Is this really our concern and something that needs to be discussed here.

I think we have gone as far as needed here with this topic.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bemis Event-Update -What we know to be and comments...correction

2022-05-04 Thread Sara Mattes
This had been a subject of lots of conversation on LT.
The individual listed as “host” has publicly (on LT) stated that his name was
used in error, and that the true applicant/host was Edie Risser.
This is not “exposing”anyone.

The phone number and address is also public information, if anyone cares to
open the Lincoln phone book or do a Google search.

I would expect a sponsor to be proud of hosting their event.
Why would they not?
Would they not want to extend a “welcoming” invitation?

Why would you characterize identifying the sponsor as “exposing” them?

As an event sponsor, it is common to provide background information about
speakers-background, publications, appearances, etc., etc.
That is the usual course of promotion-expressing pride in choice of topic and
speakers.

How is this different?

Last time I checked the elections are over, the Mid-Terms are coming in
November so who really cares what others think. As I have stated Hillary
Clinton is on record thinking the 2016 election was "illegitimate", either we
consider both lies are neither lies. I am on the side that both were sore
losers and both lost their respectful elections in a legitimate fashion by
voters voting for their candidates and one declared the POTUS.
I am not sure what to make of the mask comments but every person has the right
to choose on their own whether they should wear a mask at any time, and that
right is a personal choice and should be and no one should ever be shamed

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bemis Event-Update -What we know to be and comments

I have heard rumblings that Edie Risser is a Ms. not a Mr..

Hall for what may be political event is protected by the First Amendment. The
unanimous decision, earlier this week, by the Supreme Court said that Boston
could not deny a request by an organization to fly a flag at City Hall where
other organizations had been given an OK.An application must be submitted and,
in some cases, a fee paid. The applicant for this event is Lincoln resident Edie
Risser. We do not know if Mr. Risser has made arrangements for Public Safety to
be in attendance.

The event has been advertised through email invitations that have now been
widely circulated here.
The event has also been advertised
regionally:https://mafa-ma.com/community-calendar/(Comment-the other events

The main speaker has a national media presence and has been featured in a

The second speaker listed has less of a presence. He recently ran for Mayor in

Comments:While it may distress some to have an event in Lincoln, in a
town-owned building, where speakers might espouse beliefs diametrically opposed

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bemis Hall Rental rules

2022-05-04 Thread john gregg via Lincoln

So I am just trying to figure out who is the real threat to Democracy, the
person who's speech and thoughts people do not like or the ones who are trying
to shut down and censor that speech?
This is not exactly my cup of tea but the basic concept of Democracy is built
on the ability to speak your voice and for others to disagree, not just stop
speech anyone does not agree with. Sometimes when more attention is given to an
irrelevant voice or subject it becomes more relevant just by the attention. Let
the people who want to attend do so under the rights for people to voice their
views and thoughts as they choose, so long as they are not breaking any laws.

[LincolnTalk] Bemis Hall Rental rules

2022-05-04 Thread Louis Zipes
I don’t disagree that the person has the right to speak. That is correct. I
also agree that this conversation on LT is giving oxygen to a subject that
most (notice I’m not saying all) find abhorrent.

Whether he has the right to speak at Bemis based on the rules for the
facility is another matter. Who is the Lincoln person and/or group who set
this up? If that person or group is from Lincoln then once again probably
‘fine’. The rules are the rules.

The problem seems to be that something was booked under possibly spurious
circumstances and Bemis/Lincoln conveys a legitimacy that booking a
conference room at a Marriott or a setting up in a dirt patch in the middle
of a field doesn’t.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bemis Lecture-NOT!

2022-05-04 Thread Sara Mattes
This is not a Bemis Lecture, it is a public event being held by a private in
Bemis Hall.

Bemis Hall is a public facility and open for use, as such.
It is a First Amendment issue-free speech in the public square.
The unanimous ruling by the SJC earlier this week made clear that the town
cannot discriminate as to who is allowed to use the hall, provided they follow
the policies for use, as laid out by the town.
Forms must be completed and a fee paid.

All that has been done, and now, the names on the application for use have been
corrected.
The fee has been paid.

The speaker has a right to speak.
You man choose not to attend, as have I.

I'm afraid I haven't been following this closely enough. Why is it that
Bemis Hall can't just tell the guy to forget it, the Hall's not available?
If there's a deposit, return it. Is Bemis Hall considered part of the
government of Lincoln such that First Amendment issues preclude telling him
to take a hike? I think I read that he was not forthcoming when the Hall
was engaged. I mean, would Trump have a right to come and speak his lies
at Bemis Hall?

https://us06web.zoom.us/meeting/register/tZAtdeqgrjMpHN3TiQswmK5Jifp97jzS8x2c

After registering, you will receive a confirmation email containing information
about joining the meeting.

Hearing from our stakeholders is an important part of this process. On May 5th
we will be using the scheduled School Committee time to hold a Strategic
Planning Community Forum. This session will be virtual to encourage greater
community participation. The session will consist of sharing context about
where we are as a district and the direction that we are headed in followed by
breakout group conversations that allow us to hear from our stakeholders about
what is important to you and where you feel we should be placing our resources
and focus.

We encourage LPS employees, parents and family members, students, and community
members to join the District Administration Team and School Committee to share
your thoughts and ideas. The input gathered during this forum will inform the
work of the Administration and the School Committee as we develop our
priorities for the coming school year.
Pre-registration is required and will help us to plan the event to ensure it is
efficient and effective based upon the number of participants present.
Information about this year’s Strategic Priorities and the Strategic Maps that
outline specific actions and outcomes can be found on the Superintendent’s
webpage.

We look forward to partnering with you to ensure that we provide our students
with educational experiences that meet all of their varied needs.

All the best,
Becky McFall, Superintendent

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bemis Hall Thursday evening

2022-05-04 Thread Lis Herbert
This may take another 18 hours to be approved, but I sent that email at 12:45
yesterday, based on what the town calendar displayed.

I have been reading the emails closely, but still don’t understand how such a
mix-up could have happened. An explanation of the mechanics of entering one
name in lieu of another would be helpful.

*Masks now optional in the Lincoln Public Library*

The Lincoln Board of Health (BOH) voted to rescind the town-wide indoor
mask mandate effective Monday, March 14, 2022, in response to substantially
improved and positively trending public health data, including Lincoln’s
high vaccination rate.

Residents with weakened immune systems or at increased risk of severe
Covid-19 disease because of age or medical conditions, or who have a
household member at such increased risk, are advised by the Lincoln BOH and
the Commonwealth’s Department of Public Health (DPH) to continue to wear a
mask when indoors other than in their home, even if they are vaccinated.

We encourage the public to continue to wear masks in accordance with their
own comfort level and in compliance with the DPH guidelines cited above.
Private establishments may continue to *require masks upon entry.*

*Updated indoor mask use recommendation as of April 14, 2022*: “Due to
recent data showing an increase in positive COVID-19 cases, the Board of
Health members voted last night to strongly recommend that people wear
masks in public indoor spaces until early May as we see how the infection
rate from the new BA-2 variant evolves over the next few weeks after spring
vacation.”

[LincolnTalk] reading and replying to Lincoln Talk messages

2022-05-04 Thread Rich Rosenbaum
I would like to highly recommend that before replying to a Lincoln Talk
message please carefully read *all* of the replies (if any) to the message
to which you are replying.

This is not a new issue. Often people seem to read an original message and
then immediately hit the Reply button. It often results in repetitive and
even incorrect information. At best this is a waste of time for other
readers.

[LincolnTalk] Pollen season is here . . . Have your car cleaned at the 8th grade car wash!

2022-05-04 Thread Cathie B
Dear Lincoln community,

Our 8th graders are getting ready to graduate! Unfortunately, they weren’t
able to have any dances or bake sales again this year, which are the usual
sources of funds, so they need to do some serious fundraising now to cover
graduation expenses. Funds raised will support the cost of the graduation
celebration and the traditional class gift to the school.

Please help them reach their goal by participating in their car wash
on *Saturday,
May 21 at the Town Hall from 10 am to 3 pm (rain date: May 22)*. You can
purchase a ticket for a car wash ($20) and/or make a donation at the
following link:

https://car-wash-fundraiser-for-lincoln-8th-grade-graduatio-80148.cheddarup.com

*This is their one opportunity to raise the needed funds, so please
consider making a donation.* This cohort has been particularly impacted by
COVID, missing out on *all* the major middle school field trips (and
dances, and many enrichment activities), so we really hope to make this an
extra special graduation! Our 8th graders have risen to the challenge and
we hope the community will do the same and support them now.

Thank you!

Lis,

I believe that question would have to be answered by the folks at Bemis
Hall, as I agree -- it is very disappointing that an individual's name or
an organization could be listed as the host without their knowledge or
consent.

[LincolnTalk] Speaking event POC and my thoughts

2022-05-04 Thread Adam M Hogue
Dear Lincoln,

If anyone has questions or concerns about the speaking event on Thursday please
contact the host and organizer of the event Edie Risser at
edie.mac...@verizon.net

Also, if anyone who knows me or takes the time to ask or has ever looked at my
social media I have never once questioned the election results. Even here in
town, I have run and lost a lot but never question the results of myself or
candidates I support. I love good healthy debate and talking about issues.

In the future if people have questions for me this is my email and cell number
is people. I love talking to my neighbors and please reach out instead of
posting stuff before you have all the informations. Mistakes and
miscommunications happen. Let’s be welcoming and nice to each other and
actually talk to each other.

Yes, I know I am different and might think differently about some issues but
aways happy to debate, talk and listen as well as act in a professional way.
Over the last 10 years I have taken time away from my family to service this
community and give back as much as I can because if we don’t serve our
communities nothing can change.

Thanks for listening and please reach out to me in the future.

Dust off your wigs, platforms, and polyester because Club Codman is finally

Costumes from the swinging sixties to today’s festival wear are very popular
and encouraged. Don’t miss it!
