No need to be condescending. Presumably you subscribed for a reason and the
only reason it is now annoying to you is that you are no longer interested.

I did a search and found this
http://www.mail-archive.com/libretto@basiclink.com/msg16212.html> that
has instructions for how to unsubscribe. They used to be appeneded to the
end of each message sent to the list, not sure why that stopped.

   --Jim Dempsey--
>From that link:

**
---TO UNSUBSCRIBE---
Reply to any of the list messages. The reply mail should be addressed
to: libretto@basiclink.com - Then replace any text on the message's
subject line with: cmd:unsubscribe
 TO UNSUBSCRIBE DIGEST--
Do above but with this on subject line: cmd:unsubscribe digest
**

So do this:

1. Address an email to: libretto@basiclink.com
. . By replying to any list message, this will be done automatically.

2. Delete any text in the email's Subject field if any exists, and type this:

cmd:unsubscribe

. . Or if you're subscribed to the digest, put this in the subject field:

cmd:unsubscribe digest

3. Then send the email.

You'll then get email back from the list server confirming the fact that you've
been unsubscribed.

Over the years... many, many people have not gotten that right. All kinds of
combinations of those characters have shown up. Let me make this as clear as I
possibly can.

The characters have to be typed into the subject field EXACTLY as I typed them
above. That means the characters I typed above which appear AFTER the colon (:)
and the space that follows it (: ).

Let me repeat what has to be put into the subject line of the email:

==

To unsubscribe from the list, type JUST THESE CHARACTERS into the subject field:

cmd:unsubscribe

To unsubscribe from the digest, type JUST THESE CHARACTERS into the subject
field:

cmd:unsubscribe digest

==

Well, it'll essentially behave the same way as the vast majority of
mailing lists worldwide. Important differences between every other
mailing list manager and SVList (IIRC the remailer software that runs
this list) include:

* proper reference preservation (which would let any email program worth
  its salt handle conversation threading)
* a saner method of list administration (separate addresses for
  sub/unsub/etc., rather than a fragile subject-line-based mechanism)

Well, time and technology have marched on, and I'm perfectly happy to
help host this list on a decent mailing list manager (ezmlm) that can
handle all of:

  unsubscribe
  unscribble
  unsubscribble
  get-me-off-this-friggin-list
  IGiveUp

and whatever other variants hapless unsubscribblers try. 8-)

Well. you could talk to Dan Seiden... though it seems he's got his new
server software tweaked at this point. Haven't seen the list clog up and
shut down in quite some time. You can email him at [EMAIL PROTECTED] and
see what he thinks.

What would be different with a ezmlm installation other than dealing with
unscribblers?

I still think that Dan needs to add the word "with" in order to avoid
further confusion.

The line:

"Then replace any text on the message's subject line: cmd:unsubscribe"

Should read:

"Then replace any text on the message's subject line with: cmd:unsubscribe"

Or, to avoid confusion because of word wrapping in that last sentence I
typed... the last portion of that sentence should be seen as:

"..on the message's subject line with: cmd:unsubscribe"

All without the quotes of course.

I must say that it does seem that most people DO in fact figure all this out
pretty well.

I'll make it quick the command is "cmd:unsubscribe" and not just "unsubscribe",
"cmd unsubscribe", "unsubscribble" or any permutation thereof - look at the footers
attached to every email if you want details. People who mess this up tend to become
the source of a great deal of humour in this channel but I think its growing a little
old now ...
