 Andy,
SO maybe the point should be to have MORE parent representation, more diverse
voices who might disagree with current policies and direction. From my
knowledge of those involved there are many who are aligned with the same
ideology of where the school sees itself moving towards in the future. When you
have a bunch of aligned views in the same room it is considered status quo, and
right now LPS status quo is not meeting the equity-equality ratio, how much
investment is resulting in our kids prepared to enter LSHS and excel especially
in Math and Science. I will again reiterate, an easy analysis is to look at who
at LPS is seeing results and it is the 8th grade class teachers, so what are
they doing differently, that costs ZERO dollars.
Lincoln School 2021 RankingsLincoln School is ranked #162 in Massachusetts
Elementary Schools and ranked #58 in Massachusetts Middle Schools. Schools are
ranked on their performance on state-required tests, graduation, and how well
they prepare their students for high school.

time, our new Superintendent should have the opportunity to lead this process
and have a say on the Search Committee members and the candidates selected.
Said Committee should make a real effort to get a strong contingent of Lincoln
parents and residents representing a broad spectrum of views. Our new
Superintendent might decide that the school would be better served by placing
an interim Principal and in my opinion that would be fine. We will be better

Three of the four candidates are already employed in other school systems

I think it's fair to assume that, as parents, we're all invested in our
children. But I also firmly believe we need a plurality of views, because
we all have valid, complementary, interests. I agree with what others have
said, it is misguided to think one single voice speaks for the whole
community.

During the superintendent screening committee discussion, Kim Mack
specifically commented on the need to have the representation of distinct
Boston, Hanscom and Lincoln residents/parents, which I wholeheartedly agree
with (1:19:15 in this video:
https://cloud.castus.tv/vod/lincoln/video/6363fc117ee83e0008fc1727?page=HOME).
We specifically also included a resident-at-large. Why would the principal
search be any different?

I would tend to agree with Peter’s interpretation.

The decision on which applicants to review and who will be a finalist is key.
The timeline seems to have been set to ensure the current leadership would set
the stage for this decision, be that good or bad.

I would not have used the term “bless the candidate,” but I would agree with
the sentiment.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Let's not rush choosing our new Middle School Principal

2023-02-03 Thread Andy Wang
All,

I wanted to call out a nuance in Peter's email regarding the inclusion of
the incoming superintendent in the process that I want to make sure people
are aware of.

In Becky's Dec 21 Letter From The Superintendent (
https://www.lincnet.org/Page/5798), she says this:

"I hope to create a process that *will allow the newly appointed
superintendent to participate in the finalist stage and make the final
decision to appoint a principal*. This means that the process will likely
be completed in late February or early March." (emphasis is mine). She
echoes those sentiments in the letter Peter linked as well.

The superintendent decision was planned for Feb 7, so this lines up with
that schedule.

Peter's interpretation was "Our incoming Superintendent will only have a
token opportunity to bless the candidate selected by the current
Administration team."

I'll leave as an exercise to the reader on the judgement on the accuracy of
Peter's interpretation of the process.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Let's not rush choosing our new Middle School Principal

2023-02-03 Thread Barbara Low
Reviewing the search committee list makes me view a delay in selecting a new
middle school principal even more important. Not only will the new
superintendent have no say when there is opportunity to build part of one's own
team, but the lack of resident parents and community representation is
insulting. When Sharon Hobbs was selected many years ago, there was at least
one community representative that was part of the search committee. I know that
for a fact since I was on that committee.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Let's not rush choosing our new Middle School Principal

2023-02-02 Thread Melissa J via Lincoln
I have to disagree with this. As a teacher, I find interim positions to be
disruptive and only to be used if there is a very good reason. Our outgoing
superintendent is an amazing superintendent and I have full trust in her and in
the committee to choose someone qualified to be the principal. I fully expect
that whoever we hire for both open positions will be able to work with each
other as their job entails.

2023-02-02 Thread Sara Mattes
Me 3.
Why potentially tie the hadn’t of the incoming Superintendent.
It might appear that we do not trust them to build a team that they have
confidence in.
And, it might condition the kind of candidate stepping up.

Let the new administration administer... as a true leader.

Count me in as well. People like to establish their own teams. When my children
went through the Lincoln school, there were interim middle school principals on

I believe we are about to make a big mistake. In our hurry to find a new
Principal for the Middle School, the School Committee has forgotten about the
importance of our new Superintendent getting the opportunity to build his/her
own team. As many of you know, our Middle School principal Sharon Hobbs is

run point on the search, selecting candidates and conducting interviews before
we have even had a chance to select our new Superintendent. The retiring
Superintendent will be assisted by a Committee that shockingly does not include
a single Lincoln parent or resident-at-large. Our incoming Superintendent will
only have a token opportunity to bless the candidate selected by the current
Administration team.

Given the immense importance of getting this candidate right and ensuring that
our new Superintendent is set for success, I strongly encourage the School
Committee to put this process on hold. Our new Superintendent should have an
opportunity to become acquainted with our school to properly determine the
specific skills required for the job before beginning this process. At a future
time, our new Superintendent should have the opportunity to lead this process
and have a say on the Search Committee members and the candidates selected.
Said Committee should make a real effort to get a strong contingent of Lincoln
parents and residents representing a broad spectrum of views. Our new
Superintendent might decide that the school would be better served by placing
an interim Principal and in my opinion that would be fine. We will be better
off waiting for the right person who can work together effectively with our new
Superintendent than rushing to make a subpar decision that impairs our school.

Re: [LincolnTalk] Let's not rush choosing our new Middle School Principal

2023-02-02 Thread Andy Wang
Peter,

Was that accurate to say 'by a Committee that shockingly does not include a
single Lincoln parent or resident-at-large'? Jessica Llaverias is listed
as a parent.

*Search Committee:*

Superintendent – Becky McFall

Assistant Superintendent – Jess Rose

Middle School Principal – Erich Ledebuhr

Lincoln School Principal – Sarah Collmer

Administrator for Student Services – Lisa Berard

Interim Student Services Coordinator/Special Educator – Keriann Gilman

Classroom Teacher – Julie Barkin

Classroom Teacher – Amanda Sykes

Classroom Teacher – Karen Sheppard

Administrative School Secretary – Maureen Belt

Parent – Jessica Llaverias

Also, I believe the staffing responsibility for principals falls on the
superintendent, not the school committee. (
https://www.lincnet.org/cms/lib/MA01001239/Centricity/domain/3/public_documents/process/SCSupRoles.pdf).
There is a clear separation of roles listed.
