Will you be good enough to look over the changes? Of course, if the repo came with these tags laready in place, that whole section of the page could go away. Thanks, Terry. I'll take a look - we've been talking quite a bit about cleaning this page and I see that you're adding and cleaning it up. Was wondering if you'd be willing (if not let me know and I'll take a stab at it) to do a couple things to the page. I will be glad to continue hacking at the page. 1. Can you add a note that says if the bibisect shows the bug the entire time (ie. it's prebibisect) to mark the version as 3.5beta0 in FDO - this is the best we can do currently - and add prebibisect to whiteboard. Done: https://wiki.**documentfoundation.org/index.** php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisect**diff=73158oldid=73157https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisectdiff=73158oldid=73157 . 2. Rearrange the page just a bit - I think logically a) Intro b) Limitations c) Download stuff d) how to bibisect (currently in a different location) e) Bug that need bibisected f) troubleshooting Done: https://wiki.**documentfoundation.org/index.** php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisect**diff=73146oldid=73144https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisectdiff=73146oldid=73144 I think only one change there but it makes more sense intrinsically to me. 3. Another minor thing that I see is in versions it says bibisect40bugs for bugs that need bibisecting - as far as I know every bug that needs bibisected is bibisectrequest - I haven't seen the 4.0 and 4.0+ (daily) differentiated - perhaps I missed something though :) BZ shows no bugs with “bibisect40” in either the Whiteboard or Keywords. I changed it: https://wiki.**documentfoundation.org/index.** php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisect**diff=73155oldid=73151https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/index.php?title=QA%2FHowToBibisectdiff=73155oldid=73151 I remember from June that the linked bugzilla queries use a baffling veriety of selection criteria. Do you have an idea about whether there is a reason for this variety? Or is it something that “just happened”? Thanks Terry for tackling this how to wiki - it has a lot going on there so the cleaner and simpler we make it the better. Hah! We haven't even started on the witheboard statuses and prescribed comments for reporting the results. The page already has a lot of instructions conditioned by the tester's choice of bibisect download. I only foresee that getting worse: there are three bibisect versions, and each can be unhelpful when the regression is off either end. (Yes, a regression newer than the 40+ version is plausible. I went weeks without updating my download after an attempted update hung for days showing an ETA of a hundred odd days.) Among the unseccssful cases, only the determination that a regression is older than the OVA or 40 repositories marks the end of the search. How much should we try to track in the whiteboard status? If you're busy or just don't want to do it just let me know - I didn't want to be editing over you :) I am happy to continue. Knowing that someone is checking my work frees me to make bigger changes. Thanks, Terry, good job on updating the page Terry .. The problem are not the few moments you invest in closing. The problem is that this Status info will be worrying because it's not in accordance with current habits; it might make queries less reliable. Currently it's more or less common sense to proceed as following: Status of a bug will be changed to RESOLVED FIXED (by the developer) if the fix has been introduced into the most early Version where possible and planned. With RESOLVED FIXED the work on that bug normally is terminated. RESOLVED FIXED may be changed to VERIFIED FIXED if someone did intensive tests what proved that the bug is really fixed AND that no other problems seem to be caused by the fix. Only a quick test fix works is not sufficient. Sometimes Bugs become resolution CLOSED as a kind of exclamation mark with the implicit statement Work on this bug is definitively terminated, discussion finished, if there were insecurities, objections, ... . For example this might be appropriate if someone found out that although there is a fix the problem still exists under particular circumstances. The question was whether the fix is incomplete (or does not work), or whether that is a new different bug only showing similar symptoms. CLOSED indicates that the discussion has been terminated with the result that work on this bug really has been terminated with the fix. I will write some more elaborated and precise notes at https://wiki.** documentfoundation.org/QA-FAQ https://wiki.documentfoundation.org/QA-FAQ and recommend to discuss that on a ESC call (and may be on a QA call) if there are concerns or objections. Everybody should follow the current habits or a decision of ESC to keep queries reliable. I will keep you up to date here in this thread. Should I put myself (actually, my mail address ;-) into that field if I “take” a bug for QA, i.e. when I feel as the (most) responsible bugwrangler for a particular bug? Re: [Libreoffice-qa] Esc Call Notes

Calc (3.6) crashing 1. bugs discussed, we need to go through the Unconfirmed and verify. The NEW ones are being looked at by the developers 2. HardHacks 1. Previous email sent out, we need to finalize the process 2. Developers have gone through the hard hacks, a continuous list is preferred (max of 5-7 bugs at a time, refilling these as they are taken care of is best 3. See previous email for suggestions 3. Triaging 1. Begged for more help for back log ;), some interested but suggestion of bug hunting session. Time difference could be an issue, can someone else in Europe try to arrange this? If it's over the weekend I may be able to join, otherwise very hard 2. There are 30ish students from Hungary (I believe?) doing development, asked for more EasyHacks to work on, I suggested that maybe they could help triage and maybe find their own EasyHacks (not sure what the result of this was) 4. EasyHacks 1. Like above, need more EasyHacks marked, people are available to deal with them but there aren't enough out there 2. My comment: I'm seeing things marked as EasyHack without the entire list of things that we usually should put for easy hack (particularly bt if possible, and some direction as to where to look in the code) 5. MAB 1. There really shouldn't be any put to 3.7 from what I understood 6. Resolved Status 1. Only mark as Resolved if it's resolved in latest stable, not if it only works in latest master (a comment can be put in if it's working on latest master) 2. WORKSFORME unless you know for sure the bug was assigned and dealt with by a developer, in which case ask them to mark as RESOLVED - FIXED or mark it yourself (again only if you're sure that it wasn't just coincidentally fixed, or just works for you and you're not sure if the particular bug was dealt with) 7. Issues regarding rudeness on FDO 1. Michael dealt with the one case, banning a user is probably more problematic than it's worth. 2. Creating a wiki page (Joel) to kind of address this, something along the lines of What is not useful in reporting a bug I think that was about it, if I missed something, my apologies. Best Regards, Joel I have a question about the old Bug ticket dating back to 2011. How long should we keep a ticket open if we are requesting additional information on the ticket. is it safe to resolved them to resolvedinvalid ? -- -- Masekela Walls Web Security Analyst | Senior Server Administrator Powserve.com / Gemini ISP Networks ___ List Name: Libreoffice-qa mailing list Mail address: Libreoffice-qa@lists.freedesktop.org Change settings: http://lists.freedesktop.org/mailman/listinfo/libreoffice-qa Problems? http://www.libreoffice.org/get-help/mailing-lists/how-to-unsubscribe/ Posting guidelines + more: http://wiki.documentfoundation.org/Netiquette List archive: http://lists.freedesktop.org/archives/libreoffice-qa/

Re: [Libreoffice-qa] How Can I Provide More Info For Developers
Qa should run backtraces for the dev team. The dev team can focus on implementing the fixes. We should not ask end users to perform the traces. If they are comfortable with doing it . Then this is great. As I was told the wiki is for contributors and not end users.
