benson Legacy User Group guidelines: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Etiquette.asp Archived messages after Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergroup@legacyusers.com/ Archived messages from old mail server - before Nov. 21 2009: http://www.mail-archive.com/legacyusergr...@legacyfamilytree.com/ Online technical support: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/Help.asp To unsubscribe: http://www.LegacyFamilyTree.com/LegacyLists.asp

Re: [LegacyUG] Keeping track of attached documents
I thought that might be what you meant, but I'm not sure if that's possible within Legacy. Generally, though, I think the Picture Gallery is not the right place to attach source documents, and that's how I regard obits, marriage licenses, etc. In the case of a marriage license, I would quote the Master Source, then attach the image to the Source Detail. In the case of an obit, I type out the contents using "Transcript", enter it in Death Notes for the individual, cite the Master Source (the newspaper name) then attach the image to Source Detail.
