Re: [LincolnTalk] Lincoln Food Pantry Request

2022-08-12 Thread Karen Boyce
Going to Costco? The Frito-Lay Classic Mix is on sale! We always need
small bags of potato chips and usually can not provide them as we focus on
protein and healthy food for our clients, But, who doesn't need a potato
chip? The boxes of potato chips are $5.00 off making a box $14.99 instead
of $19.99. These are terrific for snacks and school lunches. (There is a
five box limit for this box that holds 54 bags/box).

Also Nature Valley Oats 'N Honey Crunchy Granola Bars are $4.00 off.
(there is a 10 box limit). Not sure of this price.

These items store well and will be a big hit with our clients. The sale at
Costco ends on August 28 but we would love to receive these by our next
pantry distribution on August 24 and 25.

However, if you are not at Costco and would like to donate to us, we
continue to need salad dressings, white tuna in water, relish, mayonnaise,
soy sauce, teriyaki sauce, ketchup, gluten-free items, non-dairy shelf
milk, taco mix boxes, ramen noodles, V-8 juice and any non-refrigerated
juices, etc. Boxed cookies are always appreciated, as well. Even one
donation of any of these items is appreciated very much, so no donation is
too small (or too big!)

You can leave any item that you donate on the porch at 142 Lincoln Road,
(Rear). There are blue bins for donations. The bigger items, like the
Frito-Lay Boxes, can be left on the porch beside the bins. Volunteers bring
items into the pantry all day.

Thank you for considering the Lincoln Food Pantry for your kind donations.
Remember to check your labels to be sure the items you donate are in-date.

And remember...Monetary donations are always appreciated. Checks can be
sent to SVdP P.O. Box 324 Lincoln, MA 01773.

Thank you very much. We are "neighbors helping neighbors"

[LincolnTalk] Filigree Private Event and Concert - Join us!

2022-08-12 Thread Cj Sizer
Are you an early music enthusiast? Join Filigree Ensemble for their Launch
Party! You will enjoy wine, hor d'oeuvres and a sneak preview of our
upcoming concert. Co-founded by local musician Kim Leeds (who performs
regularly with Handel and Haydn Society and Blue Heron), Filigree pushes
the boundaries of modern historical performance and reshapes the modern
concert experience.

The first concert, August 20th, 4:00PM at the Lilypad in Cambridge, MA will
feature an hour’s worth of early Baroque Italian music that shows off the
crackle and fire of improvised early music ornamentation. Check out one of
the pieces to be performed at the concert: Amor Jesu Dulcissime
.

The Launch Party will be held on August 19th from 6pm-7:30pm in Lincoln. We
welcome fellow classical music enthusiasts to share food, drink, music, and
ideas of what Filigree can bring to the table in a metropolitan area
already known for its high quality early music. To attend the Launch Party,
email filigree.ensem...@gmail.com.

[LincolnTalk] textile (clothing) recycling

2022-08-12 Thread June L Matthews
Hi, all. I am in the process of purging my closet of older dresses and skirts
that I no longer wear. Most items are perfectly wearable, not soiled or
damaged in any way (though there might occasionally be a missing button). In
the past I have donated stuff to Goodwill. Does anyone know what Goodwill
actually does with their clothing donations? Would Bay State Textiles be a
better bet? – I have a pretty good idea of what they do. A tax receipt is not
important to me. I would like to see this clothing used (as clothing) if
possible, rather than torn up into rags or whatever. The items probably are
not “good” enough or fashionable enough to be of interest to a consignment
store.

Any suggestions?

Thanks, June

I have had the same question in the past and never got a definite
answer. I also would be very interested in finding a place to donate
wearable clothing that won't just recycle the items.

2022-08-12 Thread Sara Mattes
I take clothes to the St.Vincent de Paul bin behind St.Julia’s Church in Weston
Center.
I go there because I know there is more direct use of clothing and/or $$ from
sales that goes to programming and people in need.
Think Lincoln Food Pantry and the St.VdP Lincoln Emergency Fund-all volunteer
run.
There is a much smaller bureaucratic structure than GoodWill.

[LincolnTalk] Natural gas price increase

2022-08-12 Thread Christina Thompson
I just had a conversation with someone at National Grid about my gas bill
and was told that, yes, there had been a price increase. Apparently the
price of gas in March 2021 was $.58/therm. In March 2022 it was $.94/therm.
I haven't seen much talk about it, but this strikes me as an outrageous
rate of increase, even in an inflationary environment.

I suspect the price increase has less to do with National Grid's profit
margins than with the price of natural gas supplies in the US.

Re: [LincolnTalk] textile (clothing) recycling

2022-08-12 Thread Alice Waugh
The Bay State Textiles bins at the landfill and the school take everything
— decent clothing down to torn-up washcloths and old undergarments. The
stuff is either resold as used clothing, torn up into wipes for machinery,
or shredded into fiber. See the textiles section in this story:
