Hi Trish,
Several years ago I used Dr. Michael Brunelli. He is an excellent local
hand surgeon, but quite busy. I think he has 2 offices.
He was great, but I could not get in right away. He has a lot of experience!
Best,

Re: [LincolnTalk] Bears, bikes, media.

2024-05-16 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
With all due respect, did the police inform us about the home break ins in
the past year? I’ve not seen anything except for an article on the big
“bust” in which Lincoln was mentioned as one of the towns where homes were
burglarized.
I’ve also heard about other break-ins this year through word of mouth.

I spoke with 3 police departments. They all advised people to lock up bikes
or keep garaged. If nothing else, it’s a good reminder.

When our mail was stolen this fall ( FACT) and the thief tried to cash a
check, stole credit card information and gift cards ( FACTS), I learned
that our mailbox was NOT the only one compromised.

You may not hear about it, but there is theft here in our sweet little
town. I’d appreciate it if people gave ME an alert/heads up.

No good deed goes unpunished. I already apologized that I could not
substantiate the stolen bike, but I truly believe it happened nearby.

Respectfully,
Margo

[LincolnTalk] Follow Up on Bike Alert

2024-05-02 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

I am just following up on the stolen bike alert we received on Monday this
week to let you know that I have not been able to get further information.
I have called all of the surrounding police departments and they said that
they had nothing reported on Monday. I called the company from which the
message came, and they said that the message was from someone local (within
1.9 miles) but that all clients are anonymous. We live within 1.9 miles of
Sudbury, Wayland and Concord. The police said that someone local could have
sent this message out after an attempt, but never reported it to the police.
I cannot verify that it is not a hoax, but I do know that others in Lincoln
emailed me and had received the same alert. That said, I did not ask the
police to check the logs from over the past weekend.
I apologize if I caused people to become overly concerned, however, with it
being the bike to school week here, I wanted to be sure that people were
careful to keep bikes locked up and safe - just in case. I often don’t
learn about any crime in Lincoln, unless it is posted on Facebook (Lincoln
Police page). Many people do not use social media - and rely on word of
mouth. In the fall, we had our mail stolen, and I know that there have been
burglaries in Lincoln within the year. The mail thief (who was identified,
thanks to the hard work of the Lincoln Police) tried to cash a check from
our mail and also intercepted holiday gift cards (never to be found).
One police officer I spoke with said that everyone should be sure to lock
bikes (or garage them) and to also be vigilant locking vehicles, during the
day and at night.

Again, sorry for any unnecessary anxiety, but that was not my intention.

Best,
Margo Martin

[LincolnTalk] Stolen Bikes

2024-04-29 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
My husband just got an alert on his phone (from our security company), that
bikes are being stolen in Lincoln. There was no other information given.
Not sure if this is related to all of the kids biking this week to school,
but just wanted to let you know in case you want to garage or lock up your
bikes.
Best,

Leanne Wetherbee lives in Concord. (617)943-3310. She is punctual and

not available then, I also recommend Alan Giles. He is very nice and
reliable also.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Background and Thoughts: Town Meeting History

2023-12-23 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

I wonder if town meetings were optional, and people could vote by ballot,
how many people would ACTUALLY show up. Many, many things have changed in
the past since 1774, which make the town meeting process archaic. For
example, it wasn’t that long ago that the “stewards of the land” were
trying to restrict development - and now those “stewards” are promoting it.
Information can be shared in so many ways - prior to a vote. Today it would
be possible for people who could not attend an 8 hour meeting to still
obtain the information and debate prior. Obviously if only 800 people show
up for a town meeting and there are approximately 5000 possible voters,
something needs to be changed. Life has changed.
The current town meeting process is “exclusionary” - a term many people
here in Lincoln like to throw around recklessly. If people who are disabled
and serve our country in the military cannot vote at a town meeting, then
THAT is what I call exclusionary. It’s going to be 2024 in just over a
week, and thankfully, we’ve come a long way, since the Puritan days!

Respectfully,

Margo Fisher-Martin

The trails are very slippery from the leaves and rain. Hopefully it will

Re: [LincolnTalk] My Turn: With measured success, officials grapple with HCA vote at multi-board meeting

2023-12-07 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

Just some food for thought - according to a recent WGBH article, the trend
for the past 2 years is that people have been moving out of Massachusetts.
What will happen when every town on the commuter rail builds hundreds of
new units at every station at the same time? In our case, it will be 90%
high end market rate units. With a net outflow of people (more people
moving out of our state than in), who will be filling these thousands and
thousands of units?
Also, if we are to believe what we’ve been told, this will not happen
overnight - thus there will not be more housing now, and if this does get
built, is there really a luxury unit crisis in Lincoln that these new units
will remedy?

Respectfully,

Margo Martin

Re: [LincolnTalk] Fw: Your request for Reasonable Accommodation at Special Town Meeting Re: Voting on Saturday

2023-12-01 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

Those of you who think that all Lincoln residents with disabilities can
vote (as long as they are registered and can get a ride), should know that
some elderly and disabled people cannot stay at town meeting all day
because they cannot tolerate sitting or standing for hours waiting for the
opportunity to vote. There are MANY reasons why some disabled people are
unable to attend or stay at Town Meeting. Yes - we can offer rides
(although some may need chair vans which need to be pre-arranged and can be
costly) and we can offer assistance guiding people to a safe location,
however, there are still people who are unable to vote. If any of you have
ever suffered severe back or neck pain, you may understand this problem
better. Or perhaps one has a hearing loss and cannot understand what is
happening in the meeting. The ADA is a law that was enacted to provide
access to all with disabilities.
As a special educator/teacher of the deaf and hard-of-hearing, I am
well-acquainted with this law and surprised that the town legal counsel
would not offer alternative voting arrangements. There are situations in
which we need to do better than simply offering rides.
Thank you for looking into this Sarah.

Respectfully,
Margo Martin

Re: [LincolnTalk] Voting on Saturday

2023-12-01 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi Jane Marie,

I do not know the answer to your question unfortunately. It seems unfair
that many people are unable to vote tomorrow. I am curious as to how your
mom feels about the proposed additional units at the Commons. I am really
unsure of how to vote on this because I haven’t heard much feedback. From
the photos that I’ve seen, it does not appear that adding The new units
would be too impactful on the residents and neighbors nearby, but I really
don’t know that for sure, and I would love to hear more feedback from
people who live at the Commons or nearby.

Thank you.
Best regards,
Margo Martin

Re: [LincolnTalk] Lincoln Residents for Housing Alternatives and HCA Choices

2023-11-28 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

There is a ZOOM meeting tomorrow evening, of which everyone in Lincoln is
invited to attend. All should have received a mailer with details, as I
did.
I agree - this DOES seem rushed- ALL of it.
It would be best to not rush this process at all.
>From what I understand, we can submit more than one option to the state for
approval. Why wouldn’t we want to try to do that? And in the meantime,
perhaps we can become better educated -instead of making accusations and
assumptions about our neighbors.

Sincerely,

Re: [LincolnTalk] Lincoln and the Housing Choice Act: What Lies Ahead

2023-11-28 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

Yes. It came from Barbara Peskin who created the slide show with maps and
parcel lists and screencast which came directly from data on the town
website and LRAH website (lincolnhca.org, which by the way, is not a
private group - anyone can be added to this resident group.

I think it really helped me understand how important this December 2
decision is to all of us and the possible impact. Many people have good
intentions, however, the reality is that the adoption of either option C
and D will likely not result in significant affordable housing.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Mass. Investment in Communities that Build Around Commuter Rail Stations

2023-11-21 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
It’s not getting better even if we do comply.
I hate to say it, but it’s true.
And then if we do comply, we have a congested center with lousy service.
The system is corrupt. Just like the RMV.
Why should it get better just because there are new units there? The state
cannot manage funds. Hence the nickname Taxachusetts.
Sorry to be so negative, but the system is just going down the tubes. They
will have to address safety issues before they even look at service issues.

I think the whole segment is worth listening to, as she directly links

Re: [LincolnTalk] Radical change in Lincoln

2023-11-21 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

I think Andy’s idea is a good one. It’s not a democratic process now - when
NOT everyone can attend and therefore not everyone can vote. Is ballot
voting not democratic? Our antiquated town meeting process does not work
for many people- for many reasons.
For example, at last year’s meeting at this time, both my husband and I had
COVID, ( we were among many others who were sick) so we couldn’t attend,
and many people we know left BEFORE the vote, since they could not keep
their eyes open - after sitting through MANY hours of a dragged out
process. It got extremely late. People with young children had to leave
before the vote…. and so on.
As for the town officials, I DO appreciate the many hours they put in, and
I know it’s challenging, but they also control all of the meetings and
therefore pretty much have the “floor.” The suggested meeting process would
offer more people the opportunity to vote.

Sincerely,

Margo Fisher-Martin

Re: [LincolnTalk] Housing Choice Act and Exclusionary Zoning Report-the HAC will make us even more exclusive.

2023-11-10 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi All,

We know that a zoning change does not “dictate” that anything be built or
changed, but we also know that major changes WILL happen in Lincoln, should
this pass. Do any of you remember many years ago when zoning changes were
made that impacted any changes an owner could make (as much as a bay
window) without ZBA approval on pre-existing non-conforming lots? Some
people who are pushing for the re-zoning here are the same people that
tried to instill the fear of “mansionisation” should we allow any changes
to homes on less than 2 acre lots. At town meeting, they showed pictures of
dense mid-rise housing from other towns to scare people into taking away
the rights of the pre-existing (grandfathered) non-conforming lot owners.
Now some of these same people are advocating for providing similar dense
mid-rise housing that they were adamantly opposed to. What happened to the
“stewards of the land?”

Sincerely,

Margo Martin

A reminder: zoning affects what the property owner has a right to do with
their property. It does not dictate that anything be built or changed.

2023-10-29 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

Is there anyone out there who would like to sell or get rid of one of
these? My husband needs one for a project. It does have to work, but does
not have to be anything fancy.
Reply directly to me.

Thank you!

Maurice Richards was excellent. In August, he did three separate
roof-related repairs for us, including a new skylight - all in one day!
Impressive.

Sounds a little like the book Knuffle Bunny, which is about a missing

I hope the stuffy is found!

Re: [LincolnTalk] On yesterday's HCA meeting

2023-10-12 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

>From also being an attendee at that HCA meeting, the takeaway for me was
that we DO need to look at the process. I appreciate all of the hard work
of the committees and boards, but some thing is ineffective about the
process, because all of the resident input collected was only based on a
few hundred people total. This means that few people attended the SOTT
meeting. Many do not check the Lincoln website and are not on the Lincoln
Talk. I agree though- many of us need to step up and think and work
constructively together. I do not blame the board members and again I
appreciate the huge amount of work and time they’ve invested. I can
understand after all of their hard work why they would want to push option
C through, but I hope they/we can continue to creatively think of other
options. There is still time before the December meeting. Also, the state
is pushing this law to beef up ridership on the failing MBTA system- which
will not happen unless the MBTA steps up the services they provide.

Respectfully,

[LincolnTalk] LEAP and the New School Buildings and the HCA

2023-10-03 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

As a parent whose child attended LEAP many years ago, I know how valuable
the program is to many local families. I do not know the statistics on the
school size and usage and do not pretend to do so. I only know what I’ve
read in the LT threads. As a teacher/educator for 40+ years in 3 districts
(Needham, Newton and NYC), I can tell you that as faculty members across
disciplines and grades, we were often required to move, share classrooms,
and utilize space creatively in order to re-allocate space for new or
growing programs. We all dreaded moving and/or sometimes sharing
classrooms, but logistically it always worked out. If the student numbers
are as low as some people report, perhaps, as others have mentioned, it
would pay off to re-evaluate the building’s current use and space in order
to find a home for LEAP. I completely understand why LEAP needs to have its
own space, however, how much space is actually required? To reiterate what
many people have said, if taxes continue to increase in order to build a
community center and new building for LEAP, Lincoln will become
unaffordable for some homeowners, especially those on fixed incomes, people
who have lived here for many years. The town boasts trying to support
affordable housing, but many people cannot afford the taxes now, and many
more may not be able to withstand inevitable increases, should the “wish
list” projects be approved.

Additionally, just to comment on the Housing Choice presentation. I drove
through the center of town late afternoon the other day. Between traffic
back ups from the train and the 4 way intersections, it took me almost 20
minutes to get home. And I live quite close to the center. I can’t even
imagine what it would be like with so many additional cars and people
living in the “village.” Just because people may LIVE NEAR the train, does
not mean they will be able to utilize public transportation to get to work,
drive their children to activities, shop etc… And how would this traffic
impact our first responders?
If you haven’t done it recently, try driving through Wayland and Sudbury at
rush hour. These towns have grown substantially, however the road system
has not. On routes 20 and 117, cars barely move at rush hour (which seems
to start earlier and last longer).
I know that others have mentioned concerns about potential traffic, but it
really hit me when I could neither get home quickly, nor to a medical
appointment without leaving quite a lot of much needed extra time.
Although according to the presentation, the actual land being considered
for the developments is only .4 percent, the impact will be huge.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Fwd: Financial Questions re: Community Center

2023-09-29 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi Kathy,

That sounds like a great idea-especially since it sounds like not everyone
interested can fit in each session and with the risk of COVID being high
right now. Not to mention Saturday sports preventing many parents from
attending.
I hope the committees will consider the option of allowing people to view
the meetings taped and sending a QR codes - perhaps with a limited time to
watch and scan to prevent dragging out the process further.
Great suggestion!

Re: [LincolnTalk] Community Center- size considerations

2023-09-26 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
John,

This is about affordability and what makes sense. Everyone is entitled to
an opinion, but there should be no public shaming - ever- regardless of
one’s views.
This is not a tolerance or acceptance situation.
This is a small town and we cannot always afford everything we want.

Cookie Martin

Re: [LincolnTalk] Cell phone carriers?

2023-04-25 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

We have T-Mobile and it has been easy to get a human when needed. We’ve had
AT & T in the past, and I’d say overall the cell service is better in some
places, but T-Mobile is much less expensive and the free service in Mexico,
Hawaii, Alaska, and other places has meant huge savings for us. AT&T tacked
on a lot of extra charges and kept increasing prices, while the service
deteriorated. It was extremely hard to get support with AT&T. Lincoln has
poor service in spots due to the lack of cell towers and that is no
reflection on the cell companies.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Dog birthday

Hi

You could make a nice hamburger or ground chicken and rice cake using a
cake pan. Drain the burger of any fat. Bake it. Cool it. Cover it with
low-fat sugar free kiefer and write on it with cheese whiz!
Decorate with dog treats. Just an option! Might not be as pretty as bakery
options, but your dog will love it!

Re: [LincolnTalk] Rehab facility for broken pelvis

2022-09-12 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
New bridge is good, but also Encompass Health in Woburn (used to be NE
rehab) is really great. My dad was there a few years ago and it was the
best. He had been in several places. There are several places I’d avoid if
you want to email me directly.
I have also heard good things about Lasell, but have had no direct
experience there. Hebrew rehab in Boston has great therapists, but no
services on the weekends. (At least in the past).

Cookie

Re: [LincolnTalk] Natural gas price increase

2022-08-13 Thread Margo Fisher-Martin
Hi,

No one seems to mind bashing Trump or people with opinions that differ, on
the Lincoln Talk! That’s been going on for years on the this site. I agree
that there should be NO bashing on the Talk at all. Personally, I’d prefer
no political discussions at all. That said, I believe in equality, and
freedom of speech for ALL, regardless of whether it is the most popular
opinion or not. To me it’s disappointing that this bashing goes on
regularly, and that it is only “disappointing” when it is one particular
side.
Please be equal and fair. That’s what I’ve always believed democracy to
mean.
Either no bashing or “open season” for all! Be fair, even if you disagree.
