embedded director movies

2003-02-21 Thread Mamão - Toolshed
Hello people, i've been trying for the last 3 years to use embbedded
movies the right way, no success..

The main problem I face is that the scripts I write in the embedded movie
that accesss its sprites, tend to mix
up everything and endup accessing the main movie.

example

if I put a script on the embedded movie:

on mouseenter me
   (sprite 10).blend = 50
end

lets suppose that this script is put on the (sprite 2) of the embedded
movie, when the mouse pointer passes
over that sprite, the (sprite 10) of the MAIN movie gets its blend level
changed, and not the (sprite 10) at the
embedded one?!?!?

what in the universe make it works like that?? Why not use the same _root
and _parent syntax as Flash?

and better, whats the syntax to change the blend level of a sprite on the
embedded movie?

You can use modelsUnderRay to make an object follow a non-regular terrain.

How can I make an object walk inside a house for instance??
I actually want to do exactly what the OCTREE COLISION xtra does. (has
anyone got that xtra to work outside noisecrime's demo??)

weird, it was availiable yesterday

anyone wants me to upload it?? ;)

Very good colapsible menus

I liked very much the user interface improvements - the screen usage
reduced a lot.

I tried the flash integration, seems to be very nice (not enought time to
test it all)

The object inspector is VERY good, the new debugger lets you see all the
variables in a categorized way, local, global and properties

The sad part is that there is NO update on the 3D engine, that in my
opinion, needs 'little' rework:
 - Zsorting on transparent polygons needs a fix (core engine rework)
 - antialiasing improvement
- progressive antialiasing is something that could be implemented,
like viewpoint (when you stop moving, it starts to antialias)
- switching antialiasing on/off can be slow sometimes, it takes a few
frames before it is turned off

QTVR FOV x (PAN & TILT)

2002-12-12 Thread Mamão - Toolshed
I developing a CD-ROM that has an image archive that will contain pictures
that can be zoomed
Thwy are very big (arround 2000x2000)pixels, so we choosed to implement it
using QTVR panorama
with Warpmode set to #none.

It works fine standalone.

The next step in development is showing a thumbnail of the image with the
zoom-square marked on it.
This is the part where I am facing problems - the relations beetween FOV
and MAX/MIN PAN makes no
sense, it seems that there is a non-linear relation beetween those.

The panorama has a 0.81 pixel aspect and its being displayed as a 4:3
aspect(1.333) sprite (this is one of the examples)

if I zoomout at maximun I get a (sprite n).fieldofview equals to something
arround 67!?!?!
why not 100 degrees that is the 'node sweep' of my QTVR movie??

ok then, but where this number comes from??

I need to make a relation beetween the s.FieldOfView property and the
percentage of the image that is displayed.
after that I need to get the max/min pan for each FOV value... sounds dificult

even if I get to do that, i will still need to do that for the TILT
property too

Am I in a mess?? ehhe

I wonder if should I move back to a big bitmap + mask - but that runs very
bad on older machines (K6-III-500Mhz wich is our standard bad-machine)

please, any help would be very appreciated (it is due dec 20th) and its
only one part of the CD.

HTTP includes no method to query the size of a file. Plus, some files will
return a content-length header, and some won't, so bytesTotal is unreliable
at best. Probably the best workaround is a little PHP script; something like
this:

Then do getNetText( "getsize.php?f=images/bigimage.jpg" ), etc. You could,
of course, extend this simple script to query the size of more than one file
in one go, which would be a good idea if you want to load several files
since the TCP/IP connection overhead will far outweigh the download time for
a tiny script like this.

This is a well known issue that did not get addressed this release (keep
reading).

> And what about new 3D properties (i bet yes).

There were no changes made to the 3D Asset Xtra and its rendering
capabilities (I think a few *minor* issues were fixed - the z-sorting
issue requires changes to the core rendering layer and that just didn't
happen). The 3D feature set is the same as it was in Director 8.5 with the
exception of being able to inspect 3D cast members from within Director's
UI now. There is a new window called the Object Inspector which allows you
to "look into" your 3D members. That's really more of a UI feature than it
is a 3D one though as it applies to many objects in Director, 3D being
only one of those.

I figure that's not the news you were looking for but that's the case this
release.

sad to listen that 8(

I am happy that the object inspector was created, i wonder if can I 'save'
the geometry dynamically created using lingo.

When a full feature-list will be released anyway?

Any notice about the Zsorting error?? did macromedia fixed that??

I made a demo almost an year ago that shows this 'bug'.
 - change the alpha of the shader on the slider that is on the right part
of the screen showing (100.000)
 - click on the object to see the result with other models

(i know now that it is a zSORTING error, and not a ZBUFFER error)

And what about new 3D properties (i bet yes). Avatar?? colision detection??
no specs about that out yet?

Re: PNG refpoint (again)

I still can't get to do that

lets supose that > is the beggining of the stage, and < is the end and
"|pic|" is the picture:

the picture looks like this in fireworks AND in authoring inside director

>--|pic|--<

as you can see, its a full frame PNG (800x600) that its actual 'effective
rect area' does not fill the
stage at all

the problem is that its being displayed in the projector as following:

>|pic|<

Now we can see that the projector center's the image's and forgets about
the real reference point
and creates a new one, in the center of the 'effective rect area'.

how do I make the PROJECTOR work just like director in authoring mode??

PS: this kind of 'unexpected behavior' under the projector runtime
sometimes kill us!

any other help would be appreciated, thanks
