[LincolnTalk] Job Posting: Audio-Visual Coordinator

2023-03-10 Thread FPL Communications
Job Posting: Audio Visual Coordinator
First Parish in Lincoln seeks a part-time Audio-Visual Coordinator to oversee
and assist with the use of audio-visual technology supporting the work of the
church.
Hours: 3-5 hours/week
Sundays during the FPL church year (Sunday after Labor Day-Second Sunday of
June) from 9am-12:00pm; plus additional hours to cover livestreaming for
special services or events.
Pay: $35/hour
Description
The Audio-Visual Coordinator will manage our congregation’s AV needs for in
person and online worship on Sunday mornings, as well as special services and
events at other times as available.
On Sundays, they will arrive at 9:00am to turn on and set up all parts of our
AV/Livestreaming system to ensure they are working properly, then produce the
livestream and push it to an established link so that remote participants can
join the service.
During the service the coordinator will manage production of the livestream
(via Wirecast), selecting camera angles, zooms, managing microphones and audio
levels, managing accompanying slides, and captions and confirming that the
livestream is functioning.
After the service, they will manage a post-worship Virtual Coffee Hour. In the
event of a post-worship presentation (usually twice/month), they will continue
to operate the livestream until the presentation is over. Responsibilities on
Sunday morning should therefore wrap up between 11:30am to 12:30pm depending on
the week.
The AV Coordinator will manage our tech needs for special services and events
throughout the year that also need to be livestreamed, such as Christmas Eve
and Good Friday, as well as adult education programs, weddings, and memorial
services.
They will provide technological support and expertise for FPL’s various
programs in consultation with the church AV Committee and other staff. They
will meet with this committee regularly and help guide ongoing improvements to
our Audio/Visual systems. They will also train lay volunteers in the use of our
AV systems.
To Apply: You may apply by sending your resume and an email stating your
interest to Rev. Nate Klug at n...@fplincoln.org.

[LincolnTalk] Peter Buchthal for School Committee - Discussion of high attrition at our schools

2023-03-10 Thread Peter Buchthal
Dear Lincoln Residents,

My name is Peter Buchthal and I am running for one of the two open Lincoln
School Committee Seats. I believe in the value of a great public
education. I feel lucky that I grew up in Scarsdale, New York, which has
one of the strongest Public School systems in the country. After
Scarsdale, I went to Carnegie-Mellon University and graduated at the top of
my class. I then worked at IBM and Oracle Corporation for a couple of
years. I left Oracle to serially start two successful Oracle related
businesses that I grew from nothing, hired employees, raised capital, built
a product, gained customers around the world and eventually sold the
businesses to public companies. I know how to see and understand the
needs of customers and solve problems.

Even though Lincoln is only K-8, I believe Lincoln could be one of the best
school districts in the Boston area. However, I am troubled by the high
attrition of current students when compared against many other school
systems in our area. I have been told by many that some Lincoln families
pull their children out of the school and send their children to Private
School. Some of these neighboring districts (i.e. Weston, Lexington) are
also very affluent like Lincoln, but their students do not leave their
school systems in similar numbers. As a School Committee member, I would
prioritize learning the reasons families are voting with their feet and try
to improve our school to meet more of our school family needs. I promise
to be open and transparent with our findings.

The data below comes from here
https://profiles.doe.mass.edu/statereport/attrition.aspx and reflects % of
attrition by grade (students not returning following year). Given how low
the turnover of housing is in Lincoln, the root cause is not people moving
out of town. In case anyone hypothesizes that our high attrition is due to
our higher METCO percentages, the conclusions don’t change even when we
isolate METCO out. I believe it is very important for School Committee
members to not only look at Lincoln data (as normally provided by the
School administration), *but also the data from neighboring towns.*

Re: [LincolnTalk] Wedding Cake Recommendations

You might want to consider Concord Teacakes in West Concord, excellent but on
the expensive side. You might want to check out their website, they do an
outstanding business.

[LincolnTalk] Steinway piano free to a good home

2023-03-10 Thread Rainer Frost
We are offering for free an upright Steinway piano that was built in 1902. It
plays and is tunable. In the short run, in order to hold tuning well, it would
need a process called "doping the block" that costs around $300.
To restore it to its original condition would cost ~$4-6,000.
To move it out of the house will require a rigging crane, so the move to your
house would cost ~$1400. (Price from Mike Griffen, a great piano mover.)
Any serious inquiries need to be received by March 15.
Kind regards,
Rainer

Re: [LincolnTalk] Community Center Design Team Announcement

2023-03-10 Thread Michael Dembowski
Alice, thank you for the link to the Lincoln Squirrel article.
And thanks to the one person who suggested I opt in to receive
what information the committee has posted about its meetings.

My questions, however, remain unanswered - no one has offered a response on
LT or thru personal email - and, yes, I have checked the spam folder.
More surprisingly, my questions have sparked no dialogue - NONE - which is
truly an anomaly with this town and this forum. Lincoln? Bueller?

The School Project Building Committee clearly set the bar with
communications and community engagement to lead a project through to a
successful town vote.
Even at the earliest stages, I easily recall the wide public notifications
given of architect interviews - which I attended and participated in.

So it begs the question - why is this process so markedly different? -
especially as it necessarily will require the same town vote and approval?

[LincolnTalk] FS: "All Creatures Great & Small" Seasons 1 & 2 DVDs

2023-03-10 Thread Steve Hirsch via Lincoln
For sale: DVDs (not blu-ray) of "All Creatures Great & Small" Seasons 1 & 2.
Unopened. Bought in December as a Christmas gift but the giftee already had
them .
This combo currently sells for $70 on amazon (which is considerably less than I
paid on PBS.org especially after their goug-ey shipping ).
I'd like to get $60 for the pair (or $30 for either).
LMK if interested?
If no takers, I will return them to PBS. (and ironically, probably get more
back in the refund than I'm asking here, but, Im always happy to thrift-shop
with fellow Lincoln-ers and really it was just foolish of me to buy from PBS in
the first place🤨😅)
So anyway... please reply or text/call if interested? (781-801-6265)

As the daughter of a harpsichord maker, I have some experience with different
types of keyboards and their value. Steinway pianos were at their zenith,
technically, between roughly 1900 and 1910. I have an upright that was built
in 1906, and it has only had to be tuned once in the ten years I've owned it,
and has marvelous sound. Of course, I don't know anything about the specific
piano that Rainer is offering, but if it is in decent shape, this would be a
great instrument to own and play.
