[LincolnTalk] Seeking 8th Grade Volunteers for The Great Create!

2023-04-13 Thread Lauren Vaughan Yockel
Seeking 8th Grade Volunteers for The Great Create!

Do you have an 8th grader who loves art, problem-solving, and assisting
others? The Great Create (hosted by Lincoln School Foundation) is looking
for 8th grade volunteers to support younger students and their families as
they complete sculpture challenges at deCordova Sculpture Park and Museum
on Sunday, April 30th. 8th grade volunteers will help with setup and
cleanup; support small groups during sculpture building; and serve as a
positive role model and champion for participants.

The ideal candidate will have experience and interest in working with
children, excellent communication skills, and a collaborative spirit.
Volunteers should be willing to transport materials across deCordova’s
lawns. Art skills are not necessary – curiosity, creativity, and community
are at the heart of the program!

Volunteers need to be available at the following times: 1) Wednesday, April
26th from 1:00 - 2:15 pm for a training at deCordova with their educators
(bring a packed lunch) and 2) Sunday, April 30th from 1 pm - 4:30 pm for
setup, the event, and cleanup. If interested, please contact
lauren.yoc...@lincolnschoolfoundation.org no later than April 25th.

[LincolnTalk] Incredible bike mechanic

2023-04-13 Thread Stephen Dirrane
I wanted to share Steve’s Bike Repair in Billerica. I had gone to him 25 years
ago when he was on Mass Ave in Lexington. 40+ years experience. He just saved
two older bikes: a Cannondale crosstrack with Flight Deck and a Marin MTB. What
would’ve stumped most techs and cost over $500 at Wheelworks- was saved through
component repair and tremendous experience on the XR; he tweaked a Frankenstein
Marin to make it sing like all OEM! As he says- he puts his heart and soul in
every bike. He is a sweetheart and worth the drive. His tune ups start at $60,
amazing when he saves you so much in unnecessary parts. Pick ups and drop offs
only.
His phone is (978) 670-3766- Steve Taranto.

All 3 places are in great locations-easy walks to town centers and historic
sites.
Hawthorne Inn’s web page has been hijacked, so, you would need to call.

[LincolnTalk] Seeking To Borrow An Air Compressor

2023-04-13 Thread Forest Brown
Hey Lincoln!

I turned my galvanized steel well back on after having it turned off for the
winter. The pressure gauge went crazy, ticking back and forth. I have been
advised that the solution is to push air through it to rebalance the water/air
ratio. Before I go out and buy a portable air compressor, does anyone have one
that I can borrow?

Thank you,
Becca

He had a TV show for years that's probably available on streaming or
YouTube... has all sorts of DIY treehouse hardware and an amazing
collection of treehouses he and his team have completed... truly amazing.

Our French family consumed all the advice you provided, and they have
settled on an itinerary. They will be in the Lincoln area August 5-8. I
think it would be nice for them to stay at an AirBnb or a Bed and
Breakfast. Can anyone recommend good lodgings in the
Lincoln/Concord/Lexington area?

Re: [LincolnTalk] Tree House

2023-04-13 Thread ANDREW PANG
In Lincoln, tree houses are considered ancillary structures and require a
building permit, must meet set-back requirements from the property line and
other regulations. We've known a couple of families who got into trouble with
unpermitted tree-houses. Check with the Building Inspector's office as you
begin your planning.

I’ve decided to (try to) build a tree house - currently taking a semester off

this so any tips, tricks, or tools would be helpful!

Best,
