GDP docs: http://web.uvic.ca/~gperciva/ We have a second "final version" of LM 2 Tutorial. Please have a look at this; if no further mistakes are found, it will be sent to the translators. It's still possible to change text after it's been translated, but it makes extra work for them, so I'd really rather catch mistakes in the tutorial _now_. We're also proud to advertise the first draft of LM 3 Fundamental concepts. Take a look at it; let us know any problems, or if there's anything you consider fundamental that isn't covered in there, or whatever. Ehm, because i've been texing for about half a year now I only /start/ to
understand what's all about that fonts and encodings stuff~
I installed hlatex next to CJK.sty etc to get the power of both; it seems
now logical not being able to use T1 next to HFSS!-? ...though in his
documentation of hlatex Mr Un used a glyph that looks like \ding{43}~
You may google for "hlguide.pdf", it's on p22 then.
The latest stage with my Korean folksong is that I just happily finished
"cleaning" it -- what just means all the notes and lyrics are "wellformed"
and positioned and formatted correctly now :-)
The lilypond code is nested as a paragraph in a .tex with CJK.sty-document.
And it may be from interest, though the default font is MyoungJo the Hangul
lyrics came out in 고딕 ('gotik', what's equivalent to 'sans serif'); so I
guess
sans serif is the default family for lyrics in lilypond (and latex).
How to change the font is explained in
"GNU LilyPond.html | 8.1.7 Font Selection" (resp. "lilypond.pdf") but, I
still can't cope with it~ Anyhow, usable fonts can be found with
$ lilypond -dshow-available-fonts blabla | more ...and there are hundreds.

One eps file per page
Hi, I've read several articles on the list concerning the fact that lilypond-book doesn't take the exact page spacing into account. Now I'm experiencing the same problem and I wonder whether lilypond can't create simply one eps file per page. lilypond -dbackend=eps -dno-gs-load-fonts -dinclude-eps-fonts *.ly creates one file per page, but the spacing gets lost. Do I have to extract the eps files from the pdf file lilypond normally creates? Line breaking is done per-score, while page-breaking is done per-book.
Therefore things that control the page-breaking generally have no effect in a
\layout block.

auto-beaming in uncommon time signatures
Howdy!
I'm experiencing some unusual behavior with beaming that I can't seem to
correct.In 12/16 time, if the Score.beatlength is set to 6/16, lilypond
correctly produces two groupings of 6 notes each. However, changing the
beatLength to 3/16 produces inconsistent beaming within a measure: 2-4-3-3
instead of 3-3-3-3. Can someone explain why this is happening, and how to
correct this?

Hi, I just had my first trials with XeteX today: it works!
The trick is only to use the ifxetex package. It provides the \ifxetex \else
\fi environment. You just have to put everything sepcific to xetex into the
first part, that is, mainly everything about font specification. You will
have to use this also in the main text if you want to make xetex specific
font switiching there. I guess the \else part can even be empty as it just
enables the lilypond run with latex. Or then you could define the utf8
option here. I just included some non latin scripts in my document and it
compiled without complaint about any encoding problems and so on.l i just
can say: GREAT.

I saw the announcement about page-count being added to the \paper{}
possibilities and I was thrilled to see it as I had been wanting just
exactly that. I've found that it does not work within \layout{}. Other
things like system-count seem to be working with a \layout{} block but
page-count doesn't. Is this to be expected, or should it also work in
\layout{} as well? It would certainly be useful for controlling page
counts in numerous scores being typeset together.

The text file is processed by LilyPond and outputs a PDF of the finished music. Is that normal? If so, then what? This text is your music, coded in a form (called LilyPond input language, not LilyPad) that the LilyPond program itself compiles into the PDF and MIDI forms. In theory you could save the file with a ".ly" extension and make LilyPond to process it. If you want to learn the language, please read carefully the tutorials and other documentation in the lilypond.org website, and you'll certainly be able to do whatever you want with these scores.
