In linuxnos.tip (which is in linux.zip, contained in config.zip,
contained in the doc***.zip archive), there are two versions of dojnos.
The first one uses dip, while the second one uses slattach.

I can't either as I use Eridani 6.1A here.

I believe the correct syntax is "scc+" rather than
"scc*". Certainly, that's what I'm using to refer to my PPP
ports.

I've been thinking about the above, and something along the lines
of the following script is probably what you are looking for.

William: Perhaps you can comment on this?

===8<=== CUT ===>8===

#!/bin/bash
#
# Script to configure an IP Masqueraded firewall for a
# system with amateur radio TCP/IP connections and also
# with a standard PPP dial-up interface.
#
# This script makes the following assumptions:
#
# 1. All traffic coming from the amateur radio ports
#arrives with IP addresses in the Class A range
#44.*.*.* (which corresponds to *.ampr.org in DNS
#terminology).
#
# 2. All traffic arriving from local network ports
#arrives with IP addresses in the Class B range
#192.168.*.* which is reserved for local networks
#
###
#
# First, set up the default policies. The DENY in the
# forward chain prevents any traffic from being
# forwarded at this stage.

ipchains -P forward DENY
ipchains -P input ACCEPT
ipchains -P output ACCEPT

###
#
# Next, kill all existing rules, and delete all existing
# non-standard chains.

ipchains -F
ipchains -X

###
#
# Next, ensure that kernel forwarding is enabled.

echo 1 > /proc/sys/net/ipv4/ip_forward

###
#
# Next, create the user chains we require to ensure that
# we deal with all network sources sensibly.

ipchains -N HamRadio
ipchains -N Internet
ipchains -N LocalNet

###
#
# Next, sort the incoming traffic according to where
# it is coming from, sending each range into a separate
# chain for further rule processing. The chains referred
# to here will ensure that traffic from the respective
# domains is authorised to travel where it wishes to
# when the chain returns.
#
# Add other ports as required.

ipchains -A input -i ppp+ -j Internet # PPP links
ipchains -A input -i eth+ -j LocalNet # Ethernet
ipchains -A input -i lo -j LocalNet # Loopback

###
#
# Next, specify what to do with traffic from the Ham Radio
# ports. This defines the HamRadio chain, and sets the
# following policies:
#
# 1. If this traffic arrives other than with a 44.* IP
# address, ignore it completely. Only 44.* addresses
# are legal over the amateur radio bands.

ipchains -A HamRadio -s ! 44.0/8 -j DENY

# 2. If this traffic is destined for the Internet, reject
# it, returning "Connection refused" to the caller.

ipchains -A HamRadio -d ! 192.168.0/16 -j REJECT

###
#
# Next, specify what to do with traffic from the Internet
# on the input chain. This defines the Internet chain, and
# sets the following policies:
#
# 1. If this traffic arrives claiming to be from a ham
# radio address, ignore it completely. These addresses
# are not valid from the Internet ports.

ipchains -A Internet -s 44.0/8 -j DENY

# 2. If this traffic arrives claiming to be from one of
# the localnet addresses, ignore it completely. Again,
# these addresses are not valid on the Internet ports.

ipchains -A Internet -s 10.0/8 -j DENY
ipchains -A Internet -s 172.16.0/16-j DENY
ipchains -A Internet -s 192.168.0/16 -j DENY

# 3. If this traffic is destined for a ham radio address,
# reject it, returning "Connection refused" to the
# caller.

# 4. If this traffic is aimed at one of our web servers
# or the web proxy, reject it, returning "Connection

if false ; then

Hello Mike, nice to meet you, well I know this script since it's comes from

Well the fun is that my old version (jnos 1.11d) did work ok also with the
"dojnos script".
Unluckily, after my new compilation of the linux kernel and new 1.11e
version,my dojnos
stop to works and I received an error message if I tried to launch it from
the previous icon.
I don't know which the reason could be...May be the DODIP it's no more
working.

The ipchains tool that you're almost certainly using supports the
"scc*" syntax to match scc0, scc1, etc. "man ipchains" for more details.

It's not as good as getting a unified firewall because the order
in which the rules show up is important.

I would certainly be interested, especially if the specification
in the first paragraph has been updated to replace "9600" with
either "38400" or a higher number.

Re: Reconnection problem

2000-03-19 Thread Riley Williams

Hi Robert.

 > My ISP kills my ISDN connection every 8 hours and so I have

My ISP disconnects after 60 minutes, and I'm set up to dial
straight back in. However, I'm not on an ISDN connection, so
YMMV.

 > Does someone know how reconnect automatically without just
 > setting dialing to "auto" and ensure that there is always a

I use wvdial to set up my connection, and it reconnects on
disconnect by default. You may wish to look into doing that.

 > How can I do something like an event-handler to force
 > reconnect exactly that second when it happens?

With wvdial you don't need to.

 > I also want to send my new dynamic IP immediately after
 > reconnect to dynhost.com. I've no idea where to insert the
 > execution of a script. I don't want to do lame cron jobs

That's the easy part if you're using pppd to run your link: Every
time pppd connects, it runs /etc/ppp/ip-up which performs certain
standard tasks, then runs /etc/ppp/ip-up.local with the same set
of parameters.

As a result, all you have to do is to create a script called
something like `updatedns` that takes as its only parameter the
current dynamic DNS to be updated with, and performs whatever is
required to update the server, then put the following line in
/etc/ppp/ip-up.local to run it:

/usr/local/sbin/updatedns $4

That assumes you dropped the updatedns script into the specified
directory.

That's a stupid typo on my part - it should have read "...with
mode 0755..." meaning that `chmod 0755 /usr/local/bin/xjnos`
should be applied to the script once it has been created.

I've found that a common lingoism on the Internet to describe a
file where the permissions matter is to say "...with mode XXX..."
where XXX is the numeric chmod specifier for the required
combination of permissions for that file.

Yes, through the proc interface. See /usr/src/linux/Documentation/proc.txt
section Network Neighbor handling. The parameter you want to adjust is
retrans_time.

The Motorola DSP56002EVM was discontinued some time ago. Newer models are
of course available but there is no direct replacement. There was a
discussion on this topic on the TAPR DSPSIG (or was it HFSIG?) so if
anyone is interested you can check the archives on TAPR home page.

2000-03-19 Thread Mike S.

I have a script file in sbin called dojnos. In my etc/rc.d/rc.local I have
dojnos on a line so it will start when linux boots up. Below is the script.
You'd have to replace my ip and call with yours. Hope it helps.

#! /bin/sh

# Script to invoke the Linux Jnos. Usage: dojnos [optional_args]
# User should edit definitions for jnosroot and autoexec, and edit the
# $local and $remote addresses and $mtu value in the DIP script below:

jnosroot=/jnos
autoexec=autoexec.nos

if [ $TERM = xterm ]; then
TERM=xterm-color # xterms is another possibility

tset 2> /dev/null
cd $jnosroot
rm spool/mqueue/*.lck 2>/dev/null

get $mtu 1500
mode slip
#proxyarp
exit

fi

rm /tmp/dip.$$
# It seems that the proxyarp DIP cmd is failing...so we do it ourselves.
# We want the Linux ip stack to respond to ARPs for the Jnos IP addr,
# for those packets received via eth0 (ethernet).
#arp -Ds n0yii.ampr.org eth0 pub

start script

2000-03-19 Thread Shane Deering

Hello group,
I'm running Red Hat Linux 6.1 with 2.2.12 kernel.
Can someone tell me where I can put the lines I type in to get ax25 working
Like kissattach etc to automate it when the computer boots?
I presume I can add the lines in the same format that I type them.
A seperate script (that I can attack) that can be called would be nice and
tidy if I can do it that way.

And will the SCC drivers work for a Paccomm PC-120?
If so, anyone got a script I can look at?

Keep in mind that I have no idea what I'm doing.
Go easy on me. I made my first linux packet connect tonight after
trying off and on for the last 12 months.

DSP boards.

2000-03-19 Thread Geoff Bagley

I had not realised that stand-alone DSP boards were getting scarce.

I have two Texas TMS320C50 kits (16 bit) and two Motorola DSP56002EVM
evaluation modules (24 bit). I have found that having two sorts can be
useful (to match other people).

They all have built-in A/D convertors. They come with varying amounts of
support software (e.g. assemblers, debuggers, C-compilers).
The supporting software may need the dreaded Windows.

I was still able to buy the Motorola EVM in July last year from a firm
called Future Electronics (UK FAX number ++44 1753 689 842). Delivery
time was up to ten weeks at that time.

There is also an Analog Devices SHARC EZ-LITE kit (36 bits) which has
been used by some German hams. (Availability unknown).

I think these inexpensive boards may be loss-leaders to get the student
community hooked. The fully supported product can cost more.
Also they may have got smarter, and moved up to floating point, for
example.

Hello Peter,

i had the same problem, but after some expiriments it worked for me.
Try to get hold off the 'linuxnet' software.
with that you are in the good direction.

you need to make a psuedo device, which linuxnet uses
after that start './linuxnet' and attach the device.
If all works you can automate things in 'AUTOEXEC.NET'

Ron !

Re: Reconnection problem

2000-03-19 Thread Randy Smith

Put your ppp daemon in /etc/inittab.
Here is what mine looks like:
pp:3:respawn:/usr/sbin/pppd

To handle your IP information, locate the ip-up script for pppd. On
redhat, it is under /etc/ppp/ip-up.local, you may have something
different. Call your dynip update script from this one.

This will not ensure some minimum amount of traffic before a redial, it
will keep you online 24x7 though :)

There is one prerequisite to this method. You must have all your ppp
stuff configured so that it will make a connection on it's own. Example:
you should be able to type: "pppd" on the command line and have the
connection come up. This means your ppp/options file should have all the
parms needed for your connection and it should call "chat" with the
proper information.

If you need more info, I will post my config files.

Randy

Mike,

If you find some let me know as well. The pool seems to be depleted
except for the used market on these evaluation models.

I collected most, if not all, of the web pages for the Super Vozeij a
couple of years ago. I could make a tarball of them and send if you wish.

I was going to build a system but two small children do rather slow
projects down.
